It is expected that U.S. consumer sales of cannabidiol (CBD) will reach around 1.8 billion U.S. dollars by 2022, which would represent a significant increase from around half a billion U.S. dollars in 2018. Following a similar trajectory, sales of legal cannabis in the U.S. are projected to hit 23 billion U.S. dollars in 2025.
What are the benefits of CBD? Cannabidiol is a naturally occurring substance found in cannabis. However, CBD does not cause any of the psychoactive effects that come from another active ingredient found in the plant: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The health benefits of the plant extract continue to be examined, and the World Health Organization states that CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential. The CBD retail industry is already flourishing, with a wide range of products marketed as treatments for chronic pain, anxiety, and depression.
CBD in the USA: sales by state With estimated sales of around 730 million U.S. dollars, California had the biggest CBD market in the United States in 2019. Regulations concerning the use of cannabidiols are yet to be clearly defined, and state authorities are having to answer numerous questions about its legality. It is, however, currently illegal under U.S. law to market CBD by adding it to a food or labeling it as a dietary supplement. As of March 2020, the FDA has approved only one CBD product: Epidiolex. The prescription drug is used to treat two rare and severe forms of epilepsy.
Sales of CBD products in the United States stood at **** billion U.S. dollars in 2022. By 2026, this market is expected to grow to **** billion dollars in value.
In 2018, the estimated CBD (cannabidiol) usage rate among the adult population in the United States was * percent. This figure was estimated to increase to ** percent by 2024.

This project contains a city-level panel dataset of deaths-by-cause from the U.S. Census Bureau for the years 1915 to 1938, annually, as reported in the publication “Mortality Statistics.” For some cities, the data is available separately for white and non-white deaths. This data is based on transcripts of death certificates received by the Census Bureau from certain areas of the country called “registration areas.” In 1918, the data covers an estimated population of 82,091,523, or 77.8% total estimated population of the United States, and includes 30 states, the District of Columbia, and 27 cities in nonregistration states. States and cities are added over time, so the panel is not complete. When data is reported based on white and non-white deaths, the majority (95%+) are Blacks (1918, page 11).
California was the leading market for CBD (cannabidiol) in the United States in 2019 with estimated sales of *** million U.S. dollars. Rounding out the top three were Florida and New York with about *** million and *** million in sales respectively.
Cannabidiol
Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a substance that can be found in marijuana or hemp, which is a specific strain of the Cannabis sativa plant. Given CBD’s relaxing qualities, it is used to create various products, which are sold in many types of stores across the United States. Some of 2019’s best-selling CBD products sold in U.S. convenience stores included CBD vitamins and sleeping remedies.
CBD products for pets
CBD products come in various forms, such as supplements, beauty products, food, and drinks. While it is not the most common use for the substance, in some instances, CBD comes in the form of pet products. In 2019, the most common types of CBD pet products in the United States were treats and chewies. Approximately ** percent of pet owners in the country had bought such CBD products for their pet(s) that year.
The purpose of this data package is to offer demographic data for U.S. cities. The data sources are multiple, the most important one being the U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey. In this case, the data was organized by the Big Cities Health Coalition (BCHC). Others are the New York City Department of City Planning and Department of Parks and Recreation, data being available through the NYC Open Data.

This project contains a city-level panel dataset of city revenue, expenses, and debt between the years 1924 and 1938, annually, derived from state archival records and the U.S. Census Bureau. All variables have been aggregated to the smallest comparable category – that is, if one state only reports “total taxes” while another splits taxes into different types, total taxes from the first and the sum from the second are reported here. Please get in touch with the principal investigator if you would like the disaggregated data (especially for Massachusetts and New York). Sample sizes vary from 519 to 819 cities per year.
By 2024, California is expected to be the largest CBD market in the United States with sales reaching over 3.3 billion U.S. dollars. Florida and New York would round out the top three with sales of 1.8 billion and 1.5 billion respectively.

The Bureau of the Census has released Census 2000 Summary File 1 (SF1) 100-Percent data. The file includes the following population items: sex, age, race, Hispanic or Latino origin, household relationship, and household and family characteristics. Housing items include occupancy status and tenure (whether the unit is owner or renter occupied). SF1 does not include information on incomes, poverty status, overcrowded housing or age of housing. These topics will be covered in Summary File 3. Data are available for states, counties, county subdivisions, places, census tracts, block groups, and, where applicable, American Indian and Alaskan Native Areas and Hawaiian Home Lands. The SF1 data are available on the Bureau's web site and may be retrieved from American FactFinder as tables, lists, or maps. Users may also download a set of compressed ASCII files for each state via the Bureau's FTP server. There are over 8000 data items available for each geographic area. The full listing of these data items is available here as a downloadable compressed data base file named TABLES.ZIP. The uncompressed is in FoxPro data base file (dbf) format and may be imported to ACCESS, EXCEL, and other software formats. While all of this information is useful, the Office of Community Planning and Development has downloaded selected information for all states and areas and is making this information available on the CPD web pages. The tables and data items selected are those items used in the CDBG and HOME allocation formulas plus topics most pertinent to the Comprehensive Housing Affordability Strategy (CHAS), the Consolidated Plan, and similar overall economic and community development plans. The information is contained in five compressed (zipped) dbf tables for each state. When uncompressed the tables are ready for use with FoxPro and they can be imported into ACCESS, EXCEL, and other spreadsheet, GIS and database software. The data are at the block group summary level. The first two characters of the file name are the state abbreviation. The next two letters are BG for block group. Each record is labeled with the code and name of the city and county in which it is located so that the data can be summarized to higher-level geography. The last part of the file name describes the contents . The GEO file contains standard Census Bureau geographic identifiers for each block group, such as the metropolitan area code and congressional district code. The only data included in this table is total population and total housing units. POP1 and POP2 contain selected population variables and selected housing items are in the HU file. The MA05 table data is only for use by State CDBG grantees for the reporting of the racial composition of beneficiaries of Area Benefit activities. The complete package for a state consists of the dictionary file named TABLES, and the five data files for the state. The logical record number (LOGRECNO) links the records across tables.
