This data set provides historical monthly marketable natural gas production by province from the beginning of 2000 to the most current available month for each province. Data is gathered from provincial government websites and marketable natural gas is calculated. https://www.cer-rec.gc.ca/en/data-analysis/energy-commodities/natural-gas/statistics/marketable-natural-gas-production-in-canada.html.
Canadian Marketable Natural Gas Production, The Energy Market Assessment, Short-term Canadian Natural Gas Deliverability 2016-2018, provides an estimate of the amount of marketable natural gas by gas grouping and by province from the beginning of 2016 to the end of 2018. The outlook presents three distinct cases, a Higher Price Case, Mid-Range Price Case, and a Lower Price Case, each of which are based on a set of assumptions, which are described in detail at: https://www.cer-rec.gc.ca/en/index.html. The dataset also provides monthly historical production by Western Canada gas grouping from the beginning of 1998 to the end of 2015. Annual drilling days and number of wells drilled by gas grouping and well depth are included, as are initial production rates and decline parameters by well vintage by grouping for the period 2000-2018.

Canada has abundant resources of crude oil, with an estimated remaining ultimate potential of 52.3 106m³ (329 billion barrels) as of December 2017. Of this, oil sands account for 92 per cent. There are two major producing areas in Canada, the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, which includes Alberta, Saskatchewan and parts of British Columbia and Manitoba, and offshore eastern Canada. Oil is also produced in modest volumes in Ontario and the Northwest Territories. Although Canada was the 4th largest producer in the world in 2018, it produces only about five per cent of total daily production, so it does not have a major influence on the world oil prices. In 2018, 96 per cent of Canadian crude exports went to the U.S. The Canada Energy Regulator regulates the export of crude oil. Holders of export authorizations report monthly statistics on export activities. This dataset provides historical export volumes of crude oil (by year and month), and by either type of oil or by destination of export.

CER Reports on Compliance and Enforcement When companies do not meet requirements, the CER has the authority to take action to bring the company back into compliance, so they are operating safely. The CER’s response depends on the issue and the situation, and it enforces requirements in a manner that is fair predictable, consistent, timely, and transparent. The CER has several enforcement tools available. Explore the reports on the work we do to check that companies are meeting requirements and the work we are doing to enforce those requirements. The CER’s Reports on Compliance and Enforcement include: • Compliance Verification Activity Reports – these reports are produced from the CER’s field inspections and emergency response exercises that we do with companies. • Warning Letters – these letters are issued to companies if a non-compliance has not been addressed or as a reminder of what may happen if a non-compliance reoccurs. • Inspection Officer Orders – an Order is a tool we may use to ensure a company takes prompt action. • Commission Order or Direction – if we’re having trouble bringing a company into compliance with other tools, we may issue an order or direction from the Commission. • Audit Reports – once we complete an audit of a company, we publish a report and letter closing the audit. • Administrative Monetary Penalties – both companies and individuals can be fined for actions that are unsafe.
