    This web map created by the Colorado Governor's Office of Information Technology GIS team, serves as a basemap specific to the state of Colorado. The basemap includes general layers such as counties, municipalities, roads, waterbodies, state parks, national forests, national wilderness areas, and trails.Layers:Layer descriptions and sources can be found below. Layers have been modified to only represent features within Colorado and are not up to date. Layers last updated February 23, 2023.     Description

    The dataset was generated to describe historical land-use and land-cover (LULC)for the northern Colorado urban Front Range (which includes the cities of Boulder, Fort Collins, Greeley, and Denver) for an area covering approximately 1,023,660 hectares. The Front Range urban landscape is diverse and interspersed with highly productive agriculture as well as natural land cover types including evergreen forest in the Rocky Mountain foothills and Great Plains grassland. To understand the dynamics of urban growth, raster maps were created at a 1-meter resolution for each of four time steps, nominally 1937, 1957, 1977, and 1997. In total, 8 to 38 LULC classes were identified using manual interpretation techniques, aerial photographs, historical maps, and other available information. The maps provide high resolution spatial data for understanding the historical progression of urbanization and will allow further analysis of the effects of urban growth on social and ecological systems.

    The Digital Geologic-GIS Map of the Northern Elk Springs North Quadrangles, Colorado is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) an ESRI file geodatabase (elkn_geology.gdb), and a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro 3.X map file (.mapx) file (elkn_geology.mapx) and individual Pro 3.X layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer). Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI shapefile format. Contact Stephanie O'Meara (see contact information below) to acquire the GIS data in these GIS data formats. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) a readme file (dino_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (dino_geology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (elkn_geology_metadata_faq.pdf).     This digital map shows the areal extent of surficial deposits and rock stratigraphic units (formations) as compiled by Trimble and Machette from 1973 to 1977 and published in 1979 under the Front Range Urban Corridor Geology Program. Trimble and Machette compiled their geologic map from published geologic maps and unpublished geologic mapping having varied map unit schemes. A convenient feature of the compiled map is its uniform classification of geologic units that mostly matches those of companion maps to the north (USGS I-855-G) and to the south (USGS I-857-F). Published as a color paper map, the Trimble and Machette map was intended for land-use planning in the Front Range Urban Corridor. This map recently (1997-1999) was digitized under the USGS Front Range Infrastructure Resources Project.     Census ZIP Code Tabulation Areas This feature layer, utilizing National Geospatial Data Asset (NGDA) data from the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB), displays ZIP Code Tabulation Areas in the United States. Per the USCB, “ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) are approximate area representations of U.S. Postal Service (USPS) ZIP Code service areas that the Census Bureau creates to present statistical data for each decennial census. Data users should not use ZCTAs to identify the official USPS ZIP Code for mail delivery.     Description

    Fifty-three types of surficial geologic deposits and residual materials of Quaternary age are described in a pamphlet and located on a map of the greater Pueblo area, in part of the Front Range, in the Wet and Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and on the plains east of Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Deposits formed by landslides, wind, and glaciers, as well as colluvium, residuum, alluvium, and others are described in terms of predominant grain size, mineral or rock composition (e.g., gypsiferous, calcareous, granitic, andesitic), thickness, and other physical characteristics. Origins and ages of the deposits and geologic hazards related to them are noted. Many lines drawn between units on our map were placed by generalizing contacts on published maps. However, in 1997-1999 we mapped new boundaries as well. The map was projected to the UTM projection. This large map area extends from near Salida (on the west edge), eastward about 107 mi (172 km), and from Antero Reservoir and Woodland Park on the north edge to near Colorado City at the south edge (68 mi; 109 km).

    Description

    We describe historical land-use and land-cover (LULC) maps for the northern Colorado urban Front Range. The Front Range urban landscape is diverse and interspersed with highly productive agriculture, as well as natural land cover types including evergreen forest in the Rocky Mountain foothills and Great Plains grassland. To understand the dynamics of urban growth, raster maps were created at a 1-meter resolution for each of four time steps, nominally 1937, 1957, 1977, and 1997. In total, 38 detailed LULC classes were identified using manual interpretation techniques, aerial photographs, historical maps, and other available information. The maps provide high-resolution spatial data for understanding the historical progression of urbanization and will allow further analysis of the effects of urban growth on social and ecological systems.

    Background Despite the infrequency of storms, the City of Colorado Springs Streets Division must be prepared for minor and major snowstorms from September through May. The City's Streets Division is responsible for approximately 6,480 lane miles of roadway, extending over a 202 square mile area. While average annual snowfall stands at 42 inches, snow can pile up quickly, at varying rates throughout the City. Elevation and wind can compound accumulation, causing an immediate impact on the City's mobility. Hence, the need for safe and passable streets is a priority for the Streets Division.Route TypePrimary Routes, which are multi-lane roads with large volumes of traffic or hospital access, are treated first. Once the primary routes are passable, snow crews move on to Secondary Routes, which includes school access and collector streets that serve as the main connections between neighborhoods and primary roads. If there is continuous snowfall, the Primary Routes may have to be plowed more than once, which will delay the response on secondary streets.Street Treatments The City uses three materials on City streets. The first material is called "anti-skid" and is used on most snow routes. Anti-skid can contain up to 20 percent salt, and is used to aid in vehicle traction. The second material is used on many of the City's thoroughfares and is called "IceSlicer." This material is a de-icer and will lower the freezing temperature of water. IceSlicer will work down to around 10 degrees. The third material is “APEX” and is a liquid. It is applied to the roadway before a storm or right as snow begins to fall.
