TwitterA survey from the fall of 2024, found that the most used tobacco products among college students in the United States were e-cigarettes or other vape products. At that time, around 76 percent of college students who used tobacco products in the past three months reported they used e-cigarettes or other vape products. The same survey found that among college students who reported ever using a tobacco product, around 25 percent stated they used tobacco daily or almost daily in the past three months, while 28 percent had used just once or twice. What is the most popular kind of tobacco product in the United States? Although e-cigarettes are the most used tobacco product among college students, the most commonly used form of tobacco among U.S. adults is still regular combustible cigarettes. In 2021, around 10 percent of women and 13 percent of men were current cigarette smokers, compared to four percent of women and five percent of men who smoked e-cigarettes. However, e-cigarette use is much more common among younger adults, not just college students. In 2021, around 11 percent of those aged 18 to 24 years used e-cigarettes, while five percent smoked combustible cigarettes. Smoking trends in the United States Smoking in the United States has dramatically decreased over the past few decades. In 1965, it was estimated that around 42 percent of adults in the U.S. smoked, but this number was only about 14 percent in 2019. Nevertheless, as of 2022, almost 29 million people still smoked and are at risk of premature death due to cancer, cardiovascular disease, or stroke, just a few of the risk factors of smoking. The state with the highest percentage of adults who smoke is West Virginia, while Utah has the lowest prevalence of smoking. In 2023, around 20 percent of adults in West Virginia smoked, compared to six percent in Utah.

TwitterThis online study examined the impact on smoking and vaping craving of exposure to smoking (i.e., tobacco cigarette), vaping (i.e., cigalike and tank system device), or neutral cues. Participants (n=1120 recruited, n=936 for analysis) included UK adult current or former smokers who either vaped or did not vape. They were randomised to view one of four cue videos. The primary outcome was urge to smoke; secondary outcomes were urge to vape, desire to smoke and vape, as well as intention to quit smoking or remain abstinent from smoking. We found no evidence that exposure to videos of smoking or vaping cued smoking urges, and no evidence of interaction effects between cue exposure and smoking and vaping status. The study highlights the potential limitations of using an online setting for assessing craving. The study protocol was preregistered on the Open Science Framework: https://osf.io/a6jpu/.PLEASE NOTE: Any values that are listed as NULL in the data sheet are either missing values or not applicable values.

BackgroundE-cigarettes use “vaping” is a growing public health concern. The Arabic-validated Vaping Attitude and Perceptions Scale (VAPeS) instrument assesses vaping determinants across five constructs: Social Influence, Perceived Harms, Vaping Pleasure, Behavioral Influences, and Economic and Self-Efficacy. We aimed to examine the prevalence of cigarette, e-cigarette, and narghile use among Arab university students and to identify the associations between demographic/VAPeS-related variables and the smoking attitudes among vapers.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was distributed online among university students across Arab countries during January–April 2025. Prevalence estimates were calculated using one-sample proportions with Wilson Score confidence intervals. The modified VAPeS scale comprising four constructs after confirmatory factor analysis (Social Influence, Perceived Benefits, Behavioral Influence - Risk, and Behavioral Influence - Situational Triggers) was used to assess tobacco use attitudes. The primary outcome was the Endorsement of Tobacco Use Attitude Score (ETUAS). Multivariate analyses using multinomial logistic and linear regressions were conducted to examine factors associated with tobacco use attitudes.ResultsAmong 1,338 university students surveyed, the majority were from Kuwait (21.0%), Egypt (18.5%), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA, 17.8%), Jordan (16.7%), and the United Arab Emirates (UAE, 10.0%). Vaping was the most prevalent form of tobacco use (21.2%), surpassing narghile (12.9%) and cigarette smoking (10.8%). Multivariate analyses revealed that male students were more likely to engage in all three tobacco use forms. Male sex was associated with higher prevalence of vaping (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 6.97; p

Adults included in this indicator are those who reported using e-cigarettes in the past month.Electronic cigarettes, also called e-cigarettes, e-hookahs, mods, vape pens, and electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), have been sold in the US for about a decade and are the most commonly used tobacco product among youth. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine and can emit a number of potentially toxic substances. They can also cause unintended injuries such as fires, explosions, and acute nicotine exposure. Though not all long-term health consequences of e-cigarette use are currently known, e-cigarette usage has been found to impair the function of the body’s blood vessels, which can increase the risk for cardiovascular and lung disease. For more information about the Community Health Profiles Data Initiative, please see the initiative homepage.

This report contains results from the latest survey of secondary school pupils in England in years 7 to 11 (mostly aged 11 to 15), focusing on smoking, drinking and drug use. It covers a range of topics including prevalence, habits, attitudes, and wellbeing. In 2023 the survey was administered online for the first time, instead of paper-based surveys as in previous years. This move online also meant that completion of the survey could be managed through teacher-led sessions, rather than being conducted by external interviewers. The 2023 survey also introduced additional questions relating to pupils wellbeing. These included how often the pupil felt lonely, felt left out and that they had no-one to talk to. Results of analysis covering these questions have been presented within parts of the report and associated data tables. The report includes this summary report showing key findings, excel tables with more detailed outcomes, technical appendices and a data quality statement. An anonymised record level file of the underlying data on which users can carry out their own analysis will be made available via the UK Data Service in early 2025 (see link below).

TwitterThis data table shows the percentage of tobacco retailer stores that sell electronic smoking devices (including e-cigarettes, other vapor devices or e-liquids) in 2013 and 2016 by county. Data for three city health departments (Berkeley, Long Beach and Pasadena) were analyzed separately, results for Alameda County include the city of Berkeley and results for Los Angeles County include the cities of Pasadena and Long Beach. Results were suppressed for items with a small sample size (n =< 5) and for results considered unreliable (coefficient of variation greater than or equal to 0.5). Cities or counties that conducted a census of tobacco retailers will not have a confidence interval due to the survey methodology.
The Healthy Stores for a Healthy Community (HSHC) marketing survey measured the availability of a range of unhealthy and healthy products, as well as marketing practices for tobacco, alcohol, food and beverage items, and condoms. The California Tobacco Control Program (CTCP) invited partners in the Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Branch at the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the Substance Use Disorders Program at the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), and the Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control Branch at CDPH to join the campaign and look at the retail environment from a more comprehensive perspective, as there were many local and state efforts examining one or more of these health issues in community stores. This collaboration is part of the state’s continued effort to address the burden of chronic disease and to better understand the role that stores could play in making communities healthier. In 2013, the 61 local lead agencies (LLAs) completed the HSHC survey in a total of 7,393 randomly selected stores that sell tobacco throughout the state of California. In 2016, the LLAs completed a follow-up survey in 7,152 randomly selected stores that sell tobacco statewide.

The single-use e-cigarettes market is poised for significant expansion, driven by a confluence of factors including evolving consumer preferences and ongoing product innovation. With an estimated market size of $5,000 million in 2025, the sector is projected to witness robust growth, exhibiting a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 15% through 2033. This upward trajectory is primarily fueled by the increasing demand for convenient, user-friendly vaping devices, particularly among younger demographics and former smokers seeking a less commitment-oriented entry into vaping. The inherent simplicity of disposable e-cigarettes, requiring no prior setup or recharging, positions them as an attractive alternative to traditional smoking and even other e-cigarette formats. Furthermore, a continuous stream of new flavor profiles and improved battery technologies by leading manufacturers such as VGOD, HQD, and PUFF BAR are enticing a broader consumer base, solidifying their appeal in both online and offline retail channels. Despite this promising outlook, the market faces certain restraints that could temper its growth. Heightened regulatory scrutiny across various regions, particularly concerning marketing practices and product content, poses a significant challenge. Governments worldwide are increasingly implementing stricter controls on e-cigarette sales, including age restrictions and potential flavor bans, which could limit market penetration and consumer access. Additionally, concerns regarding the environmental impact of disposable electronics and a growing push for sustainable alternatives could also influence consumer choices and necessitate a shift in manufacturing and disposal practices. The market is segmented into simulated and non-simulated e-cigarettes, with simulated variants currently dominating due to their closer resemblance to traditional tobacco products. However, as the market matures, advancements in non-simulated technology may offer alternative growth avenues. Key players like Altria Group, British American Tobacco, and Philip Morris International are actively investing in this segment, indicating a strategic pivot towards the burgeoning disposable e-cigarette market. This report offers an in-depth analysis of the global single-use e-cigarettes market, meticulously examining its dynamics from the historical period of 2019-2024, with the base year set at 2025. The forecast period extends from 2025 to 2033, providing a comprehensive outlook on market trajectories. The report delves into various facets of this rapidly evolving industry, presenting actionable insights for stakeholders.
