The information provided is derived from Environment Southland's Selected Land Use Sites (SLUS) register only and is made available to you under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987. Environment Southland has made every effort to ensure the accuracy of the location, extent, and relevant information about each HAIL activity on the register, however this information is subject to change as new information is made available to ES. This data set is live and updated daily.Additional records for your site may be held by the territorial authority (Gore District Council, Invercargill City Council, or Southland District Council); Compliance with R6.2 of the Resource Management (National Environmental Standard for Assessing and Managing Contaminants in Soil to Protect Human Health) Regulations 2011 (NES) requires that territorial authority records are searched in addition to the SLUS register. We cannot accept any liability arising from the absence of information from our registers and if your site is not on the SLUS register this does not mean that a HAIL activity has not occurred there. We advise clients to engage the services of a suitably qualified and experienced contaminated land specialist where uncertainty exists.Check our Contaminated Land page for more information.

TwitterThe Northland Regional Council Selected Land-use Register (SLR) is a list of selected land-use sites (SLU sites) that have been used for any activity included in the Ministry for the Environment’s Hazardous Activities and Industries List (HAIL).
The HAIL is a compilation of activities and industries that have the potential to result in soil contamination.
The SLR provides a history of land-use for any given property where a HAIL activity has been undertaken (whether current or historical) and not all sites recorded on the SLR are contaminated. The SLR is also not a comprehensive list of all sites that have a HAIL land-use history, it is a live record and therefore continually being updated.
The SLR is currently under review as part of a national consistent data project. Site classifications will be updated and locations will be changing from points to polygons.
The data is updated nightly to incorporate any changes or additions by staff and NRC welcomes dialogue with customers regarding information that we have or that they may have which will fill in any data gaps.
If you have any queries regarding the SLR, or wish to provide any information regarding a site, please contact the contaminated land team at contamination@nrc.govt.nz
Definitions for site classifications can be found here.

The data represents the sites that have been officially determined as 'Contaminated Land' in Cornwall, under Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Sites are only determined as Contaminated Land after an extensive site investigation and risk assessment process which provides evidence to show that there is the possibility of significant harm or pollution being caused. Contaminated land is defined legally as land where substances could cause: significant harm to people or protected species significant pollution of surface waters or groundwater. This mapping layer does not cover sites which may be potentially contaminated. A contaminated land register is held and maintained as prescribed by part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The register is intended to act as a full and permanent record of the regulatory action taken by the enforcement authority in relation to the remediation of contaminated land. In addition to the Contaminated Land Register, there are formal 'Records of Determination' which can be found on Cornwall Councils website

TwitterUnder the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Local Authorities have a duty to keep a Contaminated Land Register. This contains the details of land that has been remediated under this legislation. The map layer contains the sites that are on this register

The GTC System makes it possible to compile information on land files. contaminated by industrial and commercial activities or by spills accidental. This is not an exhaustive inventory, but a compilation of cases brought to the attention of the Ministry. It also includes information on land that is now rehabilitated. The thematic layers of contaminated land allow locate each georeferenced intervention site in the Operations Management Assistance System (SAGO) to which at least one contaminated land sheet is associated.**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**

An area may be labelled as contaminated land if it has the potential to cause significant harm due to substances in, on or under the land, or where there is likely to be pollution of controlled water. The harm may be to human health, plants, property, crops, livestock, ecological systems or ancient monuments and archaeological sites. The situation in Cheltenham - Some land within the borough may be contaminated due to past industrial use. As part of its contaminated land inspection strategy, the council is in the process of inspecting sites to see if they present an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. Where significant harm has been proven or there is a possibility of significant harm, such land is formally determined as contaminated land. The council maintains a public register of land that has been formally determined as contaminated land.

The Planning and Development Act 2007 requires the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to keep a register of contaminated sites. Sites are included on the register if the EPA requests a review of an assessment of contaminated land by an approved contaminated land auditor or they have received notification of the need for an audit from an approved auditor.

In the report on suspected land registers and contaminated sites, the Federal Environment Agency provides an overview of how many old deposits and sites in Austria are recorded. The Altlast Remediation Act provides that the areas covered are processed. The main tasks of the processing are the investigation of suspected areas and the assessment of the environmental hazard that arises or may arise from old deposits and old sites. The report provides information on the processing status of the areas covered and on the progress made in the remediation of contaminated sites throughout Germany and in the individual Länder. The report is updated annually and is based on all data on old deposits and sites available to the Federal Environment Agency on 1 January 2013.

Selected Land Use Register (SLUR) - Hazardous Activities and Industries List (HAIL)The Hawkes Bay Regional Councils Selected Land Use Register (SLUR) holds information about sites that have been used historically, or are currently used for activities, which have the potential to have caused contamination from hazardous substance use, storage or disposal. The SLUR statement indicates the location of the land parcel(s) you enquired about and provides information regarding any listed sites that intersect your parcel. If one of the activities listed in the Hazardous Activities and Industries List is occurring, or has occurred in the past, on a piece of land, then it is considered a ‘HAIL’ site. If one of the activities listed in the Hazardous Activities and Industries List is occurring, or has occurred in the past, on a piece of land, then it is considered a ‘HAIL’ site. Hail sites are categorised differently depending on what we know about the site;· Verified HAIL - Managed for Land Use: The site has been investigated. Results show that there are hazardous substances present at the site in concentrations that have the potential to cause adverse effects or risks to people and/or the environment. However, these risks are considered managed because. The nature of the use of the site prevents human and/or ecological exposure to the risks; and/or the land has been altered in some way and/or restrictions have been placed on the way it is used which prevent human and/or ecological exposure to the risks. Please note that if a property is not currently entered on the Register, it does not mean that an activity with the potential to cause contamination has never occurred or is not currently occurring there. The Register is not complete, and new sites are regularly being added as we receive new information and conduct our own investigations into current and historic land uses. The Selected Land Use Register only contains information held by Hawkes Bay Regional Council in relation to hazardous activities and industries; other information relevant to potential contamination may be held in other files (for example consent and enforcement files) or held by district or city councils. If the property is rural, please note that many current and past activities undertaken on farms may not be listed on the Register. Activities such as the storage, formulation and disposal of pesticides, use of offal pits, foot rot troughs, animal dips, and underground or above ground fuel tanks have the potential to cause contamination. If land has been identified as a HAIL site, it does not mean that it is contaminated, only that it has been used for an activity that could have resulted in contamination. Land is legally defined as 'contaminated' where substances are causing or could cause significant harm to people, property or protected species as well as causing significant pollution to surface waters (for example lakes and rivers) or groundwater. Land can become contaminated by a variety of substances, from heavy metals to agricultural waste. The environmental, financial and legal implications of this can be substantial. The management and remediation of contaminated land that, in its current state, is causing or has the potential to cause significant harm or significant pollution of the water environment, is regulated by legislation and underpinned by the core principles of the 'polluter pays' and a 'suitable for use approach'. Local authorities are the primary regulator for the contaminated land regime (SEPA also has certain responsibilities within the scope of the legislation) to regulate activities and assist in the management and remediation of contaminated land. The current regulation regarding Contaminated Land is contained within the Environmental Protection Act (1990) known as Part IIA. Part IIA is further established in Scotland by the Contaminated Land (Scotland) Regulations 2000 (SSI 2000/178), as amended and the Scottish Government's Statutory Guidance: Edition 2 provides the detailed framework for the definition, identification and remediation of contaminated land. THIS SPATIAL DATASET IS ONLY CONFIRMED CONTAMINATED LAND AND DOES NOT INCLUDE POTENTIALLY CONTAMINATED LAND Site name, date designated, website URL (for further information), status (confirmed or remediated) and remediation dates (where applicable) are all now mandatory attributes for this dataset.

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) provides a list of sites notified to the EPA under the Contaminated Land Management Act 1997 (CLM Act) on the EPA website. \r \r The list provides site location details and the status of each site with regard to the EPA’s assessment and regulation processes.
Facebook
TwitterThe list of notified sites contain land that has been notified to the EPA as being potentially contaminated. The list states whether the land is regulated under the CLM Act.
If land is declared as 'significantly contaminated', it is regulated under the CLM Act and will receive notices relating to the management of this contamination. These notices are published on the record of notices for public view.
See the role of the EPA in contaminated land for more information on the assessment and regulation process.
