TwitterThis GIS dataset is a compilation of existing surficial map information for the Calgary-Lethbridge Corridor area tiled into one layer. It is suitable for presentation and use at 1:250 000 scale. The dataset was prepared by appending existing GIS datasets into one layer with a standard attribute table. These datasets were then compared against surficial maps for which GIS data were unavailable. Lastly, polygon boundaries were modified to agree with the surface topography as represented by a digital elevation model (DEM) with a grid cell size of 25 metres. Data sources included published Alberta Geological Survey and Geological Survey of Canada maps and the Agricultural Regions of Alberta Soil Inventory Database Version 4.0. Legend information for each polygon was translated by the author into the standard schema. This dataset contains the polygon features of Alberta Geological Survey Map 579, Surficial Geology of the Calgary-Lethbridge Corridor, and has been exported in shapefile format for public distribution.

TwitterThis is a GIS dataset containing digitized and attributed polygon features from scanned Alberta Geological Survey Maps 201, 202, 203 and 204. The data show the surficial geology of the Calgary urban area (NTS areas 82O/01, 82P/04, 82J/16 and 82I/13) and are attributed with stratigraphic unit, lithology, lithogenesis, morphology, veneer material and the unit labels as shown on the maps. The data from the four maps are presented in a single polygon layer.

TwitterThis map shows the proximity of public art installations from CTrain stations in Calgary, Alberta. The purpose of this map is to understand the accessibility of these art installations via Calgary's light rail transit system. It can also be used in navigating to locations of public art depending on the closest CTrain station. Train stations are divided up based on route and locations of public art are shown in white. The layer for public art locations was retrieved from The City of Calgary's open data portal, Open Calgary (https://data.calgary.ca/Recreation-and-Culture/Public-Art-Locations/643n-987f). It was converted from a .csv file with values for latitude and longitude into a .shp file. It was then clipped to the extent of the city boundary. The layer for CTrain stations was retrieved from The City of Calgary's open data portal, Open Calgary (https://data.calgary.ca/Transportation-Transit/Transit-LRT-Stations-Map/c6ee-wk9g).The layer for the city boundary was retrieved from Stats Canada as a boundary file for population centres (https://www12.statcan.gc.ca/census-recensement/2011/geo/bound-limit/bound-limit-2016-eng.cfm). The City of Calgary was exported from this as a separate .shp file. All data were projected in WGS 1984 Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere.

TwitterThis is a GIS dataset containing digitized and attributed polygon features from scanned Alberta Geological Survey Maps 201, 202, 203 and 204. The data show the supplemental surficial geology of the Calgary urban area (NTS areas 82O/01, 82P/04, 82J/16 and 82I/13). Polygons, representing a discontinuous layer, are attributed as sand and silt veneer or buried sand, as shown on the maps. The data from the four maps are presented in a single polygon layer.

TwitterThis GIS dataset depicts the structural bedrock top surface in the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor based on water-well litholog data, including bedrock outcrop locations. We sourced the well data from an internal Edmonton-Calgary Corridor geological mapping database. This surface provides a geological model for the region. These data comprise the raster surface of Alberta Geological Survey Map 549, Bedrock Topography of the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor, Alberta.

TwitterThis GIS dataset depicts the drift thickness in the Edmonton-Calgary corridor based on water-well litholog data and bedrock outcrop locations. We used well data from an internal Edmonton-Calgary corridor geological mapping database. This thickness map was generated to assist in building a geological model for the region. The sediment thickness was generated by subtracting the bedrock topography surface from the 60 m Shuttle Radar Topography Mission v. 2 digital elevation model.

The Northern Hail Project (NHP) aims to improve knowledge of damaging hail storms and the detection of hail occurrence across Canada. NHP will also endeavour to improve severe convective storm prediction, mitigate against harm to people and property, and investigate future implications due to climate change. This damage survey map displays contours representing hail damage data collected by the NHP Field Team. Contours are classified by damage type and range from threshold, minor, moderate, and severe damage. Residential data created and distributed by The City of Calgary are also displayed to represent the number of residential properties impacted by the hailstorm. NHP will have an open data side and more data available in the coming year, such as hail swath locations across Canada.Follow us on Twitter @westernuNHP--------------------------------------------------On August 5, 2024 a powerful storm affected the north end of Calgary, AB, leaving a very large swath of severe hail damage to many urban and rural areas. The field teams collected data while this storm was occurring, including the deployment of 5 disdrometers from IBHS. The entire field team participated in the forensic damage survey of the urban damage area across north of Calgary. This survey is the first time that a hail damage survey has been completed to so much detail in Canada.

TwitterA sanitary service pipe, also known as a sanitary service line, is the way wastewater leaves each home in Calgary. The sanitary service pipe can be thought of as two sections: (1) From the sanitary main to the property line: This part of the pipe is owned and maintained by The City of Calgary. (2) From the property line to your house: This part of the pipe is owned and maintained by the homeowner. The data shown here only relates to the portion of the sanitary service pipe on public property, owned and operated by The City. The material on private property can be a different material, and could have been installed at a different time. This dataset does not include large commercial and multi-family service lines. The data shown on this map is subject to change due to parcel re-development or The City repair/maintenance activities. If you believe there is an error or an omission regarding to the pipe material provided on this map, please contact 311.
