This record contains Grizzly Bear population estimates for British Columbia for multiple years: 2012, 2015 and 2018. The 2015 & 2018 population estimates in the comma separated value (.csv) tables are provided in two units: 1. Grizzly Bear Population Unit (GBPU) and 2. GBPU sub-unit. The sub-units are composed of Grizzly Bear Population Unit (GBPU), Wildlife Management Unit (WMU), Limited Entry Hunting (LEH) and National Park boundaries, taken at the time of this data's creation. Note that that these boundaries are not coincident. Slight adjustments have been made to some polygons where needed to align the original linework to create the GBPU sub-units. Therefore, do not dissolve the GBPU sub-units to replicate the source data. Bear density is given in number of bears per 1,000 square kilometers, based on the net polygon area. The net polygon area excludes ice and water features from the Baseline Thematic Mapping dataset (https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/134fdc69-7b0c-4c50-b77c-e8f2553a1d40). Ice and water features can be identified by using this selection criteria: PRESENT_LAND_USE_LABEL IN ('Fresh Water', 'Salt Water', 'Glaciers and Snow'). The country has one of the lowest population densities in the world, as the total population is very small in relation to the dimensions of the land. Canada has a relatively stable population size, consistently with a growth of around one percent compared to the previous year. A small population in a large territory In terms of total area, Canada is the second largest country in the world. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Pacific to the Atlantic and northward to the Arctic Ocean, and this in total covers about 9.9 million square miles. The most densely populated area of Canada is what’s known as the Quebec City-Windsor Corridor in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario. The Low-income measure, after tax, refers to a fixed percentage (50%) of median-adjusted after-tax income of private households. The household after-tax income is adjusted by an equivalence scale to take economies of scale into account. This adjustment for different household sizes reflects the fact that a household's needs increase, but at a decreasing rate, as the number of members increases.

Using data from the 2016 Census of Population, the line applicable to a household is defined as half the Canadian median of the adjusted household after-tax income multiplied by the square root of household size. The median is determined based on all persons in private households where low-income concepts are applicable. From an economic standpoint, Canada has been slowly recovering from the 2008 financial crisis. Unemployment has gradually decreased, after reaching a decade high in 2009. Additionally, GDP has dramatically increased since 2009 and is expected to continue to increase for the next several years.

Canada’s appeal as an immigration destination has been increasing over the past two decades, with a total of 464,265 people immigrating to the country in 2024. This figure is an increase from 2000-2001, when approximately 252,527 immigrants came to Canada. Immigration to the Great White North Between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023, there were an estimated 199,297 immigrants to Ontario, making it the most popular immigration destination out of any province. While the number of immigrants has been increasing over the years, in 2024 over half of surveyed Canadians believed that there were too many immigrants in the country. However, in 2017, the Canadian government announced its aim to significantly increase the number of permanent residents to Canada in order to combat an aging workforce and the decline of working-age adults. Profiles of immigrants to Canada The gender of immigrants to Canada in 2023 was just about an even split, with 234,279 male immigrants and 234,538 female immigrants. In addition, most foreign-born individuals in Canada came from India, followed by China and the Philippines. The United States was the fifth most common origin country for foreign-born residents in Canada.

The Canadian Rocky Mountain Population (RMP) Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator) survey has been completed every 5 years since 1975. It has been used to monitor Trumpeter Swan population and distribution throughout the range of the Canadian RMP, which covers portions of Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, and Northwest Territories. Up to and including the 2005 survey, a census survey method was used to count Trumpeter Swans on their breeding grounds in late summer. The 2010 and 2015 surveys used a stratified random sampling approach, conducting aerial surveys of selected 1:50K map sheets in late summer. Surveys were conducted by the Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS), the Government of Alberta (AEP), and the US Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS). The included shapefile is a summary of the last three surveys where adult Trumpeter Swan totals are summarized by 1:50K map sheets. Where the same map sheet was surveyed more than once during the three surveys, only results from the most recent survey are presented. Regional survey reports are presented for 2005. Continental survey reports are presented for 2010 and 2015. Due to the large population expansion, Canadian RMP Trumpeter Swans are no longer a conservation concern. As a result, this costly single species survey has been discontinued.
