This project aims to explore and analyze Morocco’s 2024 Census Data, focusing on demographic and socioeconomic indicators at the municipality level. I used structured data from the Haut-Commissariat au Plan (HCP) of Morocco, obtained from their official source:

📂 Dataset Overview

I have two datasets representing 1,539 municipalities across Morocco 🇲🇦.

1️⃣ Municipal Population (mun_pop sheet)

This dataset provides the total population and its breakdown by gender and age groups.

2️⃣ Marital Status & Fertility (marital_status sheet)

This dataset focuses on marital status proportions and fertility indicators.

📌 Why Focus on Ages 15 and Above?

In Morocco, the average age at first marriage is 25.5 years for women and 32 years for men. However, to capture the full spectrum of marital statuses, including those who married at younger ages, demographic analyses often consider individuals aged 15 and over. This approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of marital patterns across all adults.

Morocco's urban landscape is continuously evolving, with the country's urbanization rate projected to reach 66 percent by 2024. This shift reflects a growing trend of Moroccans moving from rural areas to cities, transforming the nation's demographic makeup and presenting both opportunities and challenges for urban development and infrastructure. Population growth and urban centers As urbanization increases, Morocco's largest city, Casablanca, is expected to house approximately 3.22 million residents in 2024. This coastal metropolis serves as a prime example of the country's urban expansion. While the overall population growth rate has slowed to 1.02 percent annually, the total population is estimated to have reached 37.4 million by 2024. This combination of urbanization and population growth is reshaping Morocco's cityscapes and demanding innovative urban planning solutions. Demographic shifts and life expectancy The urbanization trend in Morocco coincides with other demographic changes. The fertility rate has decreased to 2.2 children per woman, indicating a shift in family structures and potentially influencing urban housing demands. Simultaneously, life expectancy has risen to 75.3 years, a remarkable increase of over three decades since 1960. These factors contribute to a changing urban population composition, with implications for healthcare, education, and social services in Morocco's growing cities.

In 2020, the region of Casablanca-Settat had over *** million households, the highest number in Morocco. The region of Rabat - Salé - Kénitra followed, counting approximately *** million households. As of the same year, the total number of households in Morocco amounted to around *** million.

In 2022, inhabitants in Morocco were more concentrated in urban than rural areas. Nearly 63 percent of the total population lived in the country's urban regions. Furthermore, Casablanca-Settat was the most populated region in Morocco.

Dataset Description

The COVID-19 pandemic in Morocco is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus was confirmed to have spread to Morocco on 2 March 2020, when the first case COVID-19 case was confirmed in Casablanca. This dataset provides the latest available public data on COVID-19 in Morocco including a daily situation update starting. Users should note that, in addition to capturing new cases and deaths reported on any given day, updates are made retrospectively to correct counts on previous days as needed based on subsequent information received. The data is available from 02 Mar, 2020.
