    Description

The public use microdata file (PUMF) from the Canadian Internet Use Survey (CIUS) provides data on the adoption and use of digital technologies and the online behaviors of individuals 15 years of age and older living in the ten provinces of Canada. The survey is built off the previous iteration of the CIUS, last conducted in 2012. While there is some comparability with the 2012 CIUS, the 2018 survey was redesigned in 2018 to reflect the rapid pace at which Internet technology has evolved since the previous survey iteration. The files include information on how individuals use the Internet, smartphones, and social networking websites and apps, including their intensity of use, demand for certain online activities, and interactions through these technologies. It also provides information on the use of online government services, digital skills, online work, and security, privacy and trust as it relates to the Internet.

    Description

The Canadian Survey on Early Learning and Child Care (CSELCC) was conducted by Statistics Canada in 2023 with the cooperation and support of Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). The CSELCC gathers information from parents and guardians on early learning and child care arrangements for children aged 0 to 5. The survey asks parents and guardians about the arrangements they use for their child, including the associated costs, the difficulties they may have faced when looking for care, and what their preferences for child care are. This survey also collects information on parents' and guardian's labour market participation to better understand the interaction between work and the use of early learning and child care arrangements.

    Abstract

Objectives: The main objective of the survey is to provide information about Canadian adults whose daily activities are limited because of a long-term condition or health-related problem. This information will be used to plan and evaluate services, programs and policies for adults with disabilities to help enable their full participation in Canadian society. Information from the CSD will be used by all levels of government, as well as associations for persons with disabilities and researchers working in the field of disability. Data may be used to plan and evaluate policies and programs for Canadian adults with disabilities to help enable their full participation in society. In particular, information on adults with disabilities is essential for the effective development and operation of the Employment Equity Program. Data on disability are also used to fulfil Canada's international agreement relating to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

    Description

Income data has been used extensively by researchers to better understand the economic well-being of Canadians. To meet the needs of these users, Statistics Canada has produced numerous cross-sectional public use microdata files (PUMFs). PUMFs for the Survey of Consumer Finance (SCF) were released until reference year 1997. With the end of the SCF, PUMFs for the Survey of Labour and Income Dynamics (SLID) were produced for reference years 1996 to 2011. The Canadian Income Survey (CIS) was introduced for the 2012 reference year. The CIS is a cross-sectional survey developed to provide information on the income and income sources of Canadians, with their individual and household characteristics. It is a short questionnaire which is asked of a sub-sample of respondents to the Labour Force Survey (LFS), gathering information on labour market activity, school attendance, support payments, child care expenses, inter-household transfers, personal income, food security and characteristics and costs of housing. The CIS content is supplemented with information from the LFS on individual and household characteristics (e.g. age, educational attainment, main job characteristics, and family type) and with tax data for income and income sources (Statistics Canada, 2021). The CIS PUMF is an anonymized microdata file that contains only a subset of variables that are available on the CIS master file. Various techniques have been employed to protect CIS respondents against the risk of disclosure.

    Description

This public use microdata file (PUMF) provides researchers access to data on the distribution of SARS-CoV-2 lineages detected in the Canadian provinces between May and September 2022. Samples were collected as part of the Canadian COVID-19 Antibody and Health Survey (CCAHS), Cycle 2. The PUMF consists of a subset of participants of the CCAHS who submitted a positive PCR saliva sample over the course of the collection of the survey. The PUMF contains select demographic information including sex at birth, age group, province and the week of collection. The file also contains SARS-CoV-2 whole genome sequences and its associated data. The source survey for this PUMF, the CCAHS, Cycle 2, collected information in two parts. The first part is an electronic questionnaire about general health and exposure to COVID-19. The second part is two self-administered sample collections; an at-home finger-prick sample collection called a dried blood spot (DBS) sample, which was used to measure the presence of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, from vaccination or prior infection. The second at-home collection was a saliva sample which was used to determine if there was a recent or current SARS-CoV-2 infection at the time of sampling, by testing for viral material in the sample using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Participants were asked to complete both sample collections as soon as possible after the questionnaire. The data can be used to: Estimate how many Canadians test positive for antibodies against COVID-19. By using each participant's DBS samples combined with their survey responses, we can determine how many Canadians have antibodies against COVID-19 due to infection, vaccination or both. Provide a platform to explore emerging public health issues; Assist in the development of programs and services to respond to the needs of the current pandemic. Identify the estimated prevalence of infection on any given day during May to August 2022 in Canada.
