    This web map created by the Colorado Governor's Office of Information Technology GIS team, serves as a basemap specific to the state of Colorado. The basemap includes general layers such as counties, municipalities, roads, waterbodies, state parks, national forests, national wilderness areas, and trails.Layers:Layer descriptions and sources can be found below. Layers have been modified to only represent features within Colorado and are not up to date. Layers last updated February 23, 2023.     Description

    This data set depicts federal lands having restrictions on access or activities -- that is, lands mangaed by the National Park Service, Defense Department, or Energy Department -- in western North America. The data set was created by reformatting and merging state- and province-based ownership data layers originally acquired from diverse sources (including state GAP programs, USBLM state offices and other sources). For each original dataset 3 additional fields, "Pub_Pvt", "CA_OWN", and "SOURCE" were added and populated based on the specific ownership information contained in the source data. The original coverages were then merged based on the "CA_OWN" field. Finally, NPS, DOD, and DOE lands were selected out of the ownership layer. All work was completed in AcMap 8.3. This product and all source data are available online from SAGEMAP: http://sagemap.wr.usgs.gov.

    Description

    The USGS Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is the nation's inventory of protected areas, including public open space and voluntarily provided, private protected areas, identified as an A-16 National Geospatial Data Asset in the Cadastral Theme (http://www.fgdc.gov/ngda-reports/NGDA_Datasets.html). PAD-US is an ongoing project with several published versions of a spatial database of areas dedicated to the preservation of biological diversity, and other natural, recreational or cultural uses, managed for these purposes through legal or other effective means. The geodatabase maps and describes public open space and other protected areas. Most areas are public lands owned in fee; however, long-term easements, leases, and agreements or administrative designations documented in agency management plans may be included. The PAD-US database strives to be a complete “best available” inventory of protected areas (lands and waters) including data provided by managing agencies and organizations. The dataset is built in collaboration with several partners and data providers (http://gapanalysis.usgs.gov/padus/stewards/). See Supplemental Information Section of this metadata record for more information on partnerships and links to major partner organizations. As this dataset is a compilation of many data sets; data completeness, accuracy, and scale may vary. Federal and state data are generally complete, while local government and private protected area coverage is about 50% complete, and depends on data management capacity in the state. For completeness estimates by state: http://www.protectedlands.net/partners. As the federal and state data are reasonably complete; focus is shifting to completing the inventory of local gov and voluntarily provided, private protected areas. The PAD-US geodatabase contains over twenty-five attributes and four feature classes to support data management, queries, web mapping services and analyses: Marine Protected Areas (MPA), Fee, Easements and Combined. The data contained in the MPA Feature class are provided directly by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Marine Protected Areas Center (MPA, http://marineprotectedareas.noaa.gov ) tracking the National Marine Protected Areas System. The Easements feature class contains data provided directly from the National Conservation Easement Database (NCED, http://conservationeasement.us ) The MPA and Easement feature classes contain some attributes unique to the sole source databases tracking them (e.g. Easement Holder Name from NCED, Protection Level from NOAA MPA Inventory). The "Combined" feature class integrates all fee, easement and MPA features as the best available national inventory of protected areas in the standard PAD-US framework. In addition to geographic boundaries, PAD-US describes the protection mechanism category (e.g. fee, easement, designation, other), owner and managing agency, designation type, unit name, area, public access and state name in a suite of standardized fields. An informative set of references (i.e. Aggregator Source, GIS Source, GIS Source Date) and "local" or source data fields provide a transparent link between standardized PAD-US fields and information from authoritative data sources. The areas in PAD-US are also assigned conservation measures that assess management intent to permanently protect biological diversity: the nationally relevant "GAP Status Code" and global "IUCN Category" standard. A wealth of attributes facilitates a wide variety of data analyses and creates a context for data to be used at local, regional, state, national and international scales.     River Reach Habitat Quality (RFC 2008)

    This layer was digitized in 2015 for the HRS Board using data from the 2008 State of the Watershed Report. This layer shows the quality of habitat surveyed by Delia Malone on selected reaches in the Roaring Fork Watershed. This data is intended as a reference for future research and planning, site specific conditions may vary. Strahler Steam Order numbers are also given for each river reach.

    River Watch Sites

    This layer was digitized in 2015 for the HRS Board using data from the Roaring Fork Conservancy. The layer shows River Watch sites where the RFC and partner organizations monitor stream health indicators. Active sites are marked with an “x” in the popup.     Surface Water Realtime (USGS, CDSS)

    This layer shows realtime telemetry gauges maintained by the United States Geological Survey and the Colorado Decision Support System. Click on the icon and then click on “more info” to link to the gauge website. This layer can be used to monitor stream flows and diversion tunnel flows (cfs). Please see the USGS and CDSS websites for more information.

    Parcel Boundary (Pitkin County GIS 2015)

    This layer identifies property boundaries in Pitkin County. The Parcel geometry is created by reading legal descriptions through Plats, Surveys, Deeds, and CAD drawing files. Approximately 15% of land in Pitkin County is privately held, which is represented in this layer. Federal lands are shown in the Forest Lands layer.     Recreation Easement (Pitkin County GIS 2015)

    Federal Land Boundary (Pitkin County GIS 2015)The parcel layer and Forest (or Federal Land) layer are independently maintained layers.     Range Improvements are man-made or man-caused features on the landscape designed and implemented for the purpose of improving the available forage, managing the season of use or use patterns and enhancing the overall rangeland health of areas available for domestic livestock use. Range improvements may occur on private, state, and public lands under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and/or other federal or state agencies. On public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), permittees or lessees (henceforth, “operators”) may be required to install range improvements to meet the terms and conditions of their permits or leases. Often the BLM, operators, and other interested parties work together and jointly contribute to construction.Range improvements are authorized physical modifications or treatment which are designed to improve production of forage; change vegetation composition; control patterns of use; provide water; stabilize soil and water conditions; restore, protect, and improve the conditions of the rangeland ecosystems to benefit livestock, wild horses and burros, and fish and wildlife. They include, but are not limited to, structures, treatment projects and use of mechanical devices or modifications achieved through mechanical means. Range Improvements. There are two kinds of range improvements: nonstructural and structural. Seeding or prescribed burns are examples of nonstructural range improvements. Fences or facilities such as wells or water pipelines are examples of structural improvements. Many structural improvements are considered permanent, as they are not easily removed from the land. This data standard will only relate to structural range improvements features as GIS and attribute data related to almost all non-structural range improvements is stored in other national data standard datasets (e.g. NISIMS, VTRT, NFPORS). Range improvement data is also available in the Range Improvement System (RIPS), a BLM database used for tracking the establishment and maintenance of range improvments. RIPS is the database of record and contains the data to be used for budgetary and workload planning. This data set shall be comprised of a spatial display of the data in RIPS. The record unique identifier within the RIPS database (RIPS number) will be added to GIS features in this data standard to link between spatial depictions of range improvements features to their corresponding RIPS records. Wherever possible RIPS data shall be used to populate this data set.

    Description

    This dataset consists of a digital geologic map for the state of Colorado. This geologic map was prepared as a part of a study of digital methods and techniques as applied to complex geologic maps. The geologic map was digitized from the original scribe sheets used to prepare the published Geologic Map of Colorado (Tweto 1979). Consequently the digital version is at 1:500,000 scale using the Lambert Conformal Conic map projection parameters of the state base map. Stable base contact prints of the scribe sheets were scanned on a Tektronix 4991 digital scanner. The scanner automatically converts the scanned image to an ASCII vector format. These vectors were transferred to a VAX minicomputer, where they were then loaded into ARC/INFO. Each vector and polygon was given attributes derived from the original 1979 geologic map. To rebuild the database, copy the contents of the following directory to your Arc/Info platform:

    Description

    These data are part of a larger USGS project to develop an updated geospatial database of mines, mineral deposits and mineral regions in the United States. Mine and prospect-related symbols, such as those used to represent prospect pits, mines, adits, dumps, tailings, etc., hereafter referred to as “mine” symbols or features, are currently being digitized on a state-by-state basis from the 7.5-minute (1:24,000-scale) and the 15-minute (1:48,000 and 1:62,500-scale) archive of the USGS Historical Topographic Maps Collection, or acquired from available databases (California and Nevada, 1:24,000-scale only). Compilation of these features is the first phase in capturing accurate locations and general information about features related to mineral resource exploration and extraction across the U.S. To date, the compilation of 500,000-plus point and polygon mine symbols from approximately 67,000 maps of 22 western states has been completed: Arizona (AZ), Arkansas (AR), California (CA), Colorado (CO), Idaho (ID), Iowa (IA), Kansas (KS), Louisiana (LA), Minnesota (MN), Missouri (MO), Montana (MT), North Dakota (ND), Nebraska (NE), New Mexico (NM), Nevada (NV), Oklahoma (OK), Oregon (OR), South Dakota (SD), Texas (TX), Utah (UT), Washington (WA), and Wyoming (WY). The process renders not only a more complete picture of exploration and mining in the western U.S., but an approximate time line of when these activities occurred. The data may be used for land use planning, assessing abandoned mine lands and mine-related environmental impacts, assessing the value of mineral resources from Federal, State and private lands, and mapping mineralized areas and systems for input into the land management process. The data are presented as three groups of layers based on the scale of the source maps. No reconciliation between the data groups was done.

    The City Engineering Quarter Section Map Index contains information regarding City Engineering quarter section numbers and Public Land Survey System (PLSS) information for each quarter section in the City and County of Denver, as well as a few of the surrounding section quarters. For each quarter section of the PLSS in the City and County of Denver, the City Engineering (later the City Surveyor's office) developed and maintained a linen sheet depicting subdivision, lot, ordinance, and easement data in that quarter section. Using Broadway and Colfax Avenue as the dividing lines, the CCD is broken into four quadrants, and the quarter sections for each quadrant are numbered beginning with 1. NOTE: Maintenance of these quarter section sheets was discontinued after 1996 due to the development of the CCD GIS.
