    Description

    The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Edge refers to the linear topological primitives that make up MTDB. The All Lines Shapefile contains linear features such as roads, railroads, and hydrography. Additional attribute data associated with the linear features found in the All Lines Shapefile are available in relationship (.dbf) files that users must download separately. The All Lines Shapefile contains the geometry and attributes of each topological primitive edge. Each edge has a unique TIGER/Line identifier (TLID) value.

    The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2018-2022 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the racial categories idetified by the US Census Bureau. It is ensured that the population estimates used in this dataset pertain exclusively to the identified racial categories, and do not rely on any ethnicity classification.     About this dataset

    Context

    The dataset tabulates the population of Chester County by race. It includes the population of Chester County across racial categories (excluding ethnicity) as identified by the Census Bureau. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of Chester County across relevant racial categories.

    Key observations

    The percent distribution of Chester County population by race (across all racial categories recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau): 59.51% are white, 36.07% are Black or African American, 0.31% are American Indian and Alaska Native, 0.46% are Asian, 0.41% are some other race and 3.24% are multiracial.

The Address Ranges Relationship File (ADDR.dbf) contains the attributes of each address range. Each address range applies to a single edge and has a unique address range identifier (ARID) value. The edge to which an address range applies can be determined by linking the address range to the All Lines Shapefile (EDGES.shp) using the permanent topological edge identifier (TLID) attribute. Multiple address ranges can apply to the same edge since an edge can have multiple address ranges. Note that the most inclusive address range associated with each side of a street edge already appears in the All Lines Shapefile (EDGES.shp). The TIGER/Line Files contain potential address ranges, not individual addresses. The term "address range" refers to the collection of all possible structure numbers from the first structure number to the last structure number and all numbers of a specified parity in between along an edge side relative to the direction in which the edge is coded. The address ranges in the TIGER/Line Files are potential ranges that include the full range of possible structure numbers even though the actual structures may not exist.

    Context

    The dataset presents median household incomes for various household sizes in Penn township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, as reported by the U.S. Census Bureau. The dataset highlights the variation in median household income with the size of the family unit, offering valuable insights into economic trends and disparities within different household sizes, aiding in data analysis and decision-making.

    Key observations

    • Of the 7 household sizes (1 person to 7-or-more person households) reported by the census bureau, Penn township did not include 4, or 6-person households. Across the different household sizes in Penn township the mean income is $153,903, and the standard deviation is $99,223. The coefficient of variation (CV) is 64.47%. This high CV indicates high relative variability, suggesting that the incomes vary significantly across different sizes of households. Please note that the U.S. Census Bureau uses $250,001 as a JAM value to report incomes of $250,000 or more. In the case of Penn township, there were 1 household sizes where the JAM values were used. Thus, the numbers for the mean and standard deviation may not be entirely accurate and have a higher possibility of errors. However, to obtain an approximate estimate, we have used a value of $250,001 as the income for calculations, as reported in the datasets by the U.S. Census Bureau.
    • In the most recent year, 2021, The smallest household size for which the bureau reported a median household income was 1-person households, with an income of $21,247. It then further increased to $270,229 for 7-person households, the largest household size for which the bureau reported a median household income.

The area hydrography feature to which a record in the Topological Faces / Area Hydrography Relationship File (FACESAH.dbf) applies can be determined by linking to the Area Hydrography Shapefile (AREAWATER.shp) using the area hydrography identifier (HYDROID) attribute.     The Enhanced Contrast Map (World Edition) web map provides a detailed vector basemap for the world symbolized using enhanced contrast and a color-vision-deficient-safe palette. It is designed for use as part of a presentation that aims to meet the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) AA standard, and US Government Section 508 compliance. The base layer includes highways, major roads, minor roads, railways, water features, cities, parks, landmarks, and building footprints. The reference layer includes all labels and administrative boundary lines. Label size has been increased where possible, but not to the point where it conceals the map detail.     Measurement technique
    The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age groups. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages.     The National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL) data incorporates all Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) databases published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and any Letters Of Map Revision (LOMRs) that have been issued against those databases since their publication date. It is updated on a monthly basis. The FIRM Database is the digital, geospatial version of the flood hazard information shown on the published paper FIRMs. The FIRM Database depicts flood risk information and supporting data used to develop the risk data. The primary risk classifications used are the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event, the 0.2-percent-annual-chance flood event, and areas of minimal flood risk. The FIRM Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published FIRMs, flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data, where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by FEMA. The NFHL is available as State or US Territory data sets. Each State or Territory data set consists of all FIRM Databases and corresponding LOMRs available on the publication date of the data set. The specification for the horizontal control of FIRM Databases is consistent with those required for mapping at a scale of 1:12,000. This file is georeferenced to the Earth's surface using the Geographic Coordinate System (GCS) and North American Dataum of 1983 (NSRS-2007).

    Description

    This map features an alternative view of the World Imagery map designed to be used as a neutral imagery basemap, with de-saturated colors, that is useful for overlaying other brightly styled layers. This map is intended to support 'firefly cartography' and other cartographic designs that require a neutral background, with the spatial context and texture of imagery, to contrast with the foreground thematic layers that are designed to capture the users attention. The map also includes a reference layer.Content meant to provide spatial context (the basemap) should recede in visual priority, helping to establish the thematic layers that they support (rather than compete with them). There are many ways to sufficiently mute your basemap, but for satellite imagery, de-saturation is a nice option. An image that is all or mostly black and white won’t compete as much with the brightly colored thematic data that it supports. With this map, the color of the imagery is mostly removed at the smallest global scales and then gradually re-introduced at the larger scales, where the full detail of the imagery is available.

    Description

    The Stream Conditions of Chester County Biological Monitoring Network was established by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Chester County Water Resources Authority in 1969. Benthic-macroinvertebrate, habitat, and stream chemistry data were collected annually from 1998-2021 at 18 fixed location sites. Additionally, nine flexible location sites were selected and sampled annually from 1998-2021. Some of the flexible location sites were sampled more than once over the study period. All data were collected in the fall months (October-November) during baseflow conditions. The benthic-macroinvertebrate data collected was used to calculate six metrics and to establish an index of biotic integrity for each sample, while the habitat data was compiled to create a habitat score for each site and sample date. Three data files in .xlsx and .txt formats include: (1) the type and count of benthic macroinvertebrates in each sample, (2) the total number of organisms in the sample, the six calculated benthic-macroinvertebrate metrics, and the overall index of biotic integrity, and (3) the ten measured habitat characteristics and the overall habitat score for each site and date. The associated stream chemistry data collected for each site and date can be downloaded from the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water Information System.

Description

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Edge refers to the linear topological primitives that make up MTDB. The All Lines Shapefile contains linear features such as roads, railroads, and hydrography. Additional attribute data associated with the linear features found in the All Lines Shapefile are available in relationship (.dbf) files that users must download separately. The All Lines Shapefile contains the geometry and attributes of each topological primitive edge. Each edge has a unique TIGER/Line identifier (TLID) value.
