Number of households by type, year and municipality in the Brussels-Capital Region (Statbel)
These statistics relate to households formed by the resident population, as recorded in the National Register of Natural Persons (RNPP) for the year in question.
Definitions
Households: A household is defined as persons who usually share the same accommodation and live together. A household is therefore made up of either one person who usually lives alone, or two or more persons who may or may not be related. The concept of the reference person is crucial for these statistics, as it is necessary to locate all members of the household according to their relationship to this person. The person designated as the reference person is, in theory, the person who manages and/or takes care of all household matters. In reality, it is the person who represents the household in administrative matters. In most cases, this is an adult male.
Place of residence: the municipality of the main residence is available in TI001. The address of the main residence (postcode, street code, house number and box ) is available in TI020. The RNPP defines the main residence as follows: the place where the members of a household composed of several persons, whether related or not, usually live, or the place where a single person usually lives.
Private households: All households that are not collective households are private households.
Collective households: Determining whether a dwelling is collective is an exclusively regional responsibility. This information is included in TI141 of the National Register of Natural Persons. Examples of collective households: religious communities, nursing homes, orphanages, student or worker accommodation, hospitals and prisons.
