    Description

Abstract The situation in Córdoba (Argentina) is revisited in terms of sociodemographic trends in the territory in a future short-term scenario. Demographic/territorial variables from official census data were combined, along with lifestyle and consumption variables surveyed by public and private consultants. This was complemented by a sociological analysis based on a review of the specific literature. Simultaneous macrocephaly and counterurbanization processes were detected, as well as changes in family structures and lifestyles, characteristic of the dialectic between the condition of an advanced demographic transition and processes of the current postmodern neoliberalism.

    Description

OBJECTIVE: To describe and compare nutritional and health status in two groups of elderly population with different life conditions, living in Córdoba city, Argentina. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Cross-sectional study in two samples of elderly: aged people of Social Food Program Beneficiary, in Córdoba city SFPB, n=308; and aged people affiliated to University Personal Health Insurance UPHI; n=134. Anthropometric measures were applied: body mass index BMI, waist circumference WC and waist-hip ratio WHR. Health status was determinate with subjective indicators self health perception, chronic conditions self report, measure through questionnaire. Statistical analysis included Chi-Square test, Odds Ratio OR and T test. RESULTS: In men, we observed more overweight and obesity in UPHI group than in SFPB; while in women not differences was find in two groups, excepting a lower mean of BMI in UPHI group. Health indicators show in both sexes a better self-perception health in UPHI group. We observed more diabetes prevalence in men of SFPB group, more hypertension in women of SFPB group, and more malign tumor in men of UPHI group. CONCLUSIONS: We observed that social conditions had influence in nutritional and health status of elderly people, especially in men. For this reason, life conditions conducted to different risks in these groups if elderly people.

    Description

Abstract Debates on the incorporation of migrants in receiving societies is a controversial issue in academic research. In this paper we focus our attention on the spatial dimension in the analysis of the patterns of incorporation of Peruvian migrants in the city of Cordoba in the period of 2001-2010. First, we analyze patterns of spatial segregation of the native population and the Peruvian population in the city. Second, considering the clustered/scattered cleavage, we analyze the sociodemographic characteristics of clustered and dispersed peruvians in the city. We suggest the interaction of two processes of spatial incorporation: a) there are specific patterns of location of Peruvian migrants in the city of Cordoba. The native population with higher education levels, in turn, tends to settle in the center and northwest part of the city. The central areas were the stable places where the Peruvians are located, however, in recent years there has been a changing pattern with new places of settlement; b) we identify structural differences between clustered and dispersed Peruvians.

    Description

Antecedents: Older adults were the segment of the population most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Type 2 diabetes (DBT2) also has a high prevalence in this age group, and its preexistence increases susceptibility, severity, and mortality from COVID-19. The objectives of this work were to calculate and compare the main epidemiological variables, between groups with DBT2 and without DBT2 in the study population, before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aim: To determine if there is an association of higher mortality from COVID-19 with the presence of DBT2 in this population of older adults. Methodology: Retrospective observational study (2018-2022) of medical records (n=1020) of older adults (≥65 years) treated at the "San Ricardo Pampuri" Center in Villa Carlos Paz, Córdoba, Argentina. They were statistically analyzed by ANOVA test for quantitative data and Chi-square for categorical data using Infostat (α=0.05). The ethical norms of confidentiality and anonymity were respected. Results: •Population data: Gender distribution=62% male/38% female. 47% of the population suffered from DBT2. Total COVID-19 prevalence: 46% of the population (469 cases) during the study period. •COVID-19 incidences (%, DBT2 and non-DBT2 patients respectively): 2020: 25.15 vs 15.78; 2021: 22.95 vs. 14.73; 2022: 11.26 vs. 5.38. •COVID-19 mortality (%): Total Average=0.63; in DBT2= 1.00 vs. No DBT2=0.32. 72% of the deceased had DBT2. Annual mortality and fatalities from COVID-19 were higher for those with DBT2. In 2020 and 2021 COVID-19 was the leading cause of death in the population studied. •Excess Mortality: Average General Mortality (%) pre-pandemic (2018-2019)=1.86 vs pandemic (2020-2022)=2.72 (46% increase). •Average age of death from COVID-19: DBT2=76.4; Not DBT2=84.1. •Vaccination: 83% of deceased diabetic patients (2020-2022) were not vaccinated against SARS-COV-2. In 2022, coverage of more than 80% of the population was achieved with vaccines (≥ 2 doses) against SARS-COV-2. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the population parameters studied, with these increases being greater in the group with DBT2. An increased mortality risk for COVID-19 was observed in patients with T2DM. In 2022, there was a large decrease in incidence, mortality, and lethality (general and specific for COVID-19) compared to 2021. The improvement of the variables recorded in 2022 can be associated with the great coverage achieved in vaccination campaigns.
