Per the Federal Geospatial Data Committee (FGDC), this theme is defined as the “boundaries that delineate geographic areas for uses such as governance and the general provision of services (e.g., states, American Indian reservations, counties, cities, towns, etc.), administration and/or for a specific purpose (e.g., congressional districts, school districts, fire districts, Alaska Native Regional Corporations, etc.), and/or provision of statistical data (census tracts, census blocks, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, etc.). Boundaries for these various types of geographic areas are either defined through a documented legal description or through criteria and guidelines. Other boundaries may include international limits, those of federal land ownership, the extent of administrative regions for various federal agencies, as well as the jurisdictional offshore limits of U.S. sovereignty. Boundaries associated solely with natural resources and/or cultural entities are excluded from this theme and are included in the appropriate subject themes.” For other NGDA Content: Esri Federal Datasets

Retirement Notice: This item is in mature support as of September 2023 and will be retired in December 2025. A new version of this item is available for your use. Esri recommends updating your maps and apps to use the new version. The USGS Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is the official inventory of public parks and other protected open space. The spatial data in PAD-US represents public lands held in trust by thousands of national, state and regional/local governments, as well as non-profit conservation organizations. Manager Name describes the land manager or administrative agency name standardized for the Nation (USFS, BLM, State Fish and Wildlife, State Parks and Rec, City, NGO, etc). DOD lands shown with outline. This map provides a general overview of land and water managers including management designations. This map displays locations from the PAD-US version 3.0 symbolized with the manager name field. This map includes 20 layers created from a feature layer and saved in the map that draw at scales of 1:1,000,000 and larger. A vector tile layer is used at scales smaller than 1:1,000,000. The feature layer was saved as individual layers to control drawing order in overlapping features. PAD-US is published by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Science Analytics and Synthesis (SAS), Gap Analysis Project (GAP). GAP produces data and tools that help meet critical national challenges such as biodiversity conservation, recreation, public health, climate change adaptation, and infrastructure investment. See the GAP webpage for more information about GAP and other GAP data including species and land cover.

    Description

Regulatory floodplains are extracted from FEMA or provided by consultants to the City. Non regulatory floodplains are provided by consultants, but their accuracy is not guaranteed.FEMA floodplains can either be amended by Letters of Map Revision (LOMR), or Physical Map Revisions (PMR). Historic data between 7/17/1978 and 5/31/2018 rely on PMRs to FIRM Panels; from 5/31/2018 onwards, FEMA exposed a web API that made tracking LOMRs much easier. This is why changes to the floodplain after this date look more "piecemeal" rather than entirely replaced. FEMA Floodplains are automatically updated by a scripted process on a monthly basis.High Hazard Zones are solely recognized by the city as areas which represent the highest risk to loss of life. More information can be found here. These zones are delineated by engineering firms on behalf of the city. They are updated manually by GIS staff.Non-Regulatory Floodplains are updated infrequently.Data: Records with Null INEFFDATEs are the current floodplains.FLOODZONEs beginning with "A" have a 1% chance of flooding (e.g. the 100 Year floodplain)FLOODZONEs equal to "X" are areas with a 0.2% chance of flooding (e.g. the 500 Year floodplain)FLOODZONEs equal to "HHZ" are the High Hazard ZonesFLOODWAYs equal to 1 are Conveyance Zones
