    Description

The 2021 long form Census questionnaire was sent out to 25% of all households. The 2021 short form Census questionnaire was sent out to 100% of all households. Because one is a census and one is a sample survey, variables that are available in both the 100% data and 25% sample may have different values. For example, the total population of the city taken from the 25% sample could differ from that taken from the 100% data.Source: Statistics Canada, 2021 Census, Custom Tabulation, census profile data for user-specified ward areas. Description

The American Community Survey (ACS) is a uswide survey designed to provide communities a fresh look at how they are changing. The ACS replaced the decennial census long form in 2010 and thereafter by collecting long form type information throughout the decade rather than only once every 10 years. Questionnaires are mailed to a sample of addresses to obtain information about households -- that is, about each person and the housing unit itself. The American Community Survey produces demographic, social, housing and economic estimates in the form of 1 and 5-year estimates based on population thresholds. The strength of the ACS is in estimating population and housing characteristics. The data profiles provide key estimates for each of the topic areas covered by the ACS for the us, all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, every congressional district, every metropolitan area, and all counties and places with populations of 65,000 or more. Although the ACS produces population, demographic and housing unit estimates,it is the Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program that produces and disseminates the official estimates of the population for the us, states, counties, cities and towns, and estimates of housing units for states and counties. For 2010 and other decennial census years, the Decennial Census provides the official counts of population and housing units.

    Description

This documentation has been created by ICPSR for the restricted version of Census 1980 distributed by the Bureau of the Census. The restricted data is based on questions from the long form questionnaire, and was collected from one in six households in the United States. Topics covered include income, ancestry, citizenship status, home values, commute time to work, occupation, education, veteran status, language ability, migration, place of birth, and many others. The documentation available here provides files summaries, variable information, and facilitates sorting of the data by race or by a wide variety of geographical units. ICPSR is not distributing the restricted data, only the documentation for the restricted data. Users who wish to access the restricted data can find more information at the Michigan Census Research Data Center Web site. Users should also note that the data for the public versions of Census 1980 are available from ICPSR.

    Abstract

IPUMS-International is an effort to inventory, preserve, harmonize, and disseminate census microdata from around the world. The project has collected the world's largest archive of publicly available census samples. The data are coded and documented consistently across countries and over time to facillitate comparative research. IPUMS-International makes these data available to qualified researchers free of charge through a web dissemination system.

The IPUMS project is a collaboration of the Minnesota Population Center, National Statistical Offices, and international data archives. Major funding is provided by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the Demographic and Behavioral Sciences Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Additional support is provided by the University of Minnesota Office of the Vice President for Research, the Minnesota Population Center, and Sun Microsystems.

    Research instrument

The 2000 census used a long form questionnaire. Long Form Sampling Entities (LFSEs) were used to determine sampling rates. If the smallest LFSE that included all or any part of a block had an estimated housing unit count of less than 800, the housing units in the block were sampled at a 1-in-2 rate. If it had an estimated housing unit count of 800 or more but less than 1,200, units were sampled at a 1-in-4 rate. If a block was not in either of the two previous categories, and was part of an interim census tract with 2,000 or more estimated housing units, units were sampled at a 1-in-8 rate. Housing units in all remaining blocks were sampled at a 1-in-6 rate. When all sampling rates were taken into account across the nation, approximately 1 out of every 6 housing units was included in the Census 2000 sample.

    Description

The American Community Survey (ACS) is a US-wide survey designed to provide communities a fresh look at how they are changing. Although the ACS produces population, demographic and housing unit estimates, it is the Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program that produces and disseminates the official estimates of the population for the us, states, counties, cities and towns, and estimates of housing units for states and counties. For 2010 and other decennial census years, the Decennial Census provides the official counts of population and housing units.

    Description

UNI-CEN Standardized Census Data Tables contain Census data that have been reformatted into a common table format with standardized variable names and codes. The data are provided in two tabular formats for different use cases. "Long" tables are suitable for use in statistical environments, while "wide" tables are commonly used in GIS environments. The long tables are provided in Stata Binary (dta) format, which is readable by all statistics software. The wide tables are provided in comma-separated values (csv) and dBase 3 (dbf) formats with codebooks. The wide tables are easily joined to the UNI-CEN Digital Boundary Files. For the csv files, a .csvt file is provided to ensure that column data formats are correctly formatted when importing into QGIS. A schema.ini file does the same when importing into ArcGIS environments. As the DBF file format supports a maximum of 250 columns, tables with a larger number of variables are divided into multiple DBF files. For more information about file sources, the methods used to create them, and how to use them, consult the documentation at https://borealisdata.ca/dataverse/unicen_docs. For more information about the project, visit https://observatory.uwo.ca/unicen.
