This time series dataset includes viral COVID-19 laboratory test [Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)] results from over 1,000 U.S. laboratories and testing locations including commercial and reference laboratories, public health laboratories, hospital laboratories, and other testing locations. Data are reported to state and jurisdictional health departments in accordance with applicable state or local law and in accordance with the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act (CARES Act Section 18115).

Data presented here is representative of diagnostic specimens being tested - not individual people - and excludes serology tests where possible. Data presented might not represent the most current counts for the most recent 3 days due to the time it takes to report testing information. The data may also not include results from all potential testing sites within the jurisdiction (e.g., non-laboratory or point of care test sites) and therefore reflect the majority, but not all, of COVID-19 testing being conducted in the United States.

This dataset represents daily COVID-19 hospitalization data and metrics aggregated to national, state/territory, and regional levels. COVID-19 hospitalization data are reported to CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network, which monitors national and local trends in healthcare system stress, capacity, and community disease levels for approximately 6,000 hospitals in the United States. Data reported by hospitals to NHSN and included in this dataset represent aggregated counts and include metrics capturing information specific to COVID-19 hospital admissions, and inpatient and ICU bed capacity occupancy.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) required EMS Region XI (Chicago area) hospitals to report hospital capacity and patient impact metrics related to COVID-19 to CDPH through the statewide EMResource system. This requirement has been lifted as of May 9, 2023, in alignment with the expiration of the national and statewide COVID-19 public health emergency declarations on May 11, 2023. However, all hospitals will still be required by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to report COVID-19 hospital capacity and utilization metrics into the HHS Protect system through the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network until April 30, 2024. Facility-level data from the HHS Protect system can be found at healthdata.gov. Until May 9, 2023, all Chicago (EMS Region XI) hospitals (n=28) were required to report bed and ventilator capacity, availability, and occupancy to the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) daily. A list of reporting hospitals is included below. All data represent hospital status as of 11:59 pm for that calendar day. Counts include Chicago residents and non-residents. ICU bed counts include both adult and pediatric ICU beds. Neonatal ICU beds are not included. Capacity refers to all staffed adult and pediatric ICU beds. Availability refers to all available/vacant adult and pediatric ICU beds. Hospitals began reporting COVID-19 confirmed and suspected (PUI) cases in ICU on 03/19/2020. Hospitals began reporting ICU surge capacity as part of total capacity on 5/18/2020. Acute non-ICU bed counts include burn unit, emergency department, medical/surgery (ward), other, pediatrics (pediatric ward) and psychiatry beds. Burn beds include those approved by the American Burn Association or self-designated. Capacity refers to all staffed acute non-ICU beds. An additional 500 acute/non-ICU beds were added at the McCormick Place Treatment Facility on 4/15/2020. These beds are not included in the total capacity count. The McCormick Place Treatment Facility closed on 05/08/2020. Availability refers to all available/vacant acute non-ICU beds. Hospitals began reporting COVID-19 confirmed and suspected (PUI) cases in acute non-ICU beds on 04/03/2020. Ventilator counts prior to 04/24/2020 include all full-functioning mechanical ventilators, with ventilators with bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP), anesthesia machines, and portable/transport ventilators counted as surge. Beginning 04/24/2020, ventilator counts include all full-functioning mechanical ventilators, BiPAP, anesthesia machines and portable/transport ventilators. Ventilators are counted regardless of ability to staff. Hospitals began reporting COVID-19 confirmed and suspected (PUI) cases on ventilators on 03/19/2020. CDPH has access to additional ventilators from the EAMC (Emergency Asset Management Center) cache. These ventilators are included in the total capacity count. As of April 20, 2020, the highest number of hospital-acquired infections (HAI) with the coronavirus disease(COVID-19) was recorded in Tokyo Prefecture, in which 375 cases were confirmed across eight hospitals. The northernmost prefecture Hokkaido had the second highest number of hospital-acquired infections with 95 cases in seven hospitals.

The National Hospital Care Survey (NHCS) collects data on patient care in hospital-based settings to describe patterns of health care delivery and utilization in the United States. Settings currently include inpatient and emergency departments (ED). Additionally, the NHCS contributes data that may inform public health emergencies as the survey is designed to capture emerging diseases and viruses that require hospitalizations, including COVID-19 encounters. The 2020 - 2023 NHCS are not yet fully operational so it is important to note that these data are not nationally representative.
The data are from 26 hospitals submitting inpatient and 26 hospitals submitting ED Uniform Bill (UB)-04 administrative claims from March 18, 2020-December 26, 2023. Even though the data are not nationally representative, they can provide insight on the impact of COVID-19 on various types of hospitals throughout the country. This information is not available in other hospital reporting systems. The NHCS data from these hospitals can show results by a combination of indicators related to COVID-19, such as length of inpatient stay, in-hospital mortality, comorbidities, and intubation or ventilator use. NHCS data allow for reporting on patient conditions and treatments within the hospital over time.
As of June 28, 2020, in the United Kingdom, it was found that around 47 percent of survey respondents had been actively avoiding going to hospitals or other healthcare settings to protect themselves and others from the coronavirus (COVID-19), although this share is a fairly large net decrease since the first survey wave.

This dataset shows the number of hospital admissions for influenza-like illness, pneumonia, or include ICD-10-CM code (U07.1) for 2019 novel coronavirus. Influenza-like illness is defined as a mention of either: fever and cough, fever and sore throat, fever and shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, or influenza. Patients whose ICD-10-CM code was subsequently assigned with only an ICD-10-CM code for influenza are excluded. Pneumonia is defined as mention or diagnosis of pneumonia. Baseline data represents the average number of people with COVID-19-like illness who are admitted to the hospital during this time of year based on historical counts. The average is based on the daily avg from the rolling same week (same day +/- 3 days) from the prior 3 years. Percent change data represents the change in count of people admitted compared to the previous day. Data sources include all hospital admissions from emergency department visits in NYC. Data are collected electronically and transmitted to the NYC Health Department hourly. This dataset is updated daily. All identifying health information is excluded from the dataset.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was identified in January 2020. Currently, there have been more than 6 million cases & more than 1.5 million deaths worldwide. Some individuals experience severe manifestations of infection, including viral pneumonia, adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) & death. There is a pressing need for tools to stratify patients, to identify those at greatest risk. Acuity scores are composite scores which help identify patients who are more unwell to support & prioritise clinical care. There are no validated acuity scores for COVID-19 & it is unclear whether standard tools are accurate enough to provide this support. This secondary care COVID OMOP dataset contains granular demographic, morbidity, serial acuity and outcome data to inform risk prediction tools in COVID-19.
PIONEER geography The West Midlands (WM) has a population of 5.9 million & includes a diverse ethnic & socio-economic mix. There is a higher than average percentage of minority ethnic groups. WM has a large number of elderly residents but is the youngest population in the UK. Each day >100,000 people are treated in hospital, see their GP or are cared for by the NHS. The West Midlands was one of the hardest hit regions for COVID admissions in both wave 1 & 2.

UHB has cared for >5000 COVID admissions to date. This is a subset of data in OMOP format.
Scope: All COVID swab confirmed hospitalised patients to UHB from January – August 2020. With the onset of COVID-19, hospitals statewide saw a sharp drop in inpatient discharges, emergency department utilization, and ambulatory surgeries. These datasets contain monthly counts of encounters and in-hospital mortalities in those three settings and are also broken down by the following common health conditions/categories: anxiety, asthma, behavioral syndromes, cancer, cardiac arrest, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), COVID-19, depression, diabetes, homeless, hypertension, mood disorders (excluding depression), non-mood psychotic disorders, nonpsychotic disorders (excluding anxiety), obesity, pneumonia, respiratory arrest/failure, sepsis, stroke, substance use disorders, and unspecified mental disorders.
In June 2020, it was projected that hospitals and health systems in the United States would lose a total of 323.1 billion U.S. dollars in the year 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of October 6, 2022, 11,641 confirmed COVID-19 patients were in hospital in the United Kingdom. The number of COVID patients in hospitals first peaked at over 21.6 thousand on April 12, 2020 and dropped as low as 772 on September 11, 2020. However, the number of patients reached a new peak in the winter of 2020/21 with over 39.2 thousand patients in hospital on January 18, 2021.

Since the new increase of coronavirus COVID-19 cases had been slowing down in China, many hospitals and other pharmaceutical sectors began to re-open for non-coronavirus patients. In the original epicenter Hubei, hospitals re-opened gradually from April. By the end of May, all hospitals would very likely resume services to other patients. According to the projections, 70 percent of the hospitals would resume services with patient access by the end of June. However, a full recovery of Wuhan's hospitals may need additional one or two months.

On March 2, 2022 DC Health announced the District’s new COVID-19 Community Level key metrics and reporting. COVID-19 cases are now reported on a weekly basis. The data in this table includes overall COVID-19 statistics for the District of Columbia hospitals. The number of hospital beds and ventilators available. Due to rapidly changing nature of COVID-19, data for March 2020 is limited.General Guidelines for Interpreting Disease Surveillance Data during a disease outbreak, the health department will collect, process, and analyze large amounts of information to understand and respond to the health impacts of the disease and its transmission in the community. The sources of disease surveillance information include contact tracing, medical record review, and laboratory information, and are considered protected health information. When interpreting the results of these analyses, it is important to keep in mind that the disease surveillance system may not capture the full picture of the outbreak, and that previously reported data may change over time as it undergoes data quality review or as additional information is added. These analyses, especially within populations with small samples, may be subject to large amounts of variation from day to day. Despite these limitations, data from disease surveillance is a valuable source of information to understand how to stop the spread of COVID19.

Data voluntarily reported to NHSN after May 1, 2024, will be available starting May 10, 2024, at COVID Data Tracker Hospitalizations.
This time series dataset includes viral COVID-19 laboratory test [Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)] results from over 1,000 U.S. laboratories and testing locations including commercial and reference laboratories, public health laboratories, hospital laboratories, and other testing locations. Data are reported to state and jurisdictional health departments in accordance with applicable state or local law and in accordance with the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act (CARES Act Section 18115).
Data are provisional and subject to change.
Data presented here is representative of diagnostic specimens being tested - not individual people - and excludes serology tests where possible. Data presented might not represent the most current counts for the most recent 3 days due to the time it takes to report testing information. The data may also not include results from all potential testing sites within the jurisdiction (e.g., non-laboratory or point of care test sites) and therefore reflect the majority, but not all, of COVID-19 testing being conducted in the United States.
