The Census Tree is the largest-ever database of record links among the historical U.S. censuses, with over 700 million links for people living in the United States between 1850 and 1940. These links allow researchers to construct a longitudinal dataset that is highly representative of the population, and that includes women, Black Americans, and other under-represented populations at unprecedented rates. The Bureau of the Census has released Census 2000 Summary File 1 (SF1) 100-Percent data. The file includes the following population items: sex, age, race, Hispanic or Latino origin, household relationship, and household and family characteristics. Housing items include occupancy status and tenure (whether the unit is owner or renter occupied). SF1 does not include information on incomes, poverty status, overcrowded housing or age of housing. These topics will be covered in Summary File 3. Data are available for states, counties, county subdivisions, places, census tracts, block groups, and, where applicable, American Indian and Alaskan Native Areas and Hawaiian Home Lands. The SF1 data are available on the Bureau's web site and may be retrieved from American FactFinder as tables, lists, or maps. Users may also download a set of compressed ASCII files for each state via the Bureau's FTP server. There are over 8000 data items available for each geographic area. The full listing of these data items is available here as a downloadable compressed data base file named TABLES.ZIP. The uncompressed is in FoxPro data base file (dbf) format and may be imported to ACCESS, EXCEL, and other software formats. While all of this information is useful, the Office of Community Planning and Development has downloaded selected information for all states and areas and is making this information available on the CPD web pages. The tables and data items selected are those items used in the CDBG and HOME allocation formulas plus topics most pertinent to the Comprehensive Housing Affordability Strategy (CHAS), the Consolidated Plan, and similar overall economic and community development plans. The information is contained in five compressed (zipped) dbf tables for each state. When uncompressed the tables are ready for use with FoxPro and they can be imported into ACCESS, EXCEL, and other spreadsheet, GIS and database software. The data are at the block group summary level. The first two characters of the file name are the state abbreviation. The next two letters are BG for block group. Each record is labeled with the code and name of the city and county in which it is located so that the data can be summarized to higher-level geography. The last part of the file name describes the contents . The GEO file contains standard Census Bureau geographic identifiers for each block group, such as the metropolitan area code and congressional district code. The only data included in this table is total population and total housing units. POP1 and POP2 contain selected population variables and selected housing items are in the HU file. The MA05 table data is only for use by State CDBG grantees for the reporting of the racial composition of beneficiaries of Area Benefit activities. The complete package for a state consists of the dictionary file named TABLES, and the five data files for the state. The logical record number (LOGRECNO) links the records across tables.
The Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) Complete Count Data include more than 650 million individual-level and 7.5 million household-level records. The microdata are the result of collaboration between IPUMS and the nation’s two largest genealogical organizations—Ancestry.com and FamilySearch—and provides the largest and richest source of individual level and household data.

The historic US 1930 census data was collected in April 1930. Enumerators collected data traveling to households and counting the residents who regularly slept at the household. Individuals lacking permanent housing were counted as residents of the place where they were when the data was collected. Household members absent on the day of data collected were either listed to the household with the help of other household members or were scheduled for the last census subdivision.

We provide IPUMS household and person data separately so that it is convenient to explore the descriptive statistics on each level. In order to obtain a full dataset, merge the household and person on the variables SERIAL and SERIALP. In order to create a longitudinal dataset, merge datasets on the variable HISTID.
Households with more than 60 people in the original data were broken up for processing purposes. Every person in the large households are considered to be in their own household. The original large households can be identified using the variable SPLIT, reconstructed using the variable SPLITHID, and the original count is found in the variable SPLITNUM.
Coded variables derived from string variables are still in progress. These variables include: occupation and industry.
Missing observations have been allocated and some inconsistencies have been edited for the following variables: SPEAKENG, YRIMMIG, CITIZEN, AGEMARR, AGE, BPL, MBPL, FBPL, LIT, SCHOOL, OWNERSHP, FARM, EMPSTAT, OCC1950, IND1950, MTONGUE, MARST, RACE, SEX, RELATE, CLASSWKR. The 1940 census records were released by the US National Archives April 2, 2012, and brought online through a partnership with Archives.com. This website allows you full access to the 1940 census images, in addition to 1940 census maps and descriptions.
The 1950 Census population schedules were created by the Bureau of the Census in an attempt to enumerate every person living in the United States on April 1, 1950, although some persons were missed. The 1950 census population schedules were digitized by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and released publicly on April 1, 2022. The 1950 Census enumeration district maps contain maps of counties, cities, and other minor civil divisions that show enumeration districts, census tracts, and related boundaries and numbers used for each census. The coverage is nation wide and includes territorial areas. The 1950 Census enumeration district descriptions contain written descriptions of census districts, subdivisions, and enumeration districts.

Data tables on the social and economic conditions in Pre-Confederation Canada from the first census in 1665 to Confederation in 1867. This dataset is one of three that cover the history of the censuses in Quebec. These tables cover the Province of Quebec for the years 1765-1790. The tables were transcribed from the fourth volume of the 1871 Census of Canada: Reprint of the Censuses of Canada, 1665-1871, available online from Statistics Canada, Canadiana, Government of Canada Publications, and the Internet Archive. Note on terminology: Due to the nature of some of the data sources, terminology may include language that is problematic and/or offensive to researchers. Certain vocabulary used to refer to racial, ethnic, religious and cultural groups is specific to the time period when the data were collected. When exploring or using these data do so in the context of historical thinking concepts – analyzing not only the content but asking questions of who shaped the content and why.

The 2021 Census: Safeguarded Individual Microdata Sample at Grouped Local Authority Level dataset consists of a random sample of 5% of person records from the 2021 Census. It includes records for 3,021,611 persons. These data cover England and Wales only. The lowest level of geography is grouped local authority. This means groups of local authorities or single local authorities where the population reaches at least 120,000 persons. The dataset contains 87 variables and a low level of detail.

Microdata are small samples of individual records from a single census from which identifying information have been removed. They contain a range of individual and household characteristics and can be used to carry out analysis not possible from standard census outputs, such as:
The microdata samples are designed to protect the confidentiality of individuals and households. This is done by applying access controls and removing information that might directly identify a person, such as names, addresses and date of birth. Record swapping is applied to the census data used to create the microdata samples. This is a statistical disclosure control (SDC) method, which makes very small changes to the data to prevent the identification of individuals. The microdata samples use further SDC methods, such as collapsing variables and restricting detail. The samples also include records that have been edited to prevent inconsistent data and contain imputed persons, households, and data values. To protect confidentiality, imputation flags are not included in any 2021 Census microdata sample.

U.S. Census Bureau 2020 block groups within the City of Seattle with American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year series data of frequently requested topics. Data is pulled from block group tables for the most recent ACS vintage. Seattle neighborhood geography of Council Districts, Comprehensive Plan Growth Areas are also included based on block group assignment.The census block groups have been assigned to a neighborhood based on the distribution of the total population from the 2020 decennial census for the component census blocks. The Integrated Census Microdata (I-CeM), England and Wales, 1921 study contains the standardised England and Wales data for 1921.
The Integrated Census Microdata (I-CeM) project has produced a standardised, integrated dataset of most of the censuses of Great Britain for the period 1851 to 1911: England and Wales for 1851-1861, 1881-1921 and Scotland for 1851-1901, and 1921 making available to academic researchers, detailed information at parish level about everyone resident in Great Britain collected at most of the decennial censuses between 1851-1921.

Data available online through the Arkansas Spatial Data Infrastructure (ASDI) at http://gis.arkansas.gov. The subject file represents Census Blocks 2000 for the State of Arkansas. It is a registered trademark of the Bureau of the Census and an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the Census TIGER database. The geographic coverage for a single TIGER/Line file is a county or statistical equivalent entity, based on January 1, 2000 legal boundaries. A complete set of files includes all counties and statistically equivalent entities in the United States and Puerto Rico. Files for the Island Areas are not included. The Census TIGER database represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts. However, each county-based TIGER/Line file is designed to stand alone as an independent data set or the files can be combined to cover the whole Nation. The files consist of line segments representing physical features and governmental and statistical boundaries. They do NOT contain the ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) and the address ranges are of approximately the same vintage as those appearing in the 1999 TIGER/Line files. Census of the Eastern population since the 18th century, this list specifies: * Census year * The total number of inhabitants recorded in the municipality The census records of the Eastern population existed from 1936 to 1975 and are kept by the Archives. They have all been digitised, but only the 1936 census is available online, the population censuses from 1946 to 1975 can be consulted in the reading room. Consult the 1936 Census Before the French Revolution, the population was evaluated by fire (i.e. by house) or parish; it was a simple population count. In 1800, Lucien Bonaparte, Minister of the Interior, organised the foundations of the modern census with the establishment of the first general enumeration of the population. Systematic nominative lists by municipality were put in place in 1836. These censuses are then held every 5 years (years in 1 and 6) but are disturbed in times of war: thus the 1871 was established in 1872 and those of 1916 and 1941 were not realised. In the second half of the 20th century, periodicity is no longer as regular, censuses in the form of nominative lists took place in 1946, 1954, 1962, 1968 and 1975. From the 1954 census, nominative lists became optional. In 1982, the nominative list was deleted at the request of the National Commission for Informatics and Freedoms (CNIL), the censuses were then compiled in the form of statistical tables.
