This dataset represents all real property parcels within the City of Charlottesville, Virginia that are owned by the City of Charlottesville or the City School Board. It includes detailed polygon geometry of parcel boundaries and joins authoritative ownership data from the parcel points layer to identify parcels currently held by the City.The data is filtered using a dynamic view that identifies ownership using common naming conventions found in city records. The city of Charlottesville requested the community's participation in an online survey related to city services and community needs.The Charlottesville City Council is considering a change in the way services get funded as part of what has been known as the Agency Budget Review Team process. This survey aims to collect information from community members about what services are most needed. This information will be used to inform staff and council in making decisions about investments in services.

This layer represents the most recent parcels as recorded through deeds for the City. Since some parcels have multiple owners (e.g. Condos), this data set includes a point feature representing each. Real property zoning and addresses are assigned by Neighborhood Development Services (NDS) and provided to City Assessor staff for entry into the Real Estate system (CAMA). The information contained in this file is NOT to be construed or used as a "legal description" of any parcel. Any perceived errors or omissions should be reported to the City Assessor's Office for correction.

This data set includes information pertaining to the transfer (sales) history for parcels. The "ParcelNumber" field can be joined to the "ParcelNumber" field in the "Parcel Area Details" data set for mapping purposes (current parcels only).This dataset is updated on a daily basis and reflects the Real Estate system as of the previous business day.

The assessment values are done yearly and reassessment notices go out at the end of January.

The new assessment values will be reflected on the GIS viewer after reassessment notices are mailed.

This Vehicle Parking Area layer is continually updated on a daily basis by City staff. Location data for Vehicle Parking Area are received/maintained by NDS staff (from various sources, such as updated orthos, GPS, plats, etc.) and incorporated into this layer.

*This data is updated nightly from the Police Reporting Server housed at the ECC every day at 11:59PM.Arrest data contains information on people taken into custody by City of Charlottesville police officers. More serious crimes such as felony offenses are more likely to result in an arrest. However, arrests can occur as a result of other offenses, such as parole violations or a failure to appear for trial.This dataset only contains information reported by City of Charlottesville Police. It does not contain information about incidents that solely involve other police departments operating within the city (for example, University of Virginia police or Albemarle County police).

This layer represents the Right-of-Way for the Railroad area within the City of Charlottesville.

City of Charlottesville Code Section 4-36 requires that all dogs in the city that are 4 months old and older wear a current dog license. To purchase a tag, the dog owner must present a valid rabies vaccination certificate for the dog along with a completed dog license application. Dogs found on city streets without a valid tag are taken by Animal Control to a shelter where they remain until the owner pays for the vaccination and obtains the proper tag. Dog tags are for the lifetime of the dog and do not expire. Dog tags may be purchased by mail, in the lobby of City Hall, or at the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. Each address point has attribute information including addresses, unique tax parcel ID (PIN) and and building ID (BIN) which is useful for many different city departments (systems and tools). Aside from housing and business addresses the following have also been included in this layer: Empty lots for potential addresses; park and open space addresses. Updated nightly.

The dataset contains locations and attributes of Neighborhood Planning Areas provided by Neighborhood Development Services (NDS). These do not reflect precise neighborhood locations and do not necessarily include all commonly-used neighborhood designations. There is no formal set of standards that describes which neighborhoods are included in this dataset. Note that the City does not have official neighborhood boundaries.
