U.S. Census Block GroupsThis feature layer, utilizing National Geospatial Data Asset (NGDA) data from the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB), displays Census block groups in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Per the USCB, "Block Groups (BGs) are clusters of blocks within the same census tract. Each census tract contains at least one BG, and BGs are uniquely numbered within census tracts. BGs have a valid code range of 0 through 9. BGs have the same first digit of their 4-digit census block number from the same decennial census. BGs coded 0 are intended to only include water area, no land area, and they are generally in territorial seas, coastal water, and Great Lakes water areas. Block groups generally contain between 600 and 3,000 people. A BG usually covers a contiguous area but never crosses county or census tract boundaries. The Census Planning Database is produced by the U.S. Census Bureau. It assembles a range of housing, demographic, socioeconomic, and census operational data that can be used for survey and census planning.

The Planning Database uses selected Census and selected 2012-2016 American Community Survey (ACS) estimates. In addition to variables extracted from the census and ACS databases, operational variables include the 2010 Census Mail Return Rate for each block group and tract.

This dataset is a subset of the 2018 Census Planning Database, filtered for the state of Connecticut, and including variables relating to hard to count populations. This dataset also includes two variables from the Federal Communications Commission dataset "Residential Fixed Internet Access Service Connections per 1000 Households by Census Tract." Number of households by type of internet connection by Small Area. (Census 2022 Theme 15 Table 2 )Census 2022 table 15.2 is number of households with types of internet connection. Attributes include a breakdown of households by access to internet. Census 2022 theme 15 is Motor Car Availability and Internet Access. Census Small Areas are the lowest level of geography for the dissemination of Census data and typically contain between 50 and 200 dwellings. They are generally comprised of complete neighbourhoods or townlands and they nest within CSO Electoral Divisions. Census 2022 Small Areas have been redrawn to ensure they remain consistent with the principle of data protection and are relatively comparable in size. This redraw was necessary following changes in population size and distribution between 2016 and 2022 and was done by the CSO with support from Tailte Éireann. Small Areas were first published for Census 2011 following work undertaken by the National Institute of Regional and Spatial Analysis (NIRSA) on behalf of Tailte Éireann and in consultation with the CSO. The TIGER/Line Files are shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) that are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line File is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Census Blocks are statistical areas bounded on all sides by visible features, such as streets, roads, streams, and railroad tracks, and/or by nonvisible boundaries such as city, town, township, and county limits, and short line-of-sight extensions of streets and roads. Census blocks are relatively small in area; for example, a block in a city bounded by streets. However, census blocks in remote areas are often large and irregular and may even be many square miles in area. A common misunderstanding is that data users think census blocks are used geographically to build all other census geographic areas, rather all other census geographic areas are updated and then used as the primary constraints, along with roads and water features, to delineate the tabulation blocks. This data was compiled by the Washington Military Department on June 27, 2019. The Limited English Proficiency (LEP) information is summarized at the county level as well as at the census track/ county subdivision layer level. County level data was derived from the 2016 Office of Financial Management (OFM) study which provided an estimate of population with limited English proficiency at the state and county levels. The census tract data are derived from the 2015 census update and indicates language spoken at home and ability to speak English for those over five years old.
