    Description

This map depicts the population demographics of census tracts surrounding 15 of New Jerseys advertised farmers markets. The aim was to compare total populations to the number of people in a specific marginalized community. Previously, Nazanin and I explored where 15 farmers markets were located in relation to 50 of Southern New Jersey’s biggest farms. We are now exploring what the populations surrounding these markets look like in order to understand who has access to the resources of fresh, locally grown and sourced produce in New Jersey. We acquired the population data from ACS population census on GIS Pro, which retrieved the data from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey. The farmers market data was retrieved from a previous project. In order to create this data set we looked into ACS population statistics. The statistics we chose to explore were the population of Black or African American alone (not Hispanic or Latino) populations living within the census tracts of the fifteen farmers markets we previously researched.

The results we found were as follows. In the 15 census tracts surrounding the farmers markets we researched, 63,672 people were present. Of those 63,672 people, 3,051 people identified as Black or African American. This equates to about 4% of that population being someone who is Black. These results demonstrate that there is a much lower distribution of people of color in areas with markets. Of the 15 census tracts compared, the largest held 6,591 people, in Burlington County, and of those people only 141 were Black or African American. The average number of people per tract was 4,245 and the average number of Black people per tract was 203 people. This data is important because it showcases the inequalities that exist around food security for marginalized groups. Understanding these inequalities can help us work to dismantle the system of systemic inequality that persists, and provide equal access to resources to all groups.

    Description

This geodatabase contains information on brook trout occupancy in the southern portion of the brook trout range (PA and south). Fish sample data from a number of state and federal agencies/organizations were used to define patches for brook trout as groups of occupied contiguous catchment polygons from the National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 1 (NHDPlusV1) catchment GIS layer. After defining patches, NHDPlusV1 catchments were assigned occupancy codes. Then state and federal agencies reviewed patches and codes to verify data accuracy. A similar effort is currently being conducted by the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture to develop occupancy data for the remainder of the brook trout range including states of New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Ohio.

    Description

New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife (NJDFW) uses an integrated approach via a Comprehensive Black Bear Management Policy (CBBMP) to manage black bears that includes research, education, enforcement of intentional/unintentional feeding ban, aversive conditioning, lethal control of Category I bears, and a regulated bear hunting season. The CBBMP is used to manage bears at a level commensurate with available habitat and consistent with a reduced risk to public safety and property. The land-based framework used for informing and implementing the CBBMP, Bear Management Zones (BMZs), are delineated by major and minor roads and waterways and were designated with consideration of habitat quality. The Division, under authority of the Fish and Game Council, designates these boundaries, and they are updated on an as-needed basis. Included for reference are the county and township data. From a population of fewer than 100 in the 1970s, the black bear population has rebounded through appropriate management. The highest densities of bears are found in the northwest part of New Jersey, though over time, the black bear population has expanded south and east, resulting in sightings in all 21 counties. The CBBMP is used to manage bears at a level commensurate with available habitat and consistent with a reduced risk to public safety and property. Black bears have great value to the people of the state and are photographed, watched, and hunted in New Jersey. Description

This file contains COVID-19 death counts and rates by jurisdiction of residence (U.S., HHS Region) and demographic characteristics (sex, age, race and Hispanic origin, and age/race and Hispanic origin). United States death counts and rates include the 50 states, plus the District of Columbia. Deaths with confirmed or presumed COVID-19, coded to ICD–10 code U07.1. Number of deaths reported in this file are the total number of COVID-19 deaths received and coded as of the date of analysis and may not represent all deaths that occurred in that period. Counts of deaths occurring before or after the reporting period are not included in the file. Data during recent periods are incomplete because of the lag in time between when the death occurred and when the death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS and processed for reporting purposes. This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more, depending on the jurisdiction and cause of death. Death counts should not be compared across jurisdictions. Data timeliness varies by state. Some states report deaths on a daily basis, while other states report deaths weekly or monthly. The ten (10) United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regions include the following jurisdictions. Region 1: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont; Region 2: New Jersey, New York; Region 3: Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia; Region 4: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee; Region 5: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin; Region 6: Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas; Region 7: Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska; Region 8: Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming; Region 9: Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada; Region 10: Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington. Rates were calculated using the population estimates for 2021, which are estimated as of July 1, 2021 based on the Blended Base produced by the US Census Bureau in lieu of the April 1, 2020 decennial population count. The Blended Base consists of the blend of Vintage 2020 postcensal population estimates, 2020 Demographic Analysis Estimates, and 2020 Census PL 94-171 Redistricting File (see https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/popest/technical-documentation/methodology/2020-2021/methods-statement-v2021.pdf). Rate are based on deaths occurring in the specified week and are age-adjusted to the 2000 standard population using the direct method (see https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr70/nvsr70-08-508.pdf). These rates differ from annual age-adjusted rates, typically presented in NCHS publications based on a full year of data and annualized weekly age-adjusted rates which have been adjusted to allow comparison with annual rates. Annualization rates presents deaths per year per 100,000 population that would be expected in a year if the observed period specific (weekly) rate prevailed for a full year. Sub-national death counts between 1-9 are suppressed in accordance with NCHS data confidentiality standards. Rates based on death counts less than 20 are suppressed in accordance with NCHS standards of reliability as specified in NCHS Data Presentation Standards for Proportions (available from: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/series/sr_02/sr02_175.pdf.).

Description
About this dataset

Context

The dataset tabulates the Cherry Hill township population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Cherry Hill township across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

Key observations

In 2023, the population of Cherry Hill township was 77,317, a 0.80% increase year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Cherry Hill township population was 76,704, an increase of 1.54% compared to a population of 75,542 in 2021.
