This data show the number of temporary US Census Bureau employees hired in each state to assist with the 2020 Census.Every ten year, the U.S. Constitution requires that the country’s population be counted. For 2020, the undertaking includes hiring as many as 500,000 temporary workers to conduct door-to-door field operations.The number of workers hired during peak Census Bureau operations is so large that it affects statistics about the nation's employment. Census employment data is important because it allows economists to remove the hires from economic indicator releases to better judge payroll trends and broader economic performance.Current Employment Statistics (CES) for the nation, states and metro areas are published each month by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The statistics are based on a survey of businesses and government agencies.As a supplement to this release BLS will publish 2020 Census and CES Employment by State, providing month-to-month state-level tallies of Census hiring.

The Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program (also known as ES-202) collects employment and wage data from employers covered by New York State's Unemployment Insurance (UI) Law. This program is a cooperative program with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. QCEW data encompass approximately 97 percent of New York's nonfarm employment, providing a virtual census of employees and their wages as well as the most complete universe of employment and wage data, by industry, at the State, regional and county levels. "Covered" employment refers broadly to both private-sector employees as well as state, county, and municipal government employees insured under the New York State Unemployment Insurance (UI) Act. Federal employees are insured under separate laws, but are considered covered for the purposes of the program. Employee categories not covered by UI include some agricultural workers, railroad workers, private household workers, student workers, the self-employed, and unpaid family workers. QCEW data are similar to monthly Current Employment Statistics (CES) data in that they reflect jobs by place of work; therefore, if a person holds two jobs, he or she is counted twice. However, since the QCEW program, by definition, only measures employment covered by unemployment insurance laws, its totals will not be the same as CES employment totals due to the employee categories excluded by UI.

The Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program publishes a quarterly count of employment and wages reported by employers covering more than 95 percent of U.S. jobs, available at the county, MSA, state and national levels by industry. The dataset, hosted as part of the Cloud Public Datasets Program , gives county-level information on jobs and wages each quarter starting in 1990. The counties are identified by geoid which can easily be joined with both all FIPS codes or US county boundaries to unlock new insights within the data. Both of these datasets are available in BigQuery through the Cloud Public Datasets Cleaning and onboarding support for this dataset is provided by CARTO . Data on distribution of employment income by place of work status for census metropolitan areas, tracted census agglomerations and census tracts.

The Census Bureau has created a special subset file from the 1980 Census of Population and Housing data designed to meet the needs of Equal Employment Opportunity and affirmative action planning. It contains detailed 1980 Census data dealing with occupation and educational attainment for the civilian labor force, various race groups, and the Hispanic population. The collection contains two tabulations of the United States civilian labor force: one offering detailed occupation data and the other, data on years of school completed. The occupation tabulation includes information for 514 occupation categories organized by sex and race (including Hispanic origin). The second tabulation, years of school completed, is organized by age, sex, and race (including Hispanic origin). This collection contains 51 separate files, one for each state and the District of Columbia. Each state file contains statistics for the state, each county, standard metropolitan statistical area (SMSA), and place with a population of 50,000 or more within that state. If an SMSA crosses state lines, each state file containing a part of the SMSA will have totals for the entire SMSA. The 51 files in the collection include a total of 48,168 data records. Each of the data records contains 1,098 "substantive" variables, as well as geographic identifiers. A CENSPAC-compatible database dictionary, Part 90, is also included with this collection.

As a part of DVRPC's long-range planning activities, the Commission is required to maintain forecasts with at least a 20-year horizon. DVRPC has updated forecasts through the horizon year of the 2050 Long-Range Plan. The 2050 Version 2.0 Population and Employment Forecasts (2050 Version 2.0, v2.0) were adopted by the DVRPC Board on October 24, 2024, They update the 2050 v1.0 forecasts with a new county-level age-cohort model and new base data from the 2020 Decennial Census, 2020 Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), and 2021 National Establishments Time Series (NETS). The age-cohort model calculates the future population for five-year age-sex cohorts using the 2020 Census base population and anticipated birth, death, and migration rates. These anticipated rates were developed using historic birth and death records from New Jersey and Pennsylvania state health department data, as well as historic net migration data, calculated from decennial census data. Employment forecasts were developed by multiplying population forecasts by a ratio of working age population to jobs, calculated from 2022 ACS and BEA data.

The municipal and TAZ forecasts use the growth factors from the v1.0 forecasts, scaled to the new county and regional population totals from the age-cohort model. While the forecast is not adopted at the transportation analysis zone (TAZ) level, it is allocated to these zones for use in DVRPC's travel demand model, and conforms to municipal/district level adopted totals. This data provides TAZ-level population and employment. Other travel model attributes are available upon request.

DVRPC has prepared regional- and county-level population and employment forecasts in five-year increments for years 2020-2050. 2019 land use model results are also available. A forthcoming Analytical Data Report will document the forecasting process and methodologies.

Labour force status refers to whether a person was employed, unemployed or not in the labour force during the reference period. Not in the labour force refers to persons who were neither employed nor unemployed during the reference period. This includes persons who, during the reference period were either unable to work or unavailable for work. It also includes persons who were without work and who had neither actively looked for work in the past four weeks nor had a job to start within four weeks of the reference period.

Employment status refers to the employment status of a person during the period of Sunday, May 2 to Saturday, May 8, 2021. An employed person is one who did any work at all at a job or business, that is, paid work in the context of an employer-employee relationship, or self-employment. This category excludes persons not at work because they were on layoff or between casual jobs, and those who did not then have a job (even if they had a job to start at a future date). While an unemployed person is one who was without paid work or without self-employment work and was available for work. An unemployed person either: had actively looked for paid work in the past four weeks; was on temporary lay-off and expected to return to his or her job; or had definite arrangements to start a new job in four weeks or less.

Labour force participation rate refers to the total labour force in that group, expressed as a percentage of the total population in that group.

Industry refers to the general nature of the business carried out in the establishment where the person worked. The industry data are produced according to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).

Occupation refers to the kind of work performed in a job, a job being all the tasks carried out by a particular worker to complete their duties. An occupation is a set of jobs that are sufficiently similar in work performed. The occupation data are produced according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021.

This is a one-time load of Statistics Canada federal census data from 2021 applied to the Communities, Wards, and City geographical boundaries current as of 2022 (so they will likely not match the current year's boundaries). This data collection contains the October 1987 employment and payroll figures for federal, state, and local governments in the United States. Data for full- and part-time employment and payrolls are provided for functions such as air transportation, education, corrections, police, fire protection, utilities, health, public welfare, parks, libraries, sanitation, highways, and transit. Additional data cover labor-management relations, employee organizations, employee benefits, and unemployment, health, and life insurance. This collection consists of three data files. "DS1: Individual Government Records" provides an individual record for each of the following governments in the United States: the federal government, 50 state governments, 3,042 county governments, 19,227 municipal governments, 16,685 township governments, 29,270 special district governments, and 14,710 independent school district governments. In addition, there are 635 records for regional Education Service Districts (ESDs) classified officially as dependent agencies of independent school districts. "DS2: County Area Records" contains summary data records for county geographic areas. The county area summaries supply aggregated data for all of the local governments within the geographic boundaries of each county or county-type area. "DS3: National and State Summary Records" provides national and state area summaries by level and type of government. For each state area, the following summary records are provided: state and local government total, state government total, local government total, county government total, municipal government total, special district government total, and school district government total. The national summaries include each of the record types provided for state areas plus a single record for the federal government.
