The Population of Canada, 10km Gridded national scale datasets display the distribution and areal extent of rural, urban and total populations across Canada for both 2011 and 2016. The 10km gridded framework is the same 10km gridded framework used within the Biomass Inventory Mapping and Analysis Tool. This data was created for AAFC by Statistics Canada using AAFC’s 10km gridded framework. The purpose of this data is to display the distribution of rural and urban populations across a 10km x 10km grid of Canada.

    Key information about Canada population

    • The Canada population reached 41.7 million people in Jun 2025, compared with the previously reported figure of 41.3 million people in Jun 2024
    • The data reached an all-time high of 369.3 million people in Feb 1992 and a record low of -7.6 million people in May 2016

*This indicator will be no longer available from March 2026, 4th onwards. CEIC has a plan to remove the non-standard frequency indicator after the standard frequency indicator has been added and be available on this table. CEIC extends history for annual Population. Statistics Canada provides Mid-year Population. Postcensal estimates, which are based on the latest Census counts adjusted for Census Net Undercoverage (CNU), including adjustment for Incompletely Enumerated Indian Reserves (IEIR) and the components of demographic growth that occurred since that census. Intercensal estimates are produced using counts from two consecutive censuses adjusted for CNU (including (IEIR) and postcensal estimates) Population prior to 1971 is sourced from the U.S. Census Bureau. Population is in annual frequency, ending in June of each year.

The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age groups. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages. About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the Canadian population distribution across 18 age groups. It lists the population in each age group along with the percentage population relative of the total population for Canadian. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of Canadian by age. For example, using this dataset, we can identify the largest age group in Canadian.

    Key observations

The largest age group in Canadian, TX was for the group of age 15 to 19 years years with a population of 277 (11.97%), according to the ACS 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. At the same time, the smallest age group in Canadian, TX was the 80 to 84 years years with a population of 35 (1.51%). Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the Canadian population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Canadian across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of Canadian was 2,210, a 1.07% decrease year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Canadian population was 2,234, a decline of 3.04% compared to a population of 2,304 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Canadian decreased by 13. In this period, the peak population was 3,038 in the year 2015. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

    Variables measured
Asian Population, Black Population, White Population, Some other race Population, Two or more races Population, American Indian and Alaska Native Population, Asian Population as Percent of Total Population, Black Population as Percent of Total Population, White Population as Percent of Total Population, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander Population, and 4 more
    Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2018-2022 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the racial categories idetified by the US Census Bureau. It is ensured that the population estimates used in this dataset pertain exclusively to the identified racial categories, and do not rely on any ethnicity classification. For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.
