City of Cambridge, MA, GIS basemap development project encompasses the land area of City of Cambridge with a 200-foot fringe surrounding the area and Charles River shoreline towards Boston. The basemap data was developed at 1" = 40' mapping scale using digital photogrammetric techniques. Planimetric features; both man-made and natural features like vegetation, rivers have been depicted. These features are important to all GIS/mapping applications and publication. A set of data layers such as Buildings, Roads, Rivers, Utility structures, 1 ft interval contours are developed and represented in the geodatabase. The features are labeled and coded in order to represent specific feature class for thematic representation and topology between the features is maintained for an accurate representation at the 1:40 mapping scale for both publication and analysis. The basemap data has been developed using procedures designed to produce data to the National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy (NSSDA) and is intended for use at 1" = 40 ' mapping scale. Where applicable, the vertical datum is NAVD1988.Explore all our data on the Cambridge GIS Data Dictionary.Attributes NameType DetailsDescription TYPE type: Stringwidth: 50precision: 0 Type of sports facility

This polygon layer contains all of the property parcels in Cambridge. Each parcel has a unique Map and Lot ID number that links it to a record in the Assessing Department's Vision database system. Created for internal use by the Assessing Department to provide a visual reference associated with each parcel in the CAMA database. Created for interdepartmental and external use as part of the web viewers on the City's website. Also created for addressing/geocoding needs, although the Buildings and Master Address List are currently more accurate than Parcels. NOTE: The Parcels GIS data layer is NOT used by Assessing to calculate land area or taxes. Assessors refer to actual deeds or plans accepted by the Massachusetts Land Court. The figures stored in the GIS data layer are for general reference purposes only.

This layer contains five polygons representing the city's Neighborhood Conservation Districts (NCDs). Conservation districts are groups of buildings and their surroundings that are architecturally and historically distinctive. Exterior changes to buildings within NCDs are subject to review by NCD commissions made up of residents appointed by the City Manager. The GIS data layer was created in 2000 from paper documents. Cambridge designated its first NCD in 1984, following City Council legislation the year before allowing NCD establishment.Explore all our data on the Cambridge GIS Data Dictionary.Attributes NameType DetailsDescription NAME type: Stringwidth: 50precision: 0 Name of neighborhood conservation district

These data are a digital representation of information depicted on the printed map of the Cambridge Gulf 1:250 000 Geological Series produced by AGSO and the Geological Survey of Western Australia (GSWA) in 1971. Data present include geological polygons (litho-stratigraphic units), linear structural features (faults, dykes, folds, trends, lineaments etc), and point features (mines, structural points etc). Polygons have a range of attributes extracted from each individual map including unit name, age and lithological description, while lines and points are feature coded according to the AGSO publication 'Symbols Used On Geological Maps' (BMR 1989). A standard look-up table of AGSO geological codes and associated descriptions is available (see ADDITIONAL METADATA). The data has gradually evolved from elementary CAD quality data into its present topologically structured GIS format, and hence has many imperfections and inconsistencies. Data has undergone rigorous validation and testing that includes over 80 different tests. See ADDITIONAL METADATA for more information on the data standards used.
