    Description

ABSTRACT This article presents the results of a study on the perception of quality of Latin American business journals based on the judgment of relevant experts - senior professors with knowledge of Latin American research and journals. Forty-five journals were included in the study. The highest perceived quality scores were given to Academia (CLADEA - Uniandes), RAE (Fundação Getulio Vargas), and Innovar (Universidad Nacional de Colombia). When perceived quality was weighted by awareness, Academia, LABR-Latin American Business Review (University of San Diego - Coppead), and Innovar had the highest scores. Results complement a recent study by Ruiz-Torres, Penkova, and Villafane (2012) that focused on management journals published in Spanish. Analysis of results suggests that language and branding have an effect on the perception of journal quality. Implications for editors/publishers, tenure, promotion, research grant committees, and authors are provided.

    Description

In order to analyse specific features of data papers, we established a representative sample of data journals, based on lists from the European FOSTER Plus project , the German wiki forschungsdaten.org hosted by the University of Konstanz and two French research organizations. The complete list consists of 82 data journals, i.e. journals which publish data papers. They represent less than 0,5% of academic and scholarly journals. For each of these 82 data journals, we gathered information about the discipline, the global business model, the publisher, peer reviewing etc. The analysis is partly based on data from ProQuest’s Ulrichsweb database, enriched and completed by information available on the journals’ home pages. One part of the data journals are presented as “pure” data journals stricto sensu , i.e. journals which publish exclusively or mainly data papers. We identified 28 journals of this category (34%). For each journal, we assessed through direct search on the journals’ homepages (information about the journal, author’s guidelines etc.) the use of identifiers and metadata, the mode of selection and the business model, and we assessed different parameters of the data papers themselves, such as length, structure, linking etc.The results of this analysis are compared with other research journals (“mixed” data journals) which publish data papers along with regular research articles, in order to identify possible differences between both journal categories, on the level of data papers as well as on the level of the regular research papers. Moreover, the results are discussed against concepts of knowledge organization.

    Journal Software Market Outlook

The global journal software market size is estimated to be valued at approximately $1.2 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach around $2.3 billion by 2032, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.2% during the forecast period. The growth of this market is fueled by an increasing demand for digital journaling tools among various user segments, driven by factors such as the rise in remote working and online learning, and an increased emphasis on mental health and productivity. As the world continues to embrace digital transformation, the journal software market is seeing significant growth opportunities across multiple sectors and regions.

One of the primary growth factors in the journal software market is the widespread adoption of digital tools in educational institutions. With the growing trend of e-learning and online education, academic institutions are increasingly integrating digital journal software into their curricula to enhance learning experiences and foster creativity among students. This shift is not only limited to higher education but is also being observed in primary and secondary education levels, where digital journaling is being utilized as a medium to encourage students to articulate their thoughts and improve their writing skills. As educational institutions continue to innovate in teaching methodologies, the demand for journal software is expected to rise significantly.

In the corporate sector, the need for efficient documentation and record-keeping is driving the adoption of journal software. Organizations are leveraging these tools for various purposes, including project management, knowledge sharing, and strategic planning. The ability to access and update information remotely is a critical requirement in the modern business environment, particularly with the increase in remote and hybrid working models. Journal software enables seamless collaboration and enhances productivity by providing a unified platform for employees to document workflows, track progress, and share insights. As businesses continue to prioritize digital solutions that optimize operations, the journal software market is poised for substantial growth.

Another factor contributing to the market expansion is the growing awareness of mental health and wellness. Personal journaling has gained popularity as an effective tool for self-reflection, stress management, and personal development. With the rise in mental health awareness campaigns and an increasing number of individuals seeking ways to improve their well-being, digital journaling platforms offer a convenient and accessible method to promote mindfulness and emotional health. This trend is particularly noticeable among millennials and Gen Z, who are more inclined to adopt digital solutions for lifestyle management, further fueling the growth of the journal software market.

Regionally, North America is expected to dominate the journal software market due to high technological adoption and the presence of key market players. However, the Asia Pacific region is anticipated to witness the highest growth rate during the forecast period, attributed to rapid digitalization, increasing internet penetration, and a burgeoning tech-savvy population. The regional outlook for the journal software market suggests that emerging economies will play a crucial role in the market's expansion, providing ample opportunities for vendors to penetrate new markets and cater to a diverse customer base.

In addition to these trends, the role of Reference Management Software is becoming increasingly significant in the journal software market. As researchers and academics strive to manage vast amounts of information efficiently, reference management tools are essential for organizing citations, managing bibliographies, and ensuring academic integrity. These tools integrate seamlessly with journal software, enhancing the research and writing process by providing users with the ability to easily cite sources and maintain accurate records of their references. The growing emphasis on research productivity and collaboration in academic and professional settings underscores the importance of reference management software, making it a vital component of the journal software ecosystem.

    Description

The main objective of this study was to analyse how the action-research has been conducted in organisational studies in Brazil. This study compiled information of 44 journals in Brazil and 22 congresses between 2000 and 2010. Among those 44 journals and 22 congresses only 21 papers and 4 event presentations have approached the subject. Objectives, procedures, effort of the outsiders and consequences of both cycles, action and academic were the topics analysed. The survey results indicate that, overall, the authors don’t distinguish properly the two intentions on the methodology, except few exceptions. It is speculated, then, about the use of action research in the field of study of administration in Brazil. It is concluded that the concept of action research is acknowledged and internalized by the authors, but reports of its application are still insufficient. Finally, it is argued that research and action in the area of Administration can and must walk together and propose some suggestions for research.

Global Scientific And Technical Publication Market Drivers

The market drivers for the Scientific And Technical Publication Market can be influenced by various factors. These may include:

Research and Development (R&D) Activities: The demand for scientific and technical publications is influenced by the amount of R&D activity conducted worldwide. Research production and publications increase in proportion to the level of expenditure made in R&D by governments, academic institutions, and private corporations.

Technological Developments: Innovation in scientific research is fueled by technological developments like artificial intelligence, data analytics, and high-performance computers. As a result, new areas of research are generated, and there is a greater need for publications that address these developing topics.

Research Globalisation: Cross-border collaboration between researchers and institutions has increased, which has increased the demand for scientific publications that may share research findings with a worldwide readership. Publications that are readable and pertinent to academics across the globe are in high demand due to the growth of international research collaborations.

Government Policies and financing: The market for scientific and technical publications is greatly impacted by government policies and financing for research. Modifications in research funds, funding priorities, and open access regulations may have an effect on the publication environment and scientific literature accessibility.

Open Access Initiatives: The landscape of scientific publication is changing as a result of the movement for open access publishing, which allows research articles to be openly accessed by the general public. The industry's publication processes and business models are changing as a result of funding agencies, academic institutions, and research centres implementing open access rules at an increasing rate.

Demand for multidisciplinary Research: Publications that address subjects at the nexus of several disciplines are becoming more and more necessary as research becomes increasingly multidisciplinary. Demand is expected to rise for journals and publishers who help disseminate the results of interdisciplinary research.

Demand for Real-Time Information: As science advances at an accelerated rate, there is an increasing need for up-to-date information on recent discoveries. This requirement for immediate knowledge dissemination is met by publishers who provide preprint platforms, fast peer review, and early internet publication.

Education and Training: Since educational institutions need resources for teaching and training, they also drive the need for scientific and technical publications. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and training programmes rely heavily on textbooks, reference materials, and internet resources.

    Peer Review Services Market Outlook

The global peer review services market size was valued at approximately $1.2 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach $2.5 billion by 2032, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 8.1% during the forecast period. This robust growth is driven by an increasing emphasis on the quality of research outputs and the rising volume of scientific publications across various disciplines.

A significant growth factor in the peer review services market is the burgeoning expansion of academic institutions and research organizations, particularly in emerging economies. These institutions are increasingly adopting peer review services to ensure the credibility and integrity of their research outputs. The growing pressure to publish in high-impact journals has accentuated the need for rigorous peer review processes, further fueling market growth. Additionally, the increasing complexity of research in various fields necessitates specialized peer review services, contributing to market expansion.

Technological advancements are another critical driver of the market. Innovations in digital tools and platforms have streamlined the peer review process, making it more efficient and transparent. Online platforms and software solutions have enabled easier collaboration among reviewers and authors, reducing the time required for the review process. These technological solutions also help maintain the anonymity of reviewers, fostering unbiased evaluations. Consequently, the adoption of digital peer review services is on the rise, propelling the market forward.

Furthermore, the adoption of open access publishing models has significantly impacted the peer review services market. Open access journals often require a rigorous and transparent peer review process to maintain credibility and attract high-quality submissions. As a result, there is an increasing demand for professional peer review services that can support the open access model. The shift towards open peer review, where the identities of authors and reviewers are disclosed, is also gaining traction, reflecting a broader trend towards transparency and accountability in the publishing industry.

In addition to the technological advancements, the role of Business Plan Review Service is becoming increasingly vital in the peer review services market. As organizations strive to align their research outputs with strategic business goals, there is a growing need for services that can assess and refine business plans in the context of scientific research. These services help ensure that research initiatives are not only scientifically sound but also commercially viable, thereby enhancing the overall impact and sustainability of research projects. The integration of business plan review services into the peer review process is particularly beneficial for research organizations and academic institutions looking to maximize the return on their research investments.

Regionally, North America and Europe dominate the peer review services market, owing to their well-established academic and research institutions. However, the Asia Pacific region is expected to exhibit the highest growth rate during the forecast period. Countries like China, India, and Japan are investing heavily in research and development activities, leading to a surge in scientific publications. This regional expansion is creating new opportunities for peer review service providers.

    Service Type Analysis

In the realm of peer review services, various service types cater to differing needs, including pre-submission peer review, post-publication peer review, open peer review, collaborative peer review, and others. Pre-submission peer review services are designed to assist authors in enhancing the quality of their manuscripts before submission to journals. These services are particularly valuable for researchers aiming to increase their chances of acceptance in high-impact journals. The growing pressure to publish in prestigious journals has led to a higher demand for pre-submission peer review services, contributing significantly to market growth.

Post-publication peer review is another crucial segment in the peer review services market. This service allows for the evaluation and critique of published papers, ensuring ongoing scrutiny and quality control. The rise of post-publication peer review platforms has democratized the review process, allowing a broader range

    Description

The research objective is how much influence the work environment and work culture together have on the work performance of employees at the Secretariat of the Human Resources Development Agency, Ministry of Home Affairs. The purpose of this study is to determine and examine the magnitude of the influence of the work environment and work culture jointly on employee performance at the Secretariat of the Human Resources Development Agency, Ministry of Home Affairs. The research method uses a survey with a quantitative approach that is correlational with the sampling technique used based on the sampling table developed by Isaac and Michael. In this study, the number of samples was 58 respondents. The variables studied were work environment (X1) and work culture (X2) as independent variables, while employee performance was the dependent variable (Y). Based on the results of the research that has been done, namely: 1) Based on the results of hypothesis testing the effect of work environment variables on employee performance at the Secretariat of the Human Resources Development Agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs, it has a strong and significant positive influence, this is indicated by the correlation coefficient value of 0.695 and the coefficient of determination of r2 = 0.483 or 48.3%, this means that 48.3% employee performance is determined by the work environment, the remaining 51.7% is determined by other factors. Furthermore, for the significance test, the t-count value is 7.233 and the t-table value is 2.000. This means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted because t-count (7.233) > t-table (2.000). 2) Based on the results of hypothesis testing the effect of work culture variables on employee performance at the Secretariat of the Human Resources Development Agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs, it has a strong and significant positive influence, this is indicated by the correlation coefficient value of 0.697 and the coefficient of determination of r2 = 0.486 or 48.6%, this means that 48.6% employee performance is determined by work culture, the remaining 51.4% is determined by other factors. Furthermore, for the significance test, the t-count value is 7.276 and the t-table value is 2.000. This means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted because t-count (7.276) > t-table (2.000). 3) To test the double correlation hypothesis of work environment and work culture variables together on employee performance at the Secretariat of the Human Resources Development Agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs, it turns out to have a strong and significant positive influence with a correlation coefficient of 0.739 and a coefficient of determination of r2 = 0.546, this means that together employee performance of 54.6% is determined by the work environment and work culture, the remaining 45.4% is determined by other factors. Furthermore, for the significance test, the F-count value was 33.133 and the F-table value was 3.17. This means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted because of F-count (33.133) > F-table (3.17).

    Description

There are two CSV datasets in this publication used initially in the master thesis in sociology of Xenia Leontyeva at HSE University Saint Petersburg, titled "Popularity Factors of Domestic Films: Gender Characteristics and State Support Measures" (2022), and lately for the article by Leontyeva, Xenia, Olessia Koltsova, and Deb Verhoeven, titled "Gender (Im)Balance in Russian Cinema: On the Screen and behind the Camera" (Accepted in January 2024 in The Journal of Cultural Analytics). The first dataset (N=1285) includes all Russian films produced between 2008 and 2019 and theatrically released between December 1, 2008, and December 31, 2019. Distribution statistics cover the territory of the CIS, of which the Russian Federation is the biggest market. Budget information is available for 644 films. The second dataset contains the Bechdel-Wallace test modified by Leontyeva markup for 243 films, 193 of which have budget information. There is also a supplement with a detailed description of all variables and R-code producing tables, plots, and models for the article. The database was collected by Xenia Leontyeva while working at Nevafilm Research (until 2018) and later. In terms of distribution data, it is based on sources such as the open base Russian Cinema Fund Analytics – RCFA (since 2015), the closed base comScore/Rentrak ("International Box Office Essential") serving major Hollywood studios (data from it has been used since 2008 to fill gaps in open databases), Bookers' Bulletin (since 2011), and Russian Film Business Today magazines (since 2004), as well as self-collected by Nevafilm Research employees from film distributors and producers; the rights to use and continue this dataset have been received from Nevafilm company. In terms of production data, the information was taken from the State register of film distribution certificates, Kinopoisk.ru, and from the films' credits.
