    Description

Volatile crude oil prices and economic uncertainty have defined the performance of Canadian gas stations with convenience stores. Consumer demand declined with a slump in travel caused by the pandemic. Starting in 2021, the recovery of the global economy led to a massive surge in the world price of crude oil. Rising oil prices increased revenue as prices were passed down to consumers. High crude oil prices and improving economic conditions have boosted sales volumes. In 2023, tempering crude oil prices dragged down sales at the pump again, with revenue contracting 1.0%. Revenue for gas stations with convenience stores is expected to drop at a CAGR of 0.3% to $28.3 billion through the end of 2025, including a dip of 0.7% in 2025 alone as the consumer confidence index and the world price of crude oil weaken. The industry has expanded as more gas stations added convenience stores because of the considerably higher profit gained from the sale of merchandise. Still, crude oil prices drive profitability as upstream markets pass down costs to gas stations. The world price of crude oil has fluctuated wildly, first because of the pandemic and, more recently, because of global geopolitical challenges like Russia's invasion of Ukraine. These events have ultimately influenced the global supply of crude oil, causing prices to largely remain elevated. These wild swings have contributed to a slump in profitability for gas stations with convenience stores. The world price of crude oil is expected to expand at a CAGR of 11.7% through the end of 2025. Consumers have already reduced their dependence on fossil fuels by relying on new fuel-efficient vehicles in response to rising environmental concerns. The Canadian government has initiated programs to incentivize hybrid and electric vehicle sales. This threat to the overall viability of the industry will remain strong moving forward. Still, rising incomes drive general economic growth, while consumer spending and trade activity will lift fuel sales. The growing emphasis on convenience store sales will help buoy the industry if volatility in fuel prices continues. Revenue for gas stations with convenience stores is expected to climb at a CAGR of 0.1% to $28.4 billion through the end of 2030.

    Description

The Canadian Location-Based Services (LBS) market is experiencing robust growth, driven by increasing smartphone penetration, the proliferation of GPS-enabled devices, and the expanding adoption of location-based applications across various sectors. The market's Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 12.05% from 2019 to 2024 suggests a significant expansion, indicating a substantial market opportunity. Key drivers include the increasing demand for enhanced navigation and mapping solutions in transportation and logistics, the growing need for real-time location tracking in healthcare and emergency services, and the expanding use of LBS in marketing and advertising for targeted campaigns. The market is segmented by component (hardware, software, services), location (indoor, outdoor), application (mapping & navigation, business intelligence & analytics, location-based advertising, social networking, etc.), and end-user (transportation & logistics, IT & telecom, healthcare, government, etc.). While precise market size figures for Canada aren't provided, considering the global market trends and a conservative estimate based on the given CAGR, the Canadian LBS market likely reached a value in the hundreds of millions of dollars by 2024, and is projected to continue this upward trajectory throughout the forecast period (2025-2033). The competitive landscape is characterized by a mix of established technology giants like Cisco, IBM, and Google, alongside specialized LBS providers such as Esri and Zebra Technologies. These companies are constantly innovating to meet the evolving demands of the market, with a focus on improving accuracy, enhancing data analytics capabilities, and developing integrated solutions. The increasing adoption of cloud-based LBS solutions, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for location-based insights, and the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) are shaping future market trends. However, concerns about data privacy and security remain a key restraint, requiring robust regulatory frameworks and stringent data protection measures to ensure consumer trust and confidence. The continued growth of the Canadian LBS market is highly dependent on sustained technological advancements, government support for digital infrastructure, and addressing these privacy and security challenges. Recent developments include: May 2024 - Google revealed the launch of Android's Emergency Location Service in Canada, aiming to decrease response times by assisting emergency staff in locating individuals in need more quickly. The introduction of the service in Canada coincides with efforts by the telecommunications industry, regulators, and tech companies to update outdated emergency systems to gather additional information in various formats from Canadians in need., January 2024 - SuperCom, a worldwide supplier of secure solutions for the e-Government, IoT, and Cybersecurity industries, is excited to declare a recent project victory with a well-known Canadian partner in the tracking solutions field. This new project is a significant step in SuperCom's progression, continuing their track record of delivering high-quality services and technologies. It signifies a shift in their partnership with this company, moving from successful collaboration in RF-based tracking technology to adoption of GPS technologies.. Key drivers for this market are: Increasing adoption of Smart Phones, Social Media, and Easy Availability of GPS Technology is Expected to Drive the Market Growth, Technological Advancements Aided by Emergence of BLE and UWB for Indoor Services. Potential restraints include: Increasing adoption of Smart Phones, Social Media, and Easy Availability of GPS Technology is Expected to Drive the Market Growth, Technological Advancements Aided by Emergence of BLE and UWB for Indoor Services. Description

Despite experiencing steady growth along with the domestic economy over the past five years, Canada's Coffee and Snack Shops industry faced significant turbulence. To the industry's benefit, the spike in global coffee prices has partially boosted industry revenue. Due to a low pandemic base year, industry revenue is projected to rise at an annualized rate of 4.8% to $6.3 billion over the five years to 2025, including a 3.0% increase in 2025 alone. Conversely, soaring operational costs, especially wages and rent, have pressured industry profit, falling to an expected 5.2% of revenue in the same year. Consumer habits have played a significant role in the industry's development over the past five years. For example, increased spending on breakfast items has given the industry a much-needed boost, setting it apart from the otherwise sluggish growth of the food service sector. To draw customers and stay competitive, coffee shops have been forced to diversify their menus, adding breakfast sandwiches and standalone fruit and granola cups. This is in response to fast food chains like McDonald's and Tim Hortons expanding into the specialty coffee market. Moreover, major player Starbucks has emphasized drive-thru and mobile pick-up services, which cater to the convenience of customers and expand profit opportunities. Over the next five years, the industry is likely to continue evolving. Coffee stores may introduce new high-margin products such as matcha and snacks, iced coffee drinks, breakfast items and wraps. As many customers are accustomed to remote working, a return to office mandate by both public and private sectors will inject a large influx of customers into coffee and snack shops, boosting future growth. As consumer confidence is expected to strengthen, discretionary spending on coffee and snacks rises. As a result, industry revenue is estimated to grow at an annualized rate of 1.9%, reaching $6.9 billion over the five years to 2030.

    Description

Optometrists have experienced uncharacteristic volatility in recent years. Optometry services' non-discretionary and specialized nature typically shields practitioners from substantial annual revenue fluctuations; however, optometrists have become increasingly reliant on unspecialized, discretionary product sales, like glasses frames and contact lenses. Consumer spending on such products is highly contingent on perceptions of the economy, which ebbed and flowed, causing sales to similarly swing. External retailers offer these discretionary products at lower prices and with the convenience of online ordering, resulting in swelling price-based competition, something many optometrists are unfamiliar with. As a result, revenue has been growing at a CAGR of 0.5% and is expected to reach $1.9 billion in 2023, when it will slump 1.7%. At different times, provincial governments have banned the sale of prescription eyewear by retailers unaffiliated with an optometry practice. Optometrists, alongside industry associations, regularly issue warnings against purchasing such products from external retailers. Regardless, consumers continue such practices, forcing optometrists to place greater emphasis on hiring skilled front-end sales personnel. In response, wage costs are spiking and those with formerly small staffs are bringing on additional workers. Profit, already weekend by the pandemic, continues its drudge downward, though it remains remarkably high on average. Over the next five years, optometrists will benefit from rising consumer confidence as the economic landscape settles and patients fully return to regular appointments. Increasing disposable income spells good news for optometrists in response to the growing importance of discretionary product sales. The same positive macroeconomic factors will benefit external retailers, too; however, optometrists will capitalize on their expertise, proximity to their sales floors and higher-end frames and lens options to regain sales lost to external competitors. Over the next five years, revenue is forecast to swell at a CAGR of 4.4%, reaching $2.4 billion in 2028.

    Description

Over the past five years, the Caterers industry in Canada has experienced revenue declines because of varying economic factors. Despite Canada's rising disposable income, declining marriage rates and fallen business confidence have collectively hampered demand for catering services. Further, high inflation over the past five years has forced businesses to tighten their pockets, while lower consumer confidence levels result in fewer private events. The pandemic and resulting restrictions drastically changed the industry’s landscape. Caterers grappled with new regulations and compressed operation scales, which hit revenues, dipping by an annualized 6.7% to $3.1 billion over the five years to 2024. Despite these challenges, an upward trend is foreseen, with a 4.0% rise in 2024 alone. Over the years, catering services have evolved in response to changing preferences. Caterers have shifted their focus to healthier options and organic and locally sourced produce and expanded their service scope to include event consulting and planning. Despite these adaptations, a cost surge led to declining industry profit. Looking ahead, signs for the Caterers industry are promising, with a projected recovery phase in the forecast owing to the expected growth in consumer spending and confidence. The next five years could see the industry bounce back, with revenues growing at an annual rate of 3.4%, potentially reaching $3.7 billion by 2029. This growth hinges on caterers's ability to adapt and broaden their services, from floral arrangements to entertainment, redefining the industry to meet growing client demands.
