This dataset lists the number of well known school shootings by state. Some states have had more incidents than others. School shooting is a term popularized in American and Canadian media to describe gun violence at educational institutions, especially the mass murder or spree killing of people connected with an institution. A school shooting can be perpetrated by one or more students, expelled students, alumni, faculty members, or outsiders. Unlike acts of revenge against specific people, school shootings usually involve multiple intended or actual victims, often randomly targeted. This dataset displays the locations of the top public high schools in the USA in 2005 according to Newsweek. The location of the high schools were determined by finding the lat/lon of the city and state of the high school. Public schools are ranked according to a ratio devised by Jay Mathews: the number of Advanced Placement, Intl. Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2004 divided by the number of graduating seniors. All of the schools on the list have an index of at least 1.000; they are in the top 5 percent of public schools measured this way. If you have 2004 data showing that your school should be on this list, please contact Mathews at challenge@washpost.com. Note: Subs. Lunch % is the percentage of students receiving federally subsidized meals. E and E % stands for equity and excellence percentage: the portion of all graduating seniors at a school that had at least one passing grade on one AP or IB test.
This dataset provides information about 2007 Endowment figures across Colleges and Universities in the World (mainly in the United States). The Study was conducted by NACUBO. Results are also listed for 2006 and percentage change has also been listed between the two years. Locations are mapped by the lat/lon coordinates of the institution. More information on the study can be found at http://www.nacubo.org/ The National Endowment Study is the largest and longest running annual survey studying the endowment holdings of higher education institutions and their foundations. Information is collected and calculated on behalf of NACUBO by TIAA-CREF. Seven hundred and eighty-five (785) institutions in the United States and Canada participated in the 2007 NES, which is the largest number in the 35-year history of the study and the seventh consecutive year of record-breaking participation since NACUBO began its partnership with TIAA-CREF in 2000. NACUBO, (National Association of College and University Business Officers) founded in 1962, is a nonprofit professional organization representing chief administrative and financial officers at more than 2,100 colleges and universities across the country. NACUBOs mission is to promote sound management and financial practices at colleges and universities. Wildfires have consumed much of the western USA in the past couple days. Red Flag warnings are currently up in SW Colorado, Southern Utah, Northern Nevada, and in parts of Oregon and Washington. This dataset shows current conditions of these fires from the past 12 hours in United States. These fire information products were compiled at the USDA Forest Service (USFS) Remote Sensing Applications Center in cooperation with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, the University of Maryland, the National Interagency Fire Center, and the USFS Missoula Fire Sciences Lab. A joint venture involving the National Atlas programs in Canada (Natural Resources Canada), Mexico (Instituto Nacional de Estadstica Geografa e Informtica), and the United States (U.S. Geological Survey), as well as the North American Commission for Environmental Co-operation, has led to the release (June 2004) of several new products: an updated paper map of North America, and its associated geospatial data sets and their metadata. These data sets are available online from each of the partner countries both for visualization and download. The North American Atlas data are standardized geospatial data sets at 1:10,000,000 scale. A variety of basic data layers (e.g. roads, railroads, populated places, political boundaries, hydrography, bathymetry, sea ice and glaciers) have been integrated so that their relative positions are correct. This collection of data sets forms a base with which other North American thematic data may be integrated. Any data outside of Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America included in the North American Atlas data sets is strictly to complete the context of the data. The North American Atlas - Railroads data set shows the railroads of North America at 1:10,000,000 scale. The railroads selected for this data set are either rail links between major centres of population or major resource railways. There is no classification of rail lines. This data set was produced using digital files supplied by Natural Resources Canada, Instituto Nacional de Estadstica Geografa e Informtica, and the U.S. Geological Survey.
This dataset explores the national school breakfast program - the total number of breakfasts served by state for fiscal years 2003-2007.
This dataset was found online at the Association of Religious Data Archives (ARDA) website. http://www.thearda.com/ . This data set shows information on religous groups throughout the United States. All data was uploaded as a polypoint centroids per county in the United States, in shapefile format. This Data set shows the Total congregations, Total Adherents, and Rate of Adherence per 1000 population for All religions in the United States and for the Mainline Religions.
The database provides location and attribute information for use in national and regional network analysis applications. Supplemental_Information: At the time of publishing the CD significant updates to the layer were underway. Please check http://gis.fra.dot.gov for the latest version of the dataset. The National Rail Network: 1:2,000,000 (line) contains 1 polyline feature (FRAID 8298) that is defined by more than 500 shape points. This feature will not import correctly into the workstation version of ArcInfo, which has a 500 shapepoint limit. When importing into the workstation version of ArcInfo, this feature will be automatically split into 2 features. As part of this process, attributes are simply duplicated on the split features. Because of this, an additonal node is added. The additional node will have incomplete attribution.
