    United States Census Bureauhttp://census.gov/
    Description

The 119th Congressional Districts dataset reflects boundaries from January 03, 2025 from the United States Census Bureau (USCB), and the attributes are updated every Sunday from the United States House of Representatives and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Information for each member of Congress is appended to the Census Congressional District shapefile using information from the Office of the Clerk, U.S. House of Representatives' website https://clerk.house.gov/xml/lists/MemberData.xml and its corresponding XML file. Congressional districts are the 435 areas from which people are elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. This dataset also includes 9 geographies for non-voting at large delegate districts, resident commissioner districts, and congressional districts that are not defined. After the apportionment of congressional seats among the states based on census population counts, each state is responsible for establishing congressional districts for the purpose of electing representatives. Each congressional district is to be as equal in population to all other congressional districts in a state as practicable. The 119th Congress is seated from January 3, 2025 through January 3, 2027. In Connecticut, Illinois, and New Hampshire, the Redistricting Data Program (RDP) participant did not define the CDs to cover all of the state or state equivalent area. In these areas with no CDs defined, the code "ZZ" has been assigned, which is treated as a single CD for purposes of data presentation. The TIGER/Line shapefiles for the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas (American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) each contain a single record for the non-voting delegate district in these areas. The boundaries of all other congressional districts reflect information provided to the Census Bureau by the states by May 31, 2024. A data dictionary, or other source of attribute information, is accessible at https://doi.org/10.21949/1529006

    Description

These data depict the 117th Congressional Districts and their representatives for the United States. Congressional districts are the 435 areas from which members are elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. After the apportionment of congressional seats among the states, which is based on decennial census population counts, each state with multiple seats is responsible for establishing congressional districts for the purpose of electing representatives. Each congressional district is to be as equal in population to all other congressional districts in a state as practicable. The boundaries and numbers shown for the congressional districts are those specified in the state laws or court orders establishing the districts within each state.

    Description

The CongDist_Gen feature class is a generalized spatial representation of the United States Congressional Districts of the 118th Congress. The data was generalized using the Esri Generalize polygon function. The CongDist feature class is a US Forest Service Standard Reference Dataset and is the preferred spatial representation of US Congressional Districts. This feature class has been modified and should only be used for cartographic purposes at small scales. The purpose of the generalized CongDist_Gen dataset is to improve map display and drawing performance in both ArcGIS applications and ArcGIS Server map services. To satisfy both performance improvement and geometry representation, the following parameters and geoprocessing method were used. Simplify the input features using the Douglas-Peucker simplification algorithm with a specified maximum offset tolerance of 375 meters. The output features will contain a subset of the original input vertices. Min scale refers to what scale the layer turns off when zooming out. Max scale refers to the scale the layer turns off at when zooming in. Min scale: 0, no minimum scale set, Max Scale: 1:4622325.

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) (NTAD 2014) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Congressional Districts are the 435 areas from which people are elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. After the apportionment of congressional seats among the States based on census population counts, each State is responsible for establishing congressional districts for the purpose of electing representatives. Each congressional district is to be as equal in population to all other congressional districts in a State as practicable. The congressional districts for the 113th Congress (January 2013 to 2015) are the first Congressional Districts based on 2010 Census data. The boundaries of all other congressional districts are provided to the Census Bureau through the Redistricting Data Program (RDP). These data are a subset of a larger dataset published by the organization listed in the credits. Great Smoky Mountains National Park makes these data available in this form such that users can: effectively manipulate data for park mapping activities that do not require the acquisition of a large, nation-wide data set; alter symbology and rendering parameters natively; restrict analysis of geospatial data to an extent that coincides with the park footprint. The corresponding Integration of Resource Management Applications (IRMA) NPS Data Store reference is Great Smoky Mountains National Park Congressional Districts.

The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The 118th Congress is seated from January 2023 through December 2024. The boundaries of all other congressional districts reflect information provided to the Census Bureau by the states by August 31, 2022.

State Legislative Districts - Lower HousesThis feature layer, utilizing National Geospatial Data Asset (NGDA) data from the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB), displays State Legislative Districts (SLDs) in the lower houses of state legislatures in the United States. According to the USCB, "SLDs are the areas from which members are elected to state legislatures. They embody the upper (senate) and lower (house) chambers of a state legislature. Nebraska has a unicameral legislature and the District of Columbia has a single council, both of which the Census Bureau treats as upper-chamber legislative areas for data presentation; there are no data by lower houses for either Nebraska or the District of Columbia".Data currency: This cached Esri federal service is checked weekly for updates from its enterprise federal source (2018 State Legislative Districts - Lower) and will support mapping, analysis, data exports and OGC API – Feature access.Data.gov: TIGER/Line Shapefile, 2019, Series Information for the State Legislative District (SLD) Lower Chamber State-based ShapefileGeoplatform: TIGER/Line Shapefile, 2019, Series Information for the State Legislative District (SLD) Lower Chamber State-based ShapefileFor more information, please visit: 2018 State Legislative District Reference MapsFor feedback please contact: Esri_US_Federal_Data@esri.comThumbnail image courtesy of: Mark GoebelNGDA Data SetThis data set is part of the NGDA Governmental Units, and Administrative and Statistical Boundaries Theme Community. Description

The congressional district profiles are part of Advocacy’s state profile series, which provides user-friendly snapshots of national, state, and congressional district small business statistics. The district profiles focus on the impact of small employers. Each profile provides the district’s total number of small employers and their industry breakout, plus the number of people employed and payroll expended. The profiles also show the total number of self-employed workers and a map showing how they are distributed in the district.
