    The American Samoa Summary File contains data on population and housing subjects compiled from questions on the 2010 American Samoa Census questionnaire. Population subjects include age, sex, children ever born, citizenship status, foreign-born status, disability status, educational attainment, ethnic origin or race, family type, grandparents as caregivers, group quarters population, health insurance coverage status, household type and relationship, employment status and subsistence activity, work experience, class of worker, industry, occupation, place of work, journey to work, travel time to work, language spoken at home and frequency of language usage, marital status, nativity, year of entry, place of birth, parents' place of birth, earnings, income, remittances sent abroad, poverty status, residence in 2009, reason for moving, school enrollment, vocational training, military dependents and veteran status. Housing subjects include air conditioning, battery-operated radio ownership, computer ownership, gross rent, internet service, kitchen facilities, cooking facilities, mortgage status, number of rooms, number of bedrooms, occupancy status, occupants per room, plumbing facilities, condominium fee, selected monthly owner costs, sewage disposal, water supply, source of water, telephone service available, tenure, type of building materials, units in structure, vacancy status, value of home, vehicles available, year householder moved into unit and year structure built. The data are organized in 405 tables, one variable per table cell, which are presented at up to 19 levels of observation, including American Samoa as a whole, districts (including two separate atolls), counties, villages, census tracts, block groups, blocks and 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas. Fifty tables are presented at the block level and higher, 250 at the block group level and higher and 105 at the census tract level and higher. Additionally, the tables are iterated for the urban and rural geographic components of districts/atolls and 21 geographic components of American Samoa as a whole: 15 urban components (total urban, urbanized areas, urban clusters, and urbanized areas and urban clusters of various population sizes) and 6 rural components (total rural, rural areas outside places, rural areas inside places and inside places of various population sizes). Due to problems in the initial version, the Census Bureau ultimately issued the tables as three data products. The first or main release comprises 32 data files with all the tables except PBG7 (Nativity by Citizen Status by Year of Entry), PBG9 (Year of Entry for the Foreign-born Population) and ten tables on selected monthly owner costs, the tables HBG72, HBG73, HBG74, HBG75, HBG76, HBG77, HBG78, HCT17, HCT18, and HCT19. The second, called the American Samoa Year of Entry Summary File, consists of two data files with the tables PBG7 and PBG9. The third is a document file with the ten tables on selected monthly owner costs. This data collection comprises a codebook and three ZIP archives. The first archive contains the 32 data files in the main release, the second the two Year of Entry data files and the third contains the document file with the ten selected monthly owner costs tables and additional technical documentation.

    This layer shows children by nativity of parents by age group. This is shown by tract, county, and state boundaries. This service is updated annually to contain the most currently released American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year data, and contains estimates and margins of error. There are also additional calculated attributes related to this topic, which can be mapped or used within analysis. This layer is symbolized to show the percentage of children who are in immigrant families (children who are foreign born or live with at least one parent who is foreign born). Click here to learn more about ACS data releases.Boundaries come from the US Census TIGER geodatabases, specifically, the National Sub-State Geography Database (named tlgdb_(year)_a_us_substategeo.gdb). Boundaries are updated at the same time as the data updates (annually), and the boundary vintage appropriately matches the data vintage as specified by the Census. These are Census boundaries with water and/or coastlines erased for cartographic and mapping purposes. For census tracts, the water cutouts are derived from a subset of the 2020 Areal Hydrography boundaries offered by TIGER. Water bodies and rivers which are 50 million square meters or larger (mid to large sized water bodies) are erased from the tract level boundaries, as well as additional important features. For state and county boundaries, the water and coastlines are derived from the coastlines of the 2023 500k TIGER Cartographic Boundary Shapefiles. These are erased to more accurately portray the coastlines and Great Lakes. The original AWATER and ALAND fields are still available as attributes within the data table (units are square meters). The States layer contains 52 records - all US states, Washington D.C., and Puerto RicoCensus tracts with no population that occur in areas of water, such as oceans, are removed from this data service (Census Tracts beginning with 99).Percentages and derived counts, and associated margins of error, are calculated values (that can be identified by the "_calc_" stub in the field name), and abide by the specifications defined by the American Community Survey.Field alias names were created based on the Table Shells file available from the American Community Survey Summary File Documentation page.Negative values (e.g., -4444...) have been set to null, with the exception of -5555... which has been set to zero. These negative values exist in the raw API data to indicate the following situations:The margin of error column indicates that either no sample observations or too few sample observations were available to compute a standard error and thus the margin of error. Housing subjects include acreage, agricultural sales, business on property, computer ownership, internet service, kitchen facilities, cooking fuel, mortgage status, number of rooms, number of bedrooms, occupancy status, occupants per room, plumbing facilities, purchase of water from water vendor, gross rent, condominium status and fee, mobile home costs, selected monthly owner costs, sewage disposal, source of water, telephone service available, tenure, units in structure, vacancy status, value of home, vehicles available, year householder moved into unit and year structure built. The data are organized in 548 tables, one variable per table cell, which are presented at up to 21 levels of observation, including the United States Virgin Islands as a whole, islands, census subdistricts, places (census designated places and towns), estates, census tracts, block groups, blocks and 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas. Altogether, 110 tables are presented at the block level and higher, 288 at the block group level and higher and 150 at the census tract level and higher. Additionally, the tables are iterated for the urban and rural geographic components of islands and 21 geographic components of the United States Virgin Islands as a whole: 15 urban components (total urban, urbanized areas, urban clusters, and urbanized areas and urban clusters of various population sizes) and 6 rural components (total rural, rural areas outside places, rural areas inside places and inside places of various population sizes). Due to problems in the initial version, the Census Bureau ultimately issued the Summary File as two data products. The first or main release comprises 50 data files with all the tables except 11 tables on selected monthly owner costs, the tables HBG66, HBG67, HBG68, HBG69, HBG70, HBG71, HBG72, HBG73, HCT19, HCT20 and HCT21. The second, supplemental release consists of a document file with the 11 tables on selected monthly owner costs. ICPSR provides each product as a separate ZIP archive. The archive with the supplemental release also includes additional technical documentation prepared by the Bureau.

These are Census boundaries with water and/or coastlines erased for cartographic and mapping purposes. For census tracts, the water cutouts are derived from a subset of the 2020 Areal Hydrography boundaries offered by TIGER.     This layer was developed by the Research & Analytics Group of the Atlanta Regional Commission, using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 5-year estimates for 2013-2017, to show the number of grandparents living with grandchildren and the number and percentage of grandparents responsible for grandchildren by Neighborhood Planning Units S, T, and V in the Atlanta region.

    The user should note that American Community Survey data represent estimates derived from a surveyed sample of the population, which creates some level of uncertainty, as opposed to an exact measure of the entire population (the full census count is only conducted once every 10 years and does not cover as many detailed characteristics of the population). Therefore, any measure reported by ACS should not be taken as an exact number – this is why a corresponding margin of error (MOE) is also given for ACS measures. The size of the MOE relative to its corresponding estimate value provides an indication of confidence in the accuracy of each estimate. Each MOE is expressed in the same units as its corresponding measure; for example, if the estimate value is expressed as a number, then its MOE will also be a number; if the estimate value is expressed as a percent, then its MOE will also be a percent.

    The user should also note that for relatively small geographic areas, such as census tracts shown here, ACS only releases combined 5-year estimates, meaning these estimates represent rolling averages of survey results that were collected over a 5-year span (in this case 2013-2017).     Description

    This dataset contains replication files for "The Opportunity Atlas: Mapping the Childhood Roots of Social Mobility" by Raj Chetty, John Friedman, Nathaniel Hendren, Maggie R. Jones, and Sonya R. Porter. For more information, see https://opportunityinsights.org/paper/the-opportunity-atlas/. A summary of the related publication follows. We construct a publicly available atlas of children’s outcomes in adulthood by Census tract using anonymized longitudinal data covering nearly the entire U.S. population. For each tract, we estimate children’s earnings distributions, incarceration rates, and other outcomes in adulthood by parental income, race, and gender. These estimates allow us to trace the roots of outcomes such as poverty and incarceration back to the neighborhoods in which children grew up. We find that children’s outcomes vary sharply across nearby tracts: for children of parents at the 25th percentile of the income distribution, the standard deviation of mean household income at age 35 is $5,000 across tracts within counties. We illustrate how these tract-level data can provide insight into how neighborhoods shape the development of human capital and support local economic policy using two applications. First, we show that the estimates permit precise targeting of policies to improve economic opportunity by uncovering specific neighborhoods where certain subgroups of children grow up to have poor outcomes. Neighborhoods matter at a very granular level: conditional on characteristics such as poverty rates in a child’s own Census tract, characteristics of tracts that are one mile away have little predictive power for a child’s outcomes. Our historical estimates are informative predictors of outcomes even for children growing up today because neighborhood conditions are relatively stable over time. Second, we show that the observational estimates are highly predictive of neighborhoods’ causal effects, based on a comparison to data from the Moving to Opportunity experiment and a quasi-experimental research design analyzing movers’ outcomes. We then identify high-opportunity neighborhoods that are affordable to low-income families, providing an input into the design of affordable housing policies. Our measures of children’s long-term outcomes are only weakly correlated with traditional proxies for local economic success such as rates of job growth, showing that the conditions that create greater upward mobility are not necessarily the same as those that lead to productive labor markets.     Abstract

    The Opportunity Atlas has collected contextual data by county and tract. Rather than providing contextual socioeconomic data of where people currently live, the data represents average socioeconomic indicators (e.g., earnings) of where people grew up.

    Documentation

    A core element of Population Health Science is that health outcomes can only be fully understood when they are studied within their context. Therefore, we have a copy of The Opportunity Atlas, a dataset that provides socioeconomic data by county and tract.

    Several studies have shown that especially childhood neighborhoods drive adult outcomes and that residential areas lived in through adulthood have much smaller effects. The focus of the Opportunity Atlas is therefore on contextual data of where people grew up:

    %3E Traditional measures of poverty and neighborhood conditions provide snapshots of income and other variables for residents in an area at a given point in time. But to study how economic opportunity varies across neighborhoods, we really need to follow people over many years and see how one’s outcomes depend upon family circumstances and where on grew up. The Opportunity Atlas is the first dataset that provides such longitudinal information at a detailed neighborhood level. Using the Atlas, you can see not just where the rich and poor currently live – which was possible in previously available data from the Census Bureau – but whether children in a given area tend to grow up to become rich of poor. This focus on mobility out of poverty across generations allows us to trace the roots of outcomes such as poverty and incarceration back to where kids grew up, potentially permitting much more effective interventions.

    As such, The Opportunity Atlas data provides a rich source of data for researchers who wish to overlay health data with contextual data.

    Methodology

    Three sources of Census Bureau are linked to compute the data

    1. The 2000 and 2010 Decennial Census short form
    2. Federal income tax returns for 1989, 1994, 1995, 1998-2015
    3. The 2000 Decennial Census long form and the 2005-2015 American Community Surveys (ACS).

    20.5 million Americans born between 1987-1983 are sampled from these data and mapped back to the Census tracts they lived in through age 23. After that step, a range of outcomes are then estimated for each of the 70,000 tracts. In order to comply with federal data disclosure standards and protect the privacy of individuals no estimates in tracts with 20 or fewer children are published and noise (small random numbers) is added to all the estimates.

    The Guam Summary File contains data on population and housing subjects compiled from questions on the 2010 Guam Census questionnaire. Population subjects include age, sex, children ever born, citizenship status, foreign-born status, disability status, educational attainment, ethnic origin or race, family type, grandparents as caregivers, group quarters population, health insurance coverage status, household type and relationship, employment status and subsistence activity, work experience, class of worker, industry, occupation, place of work, journey to work, travel time to work, language spoken at home and frequency of language usage, marital status, nativity, year of entry, place of birth, parents' place of birth, earnings, income, remittances sent abroad, poverty status, residence in 2009, reason for moving, school enrollment, vocational training, military dependents and veteran status. Housing subjects include air conditioning, battery-operated radio ownership, computer ownership, internet service, kitchen facilities, cooking facilities, mortgage status, number of rooms, number of bedrooms, occupancy status, occupants per room, plumbing facilities, gross rent, condominium fee, selected monthly owner costs, sewage disposal, water supply, source of water, telephone service available, tenure, type of building materials, units in structure, vacancy status, value of home, vehicles available, year householder moved into unit and year structure built. The data are organized in 411 tables, one variable per table cell, which are presented at up to 15 levels of observation, including Guam as a whole, municipalities, census designated places, census tracts, block groups, blocks and 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas. Fifty tables are presented at the block level and higher, 255 at the block group level and higher and 106 at the census tract level and higher. Additionally, the tables are iterated for 21 geographic components of Guam as a whole: 15 urban components (total urban, urbanized areas, urban clusters, and urbanized areas and urban clusters of various population sizes) and 6 rural components (total rural, rural areas outside places, rural areas inside places and inside places of various population sizes). Due to problems in the initial version, the Census Bureau ultimately issued the tables as three data products. The first or main release comprises 35 data files with all the tables except PBG7 (Nativity by Citizen Status by Year of Entry), PBG9 (Year of Entry for the Foreign-born Population) and ten tables on selected monthly owner costs, the tables HBG75, HBG76, HBG77, HBG78, HBG79, HBG80, HBG81, HCT18, HCT19 and HCT20. The second, called the Guam Year of Entry Summary File, consists of two data files with the tables PBG7 and PBG9. The third is a document file with the ten tables on selected monthly owner costs. ICPSR provides each product as a separate ZIP archive. The archive with the selected monthly owner costs tables also includes additional technical documentation prepared by the Bureau.

    Abstract

    The primary objective of the 2017 Indonesia Dmographic and Health Survey (IDHS) is to provide up-to-date estimates of basic demographic and health indicators. The IDHS provides a comprehensive overview of population and maternal and child health issues in Indonesia. More specifically, the IDHS was designed to: - provide data on fertility, family planning, maternal and child health, and awareness of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) to help program managers, policy makers, and researchers to evaluate and improve existing programs; - measure trends in fertility and contraceptive prevalence rates, and analyze factors that affect such changes, such as residence, education, breastfeeding practices, and knowledge, use, and availability of contraceptive methods; - evaluate the achievement of goals previously set by national health programs, with special focus on maternal and child health; - assess married men’s knowledge of utilization of health services for their family’s health and participation in the health care of their families; - participate in creating an international database to allow cross-country comparisons in the areas of fertility, family planning, and health.

    Sampling procedure

    The 2017 IDHS sample covered 1,970 census blocks in urban and rural areas and was expected to obtain responses from 49,250 households. The sampled households were expected to identify about 59,100 women age 15-49 and 24,625 never-married men age 15-24 eligible for individual interview. Eight households were selected in each selected census block to yield 14,193 married men age 15-54 to be interviewed with the Married Man's Questionnaire. The sample frame of the 2017 IDHS is the Master Sample of Census Blocks from the 2010 Population Census. The frame for the household sample selection is the updated list of ordinary households in the selected census blocks. This list does not include institutional households, such as orphanages, police/military barracks, and prisons, or special households (boarding houses with a minimum of 10 people).

    The sampling design of the 2017 IDHS used two-stage stratified sampling: Stage 1: Several census blocks were selected with systematic sampling proportional to size, where size is the number of households listed in the 2010 Population Census. In the implicit stratification, the census blocks were stratified by urban and rural areas and ordered by wealth index category.

    Stage 2: In each selected census block, 25 ordinary households were selected with systematic sampling from the updated household listing. Eight households were selected systematically to obtain a sample of married men.

    Research instrument

    The 2017 IDHS used four questionnaires: the Household Questionnaire, Woman’s Questionnaire, Married Man’s Questionnaire, and Never Married Man’s Questionnaire. Because of the change in survey coverage from ever-married women age 15-49 in the 2007 IDHS to all women age 15-49, the Woman’s Questionnaire had questions added for never married women age 15-24. These questions were part of the 2007 Indonesia Young Adult Reproductive Survey Questionnaire. The Household Questionnaire and the Woman’s Questionnaire are largely based on standard DHS phase 7 questionnaires (2015 version). The model questionnaires were adapted for use in Indonesia. Not all questions in the DHS model were included in the IDHS. Response categories were modified to reflect the local situation.

    Cleaning operations

    All completed questionnaires, along with the control forms, were returned to the BPS central office in Jakarta for data processing. The questionnaires were logged and edited, and all open-ended questions were coded. Responses were entered in the computer twice for verification, and they were corrected for computer-identified errors. Data processing activities were carried out by a team of 34 editors, 112 data entry operators, 33 compare officers, 19 secondary data editors, and 2 data entry supervisors. The questionnaires were entered twice and the entries were compared to detect and correct keying errors. A computer package program called Census and Survey Processing System (CSPro), which was specifically designed to process DHS-type survey data, was used in the processing of the 2017 IDHS.

    Response rate

    Of the 49,261 eligible households, 48,216 households were found by the interviewer teams. Among these households, 47,963 households were successfully interviewed, a response rate of almost 100%.

    In the interviewed households, 50,730 women were identified as eligible for individual interview and, from these, completed interviews were conducted with 49,627 women, yielding a response rate of 98%. From the selected household sample of married men, 10,440 married men were identified as eligible for interview, of which 10,009 were successfully interviewed, yielding a response rate of 96%. The lower response rate for men was due to the more frequent and longer absence of men from the household. In general, response rates in rural areas were higher than those in urban areas.

    Sampling error estimates

    The estimates from a sample survey are affected by two types of errors: (1) nonsampling errors and (2) sampling errors. Nonsampling errors result from mistakes made in implementing data collection and data processing, such as failure to locate and interview the correct household, misunderstanding the questions on the part of either the interviewer or the respondent, and data entry errors. Although numerous efforts were made during the implementation of the 2017 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey (2017 IDHS) to minimize this type of error, nonsampling errors are impossible to avoid and difficult to evaluate statistically.

    Sampling errors, on the other hand, can be evaluated statistically. The sample of respondents selected in the 2017 IDHS is only one of many samples that could have been selected from the same population, using the same design and identical size. Each of these samples would yield results that differ somewhat from the results of the actual sample selected. Sampling error is a measure of the variability among all possible samples. Although the degree of variability is not known exactly, it can be estimated from the survey results.

    A sampling error is usually measured in terms of the standard error for a particular statistic (mean, percentage, etc.), which is the square root of the variance. The standard error can be used to calculate confidence intervals within which the true value for the population can reasonably be assumed to fall. For example, for any given statistic calculated from a sample survey, the value of that statistic will fall within a range of plus or minus two times the standard error of that statistic in 95 percent of all possible samples of identical size and design.

    If the sample of respondents had been selected as a simple random sample, it would have been possible to use straightforward formulas for calculating sampling errors. However, the 2017 IDHS sample is the result of a multi-stage stratified design, and, consequently, it was necessary to use more complex formulas. The computer software used to calculate sampling errors for the 2017 IDHS is a STATA program. This program used the Taylor linearization method for variance estimation for survey estimates that are means or proportions. The Jackknife repeated replication method is used for variance estimation of more complex statistics such as fertility and mortality rates.

    This table shows the number and percent of residents of each CT town that have initiated COVID-19 vaccination, are fully vaccinated and who have received additional dose 1 by age group.

    All data in this report are preliminary; data for previous dates will be updated as new reports are received and data errors are corrected.

    In the data shown here, a person who has received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine is considered to have initiated vaccination. A person is considered fully vaccinated if he/she has completed a primary vaccination series by receiving 2 doses of the Pfizer, Novavax or Moderna vaccines or 1 dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The fully vaccinated are a subset of the people who have received at least one dose.

    A person who completed a Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax or Johnson & Johnson primary series (as defined above) and then had an additional monovalent dose of COVID-19 vaccine is considered to have had additional dose 1. The additional dose may be Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax or Johnson & Johnson and may be a different type from the primary series. For people who had a primary Pfizer or Moderna series, additional dose 1 was counted starting August 18th, 2021. For people with a Johnson & Johnson primary series additional dose 1 was counted starting October 22nd, 2021. For most people, additional dose 1 is a booster. However, additional dose 1 may represent a supplement to the primary series for a people who is moderately or severely immunosuppressed. Bivalent booster administrations are not included in the additional dose 1 calculations.

    The percent with at least one dose many be over-estimated, and the percent fully vaccinated and with additional dose 1 may be under-estimated because of vaccine administration records for individuals that cannot be linked because of differences in how names or date of birth are reported.

    Town of residence is verified by geocoding the reported address and then mapping it a town using municipal boundaries. If an address cannot be geocoded, the reported town is used. Out-of-state residents vaccinated by CT providers are excluded from the table.

    The population denominators for these town- and age-specific coverage estimates are based on 2014 census estimates. This is the most recent year for which reliable town- and age-specific estimates are available. (https://portal.ct.gov/DPH/Health-Information-Systems--Reporting/Population/Town-Population-with-Demographics). This census data is grouped in 5-year age bands. For vaccine coverage age groupings not consistent with a standard 5-year age band, each age was assumed to be 20% of the total within a 5-year age band. However, given the large deviation from this assumption for Mansfield because of the presence of the University of Connecticut, the age distribution observed in the 2010 census for the age bands 15 to 19 and 20 to 24 was used to estimate the population denominators.

    Town-level coverage estimates have been capped at 100%. Observed coverage may be greater than 100% for multiple reasons, including census denominator data not including all individuals that currently reside in the town (e.g., part time residents, change in population size since the census), errors in address data or other reporting errors.

    Caution should be used when interpreting coverage estimates for towns with large college/university populations since coverage may be underestimated. In the census, college/university students who live on or just off campus would be counted in the college/university town. However, if a student was vaccinated while studying remotely in his/her hometown, the student may be counted as a vaccine recipient in that town.

    Connecticut COVID-19 Vaccine Program providers are required to report information on all COVID-19 vaccine doses administered to CT WiZ, the Connecticut Immunization Information System. Data on doses administered to CT residents out-of-state are being added to CT WiZ jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction. Doses administered by some Federal entities (including Department of Defense, Department of Correction, Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Indian Health Service) are not yet reported to CT WiZ.  Data reported here reflect the vaccination records currently reported to CT WiZ.

    SVI refers to the CDC's Social Vulnerability Index - a measure that combines 15 demographic variables to identify communities most vulnerable to negative health impacts from disasters and public health crises. Measures of social vulnerability include socioeconomic status, household composition, disability, race, ethnicity, language, and transportation limitations - among others. Towns with a "yes" in the "Has SVI tract >0.75" field are those that have at least one census tract that is in the top quartile of vulnerability (e.g., a high-need area). 34 towns in Connecticut have at least one census tract in the top quartile for vulnerability.

    Note: This dataset takes the place of the original "COVID-19 Vaccinations by Town" dataset (https://data.ct.gov/Health-and-Human-Services/COVID-19-Vaccinations-by-Town/pdqi-ds7f), which will not be updated after 4/15/2021.     Description

    ObjectivesOf the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH), we evaluated socioeconomic and neighborhood-related factors which may affect children with medical complexity (CMC) admitted to a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Shelby County, Tennessee with severe sepsis and their association with PICU length of stay (LOS). We hypothesized that census tract-level socioeconomic and neighborhood factors were associated with prolonged PICU LOS in CMC admitted with severe sepsis in the underserved community.MethodsThis single-center retrospective observational study included CMC living in Shelby County, Tennessee admitted to the ICU with severe sepsis over an 18-month period. Severe sepsis CMC patients were identified using an existing algorithm incorporated into the electronic medical record at a freestanding children's hospital. SDoH information was collected and analyzed using patient records and publicly available census-tract level data, with ICU length of stay as the primary outcome.Results83 encounters representing 73 patients were included in the analysis. The median PICU LOS was 9.04 days (IQR 3.99–20.35). The population was 53% male with a median age of 4.1 years (IQR 1.96–12.02). There were 57 Black/African American patients (68.7%) and 85.5% had public insurance. Based on census tract-level data, about half (49.4%) of the CMC severe sepsis population lived in census tracts classified as suffering from high social vulnerability. There were no statistically significant relationships between any socioeconomic and neighborhood level factors and PICU LOS.ConclusionPediatric CMC severe sepsis patients admitted to the PICU do not have prolonged lengths of ICU stay related to socioeconomic and neighborhood-level SDoH at our center. A larger sample with the use of individual-level screening would need to be evaluated for associations between social determinants of health and PICU outcomes of these patients.

    Description

    Relative concentration of the estimated number of people in the Sierra Nevada region that live in a household defined as "low income." There are multiple ways to define low income. These data apply the most common standard: low income population consists of all members of households that collectively have income less than twice the federal poverty threshold that applies to their household type. Household type refers to the household's resident composition: the number of independent adults plus dependents that can be of any age, from children to elderly. For example, a household with four people ' one working adult parent and three dependent children ' has a different poverty threshold than a household comprised of four unrelated independent adults.

    Due to high estimate uncertainty for many block group estimates of the number of people living in low income households, some records cannot be reliably assigned a class and class code comparable to those assigned to race/ethnicity data from the decennial Census.

    "Relative concentration" is a measure that compares the proportion of population within each Census block group data unit to the proportion of all people that live within the 775 block groups in the Sierra Nevada RRK region.     To determine the impact of prenatal and infant/toddler nurse home visiting on maternal and child mortality over 20 years following program enrollment. Three randomized controlled trials (Elmira, NY; Memphis, TN; Denver, CO) designed originally to assess program impacts on pregnancy outcomes and maternal and child health through child age 2. Each trial included a control group, a group that received the full intervention (nurse visitation through child age 2), and an alternative treatment group (nurse home visitation through pregnancy only or visitation by paraprofessionals through child age 2). Due to sample size considerations, the Elmira and Denver samples were combined for all mortality analyses. For determining mortality, background information used for determining mortality status was available for all 1138 mothers randomized to a Memphis treatment condition and all but 13 of the live-born children (n=1076). For the combined Elmira and Denver group, background information was available for all 1135 mothers randomized to any one of the treatment conditions and all but 10 of the live born children (n=1087). Pregnant women and their first-born children who were enrolled in one of three trials of the Nurse-Family Partnership (Elmira, Memphis, Denver) were included in the current study. The Elmira sample (N = 400) was enrolled between April 1978 and September 1980 with an 80% recruitment rate. At enrollment, 47% of the participating women were younger than 19 years of age, 62% were unmarried, and 61% came from families in Hollingshead’s social classes IV and V (semi-skilled and unskilled laborers). In the Memphis trial, a total of 1138 out of 1289 eligible women (88.3%) completed informed consent and were randomized from June 1, 1990, through August 31, 1991. We enrolled primarily African American women at less than 29 weeks of gestation, with no previous live births, and with at least 2 of the following socio-demographic risk characteristics: unmarried, less than 12 years of education, and unemployed. Of the women enrolled, 92.1% were African American, 98.1% were unmarried, 64.1% were 18 years or younger at registration, and 85.1% came from households with annual incomes below the US federal poverty guidelines. Denver trial enrollment took place between March 1994 and June 1995 with a total of 735 out of 1178 consecutive pregnant women with no previous live births who were eligible for Medicaid or who had no private health insurance enrolled in the trial and were randomized to control, paraprofessional, or nurse-visited conditions. 86% of participating women were unmarried, 42% were under 19 years of age, 45% were Latino, and on average participants lived in census tracts where 20% of the population was below the poverty line. The current study was approved by the University of Rochester Institutional Review Board and the Combined Institutional Review Board of the University of Colorado.

    Description

    This layer was developed by the Research & Analytics Group of the Atlanta Regional Commission, using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 5-year estimates for 2013-2017, to show the number of grandparents living with grandchildren and the number and percentage of grandparents responsible for grandchildren by Dekalb Sustainable Neighborhood Initiative in the Atlanta region.

    The user should note that American Community Survey data represent estimates derived from a surveyed sample of the population, which creates some level of uncertainty, as opposed to an exact measure of the entire population (the full census count is only conducted once every 10 years and does not cover as many detailed characteristics of the population). Therefore, any measure reported by ACS should not be taken as an exact number – this is why a corresponding margin of error (MOE) is also given for ACS measures. The size of the MOE relative to its corresponding estimate value provides an indication of confidence in the accuracy of each estimate. Each MOE is expressed in the same units as its corresponding measure; for example, if the estimate value is expressed as a number, then its MOE will also be a number; if the estimate value is expressed as a percent, then its MOE will also be a percent.

    The user should also note that for relatively small geographic areas, such as census tracts shown here, ACS only releases combined 5-year estimates, meaning these estimates represent rolling averages of survey results that were collected over a 5-year span (in this case 2013-2017). Therefore, these data do not represent any one specific point in time or even one specific year. For geographic areas with larger populations, 3-year and 1-year estimates are also available.

The reason this data is 5+ years different from the most recent vintage is due to the overlapping of survey years. It is recommended by the U.S. Census Bureau to compare non-overlapping datasets.Boundaries come from the US Census TIGER geodatabases. Boundary vintage (2014) appropriately matches the data vintage as specified by the Census. These are Census boundaries with water and/or coastlines clipped for cartographic purposes. For census tracts, the water cutouts are derived from a subset of the 2010 AWATER (Area Water) boundaries offered by TIGER. For state and county boundaries, the water and coastlines are derived from the coastlines of the 500k TIGER Cartographic Boundary Shapefiles. The original AWATER and ALAND fields are still available as attributes within the data table (units are square meters). The States layer contains 52 records - all US states, Washington D.C., and Puerto RicoCensus tracts with no population that occur in areas of water, such as oceans, are removed from this data service (Census Tracts beginning with 99).Percentages and derived counts, and associated margins of error, are calculated values (that can be identified by the "_calc_" stub in the field name), and abide by the specifications defined by the American Community Survey.Field alias names were created based on the Table Shells file available from the American Community Survey Summary File Documentation page.Negative values (e.g., -4444...) have been set to null, with the exception of -5555... which has been set to zero. Description

The American Samoa Summary File contains data on population and housing subjects compiled from questions on the 2010 American Samoa Census questionnaire. Population subjects include age, sex, children ever born, citizenship status, foreign-born status, disability status, educational attainment, ethnic origin or race, family type, grandparents as caregivers, group quarters population, health insurance coverage status, household type and relationship, employment status and subsistence activity, work experience, class of worker, industry, occupation, place of work, journey to work, travel time to work, language spoken at home and frequency of language usage, marital status, nativity, year of entry, place of birth, parents' place of birth, earnings, income, remittances sent abroad, poverty status, residence in 2009, reason for moving, school enrollment, vocational training, military dependents and veteran status. Housing subjects include air conditioning, battery-operated radio ownership, computer ownership, gross rent, internet service, kitchen facilities, cooking facilities, mortgage status, number of rooms, number of bedrooms, occupancy status, occupants per room, plumbing facilities, condominium fee, selected monthly owner costs, sewage disposal, water supply, source of water, telephone service available, tenure, type of building materials, units in structure, vacancy status, value of home, vehicles available, year householder moved into unit and year structure built. The data are organized in 405 tables, one variable per table cell, which are presented at up to 19 levels of observation, including American Samoa as a whole, districts (including two separate atolls), counties, villages, census tracts, block groups, blocks and 5-digit ZIP Code Tabulation Areas. Fifty tables are presented at the block level and higher, 250 at the block group level and higher and 105 at the census tract level and higher. Additionally, the tables are iterated for the urban and rural geographic components of districts/atolls and 21 geographic components of American Samoa as a whole: 15 urban components (total urban, urbanized areas, urban clusters, and urbanized areas and urban clusters of various population sizes) and 6 rural components (total rural, rural areas outside places, rural areas inside places and inside places of various population sizes). Due to problems in the initial version, the Census Bureau ultimately issued the tables as three data products. The first or main release comprises 32 data files with all the tables except PBG7 (Nativity by Citizen Status by Year of Entry), PBG9 (Year of Entry for the Foreign-born Population) and ten tables on selected monthly owner costs, the tables HBG72, HBG73, HBG74, HBG75, HBG76, HBG77, HBG78, HCT17, HCT18, and HCT19. The second, called the American Samoa Year of Entry Summary File, consists of two data files with the tables PBG7 and PBG9. The third is a document file with the ten tables on selected monthly owner costs. This data collection comprises a codebook and three ZIP archives. The first archive contains the 32 data files in the main release, the second the two Year of Entry data files and the third contains the document file with the ten selected monthly owner costs tables and additional technical documentation.
