    Description

NOTE: This dataset pertains only to the 2020-2021 school year and is no longer being updated. For additional data on COVID-19, visit data.ct.gov/coronavirus.

This dataset includes the leading and secondary metrics identified by the Connecticut Department of Health (DPH) and the Department of Education (CSDE) to support local district decision-making on the level of in-person, hybrid (blended), and remote learning model for Pre K-12 education.

Data represent daily averages for two-week periods by date of specimen collection (cases and positivity), date of hospital admission, or date of ED visit. Hospitalization data come from the Connecticut Hospital Association and are based on hospital location, not county of patient residence. COVID-19-like illness includes fever and cough or shortness of breath or difficulty breathing or the presence of coronavirus diagnosis code and excludes patients with influenza-like illness. All data are preliminary.

These data are updated weekly and reflect the previous two full Sunday-Saturday (MMWR) weeks (https://wwwn.cdc.gov/nndss/document/MMWR_week_overview.pdf).

These metrics were adapted from recommendations by the Harvard Global Institute and supplemented by existing DPH measures.

For national data on COVID-19, see COVID View, the national weekly surveillance summary of U.S. COVID-19 activity, at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/covidview/index.html

DPH note about change from 7-day to 14-day metrics: Prior to 10/15/2020, these metrics were calculated using a 7-day average rather than a 14-day average. The 7-day metrics are no longer being updated as of 10/15/2020 but the archived dataset can be accessed here: https://data.ct.gov/Health-and-Human-Services/CT-School-Learning-Model-Indicators-by-County/rpph-4ysy

As you know, we are learning more about COVID-19 all the time, including the best ways to measure COVID-19 activity in our communities. CT DPH has decided to shift to 14-day rates because these are more stable, particularly at the town level, as compared to 7-day rates. In addition, since the school indicators were initially published by DPH last summer, CDC has recommended 14-day rates and other states (e.g., Massachusetts) have started to implement 14-day metrics for monitoring COVID transmission as well.

With respect to geography, we also have learned that many people are looking at the town-level data to inform decision making, despite emphasis on the county-level metrics in the published addenda. This is understandable as there has been variation within counties in COVID-19 activity (for example, rates that are higher in one town than in most other towns in the county).

    Education and Skills Funding Agency
    Description

The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) closed on 31 March 2025. All activity has moved to the Department for Education (DfE). You should continue to follow this guidance.

This page outlines payments made to institutions for claims they have made to ESFA for various grants. These include, but are not exclusively, COVID-19 support grants. Information on funding for grants based on allocations will be on the specific page for the grant.

    Claim-based grants included

    Senior mental health lead training

Financial assistance towards the cost of training a senior member of school or college staff in mental health and wellbeing in the 2021 to 2022, 2022 to 2023, 2023 to 2024 and 2024 to 2025 financial years. The information provided is for payments up to the end of March 2025.

    COVID-19 16 to 19 tuition fund 2020 to 2021 and 2021 to 2022

Funding for eligible 16 to 19 institutions to deliver small group and/or one-to-one tuition for disadvantaged students and those with low prior attainment to help support education recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to continued pandemic disruption during academic year 2020 to 2021 some institutions carried over funding from academic year 2020 to 2021 to 2021 to 2022.

Therefore, any considerations of spend or spend against funding allocations should be considered across both years.

School funding: exceptional costs associated with coronavirus (COVID-19)

Financial assistance available to schools to cover increased premises, free school meals and additional cleaning-related costs associated with keeping schools open over the Easter and summer holidays in 2020, during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) free school meals: additional costs

Financial assistance available to meet the additional cost of the provision of free school meals to pupils and students where they were at home during term time, for the period January 2021 to March 2021.

Alternative provision: year 11 transition funding

Financial assistance for alternative provision settings to provide additional transition support into post-16 destinations for year 11 pupils from June 2020 until the end of the autumn term (December 2020). This has now been updated to include funding for support provided by alternative provision settings from May 2021 to the end of February 2022.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) 2021 qualifications fund for schools and colleges

Financial assistance for schools, colleges and other exam centres to run exams and assessments during the period October 2020 to March 2021 (or for functional skills qualifications, October 2020 to December 2020). Now updated to include claims for eligible costs under the 2021 qualifications fund for the period October 2021 to March 2022.

    Description

    From the project page: https://covid19.uis.unesco.org/global-monitoring-school-closures-covid19/

The COVID-19 crisis has significantly affected the education sector across all regions. The closing of schools has interrupted the functioning of the system, reducing student learning, and restricting the activities of education authorities, parents, and decision-makers. As the pandemic progresses, many important decisions need to be made based on a systematic understanding of deployed policies up to date.

UNESCO has monitored in a daily basis the status of the schooling system according to the closures of school and the methods selected for delivery across the world since the outbreak of the pandemic

These dashboards present the status of school closures by region and country and the status of the delivery of classes in two dashboards, one by region and the other by country.

    Context

Ohio COVID 19 Data by School District.

    Content

From the website: *"This data reflects new and cumulative COVID-19 cases reported to schools by parents/guardians and staff. Schools are required to report cases to their assigned Local Health Department who then report to the Ohio Department of Health. A report of COVID-19 should not be interpreted as an indicator that a school district or school isn’t following proper procedures—school cases can be a reflection of the overall situation in the broader community. Families and staff should always feel free to ask questions of the school district or school.

    Description

This survey by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Bank seeks to collect information on national education responses to school closures related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The questionnaire is designed for Ministry of Education officials at central or decentralized level in charge of school education. The questionnaire does not cover higher education or technical and vocational education and training. Analysis of results will allow for policy learning across the diversity of country settings in order to better inform local/national responses and prepare for the reopening of schools. The survey will be run on a regular basis to ensure that the latest impact and responses are captured. In light of the current education crisis, the COVID-19 education response coordinated by UNESCO with our partners is deemed urgent. A first wave of data collection started in May and lasted until mid-June 2020. A second wave of data collection will start at the beginning of July. A link to the online survey questionnaire, as well as other formats, will be available shortly.

Data and Programming for "Does School Funding Matter In a Pandemic? COVID-19 Instructional Models and School Funding Adequacy"Abstract: The factors that influenced school districts’ decisions to offer virtual, hybrid, or in-person instruction during the 2020-21 school year—the first full school year after the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic—have been the focus of a large body of research in recent years. Some of this research examines the influence of school spending, among other factors; however, these studies do not consider spending in relation to cost, “cost” being the amount needed for a school district to achieve a given outcome. This paper uses a measure of adequacy, which is the amount of spending under or over estimated cost, to determine whether spending correlates with the amount of time a school district offered virtual instruction. We find spending adequacy significantly and substantially predicts time spent in virtual instruction: for every $1,000 positive change in adequacy (closing a gap and/or adding to a surplus), the time spent in virtual schooling decreases 0.9 percentage points. A one standard deviation positive change in adequacy, therefore, results in 12.8 fewer days of virtual instruction. While our findings are descriptive, they do require future researchers to consider school spending adequacy, as much as any other factor, as a predictor of pandemic instructional models.

    Description

The C-19GA20 dataset was gathered online in April 2020 from school and university students between 14 to 24 years of age. It provides insightful information about the students’ mental health, social lives, attitude towards Covid-19, impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on students’ education, and their experience with online learning. The data includes 5 major groups of variables: 1) Socio-demographic data - age group, gender, current place of stay, study level in their institution 2) 4 items for information regarding connectivity to the internet during the lockdown - device availability for exclusive use, internet bandwidth, top 5 online tools used most commonly, and screen time. 3) 9 items measured the impact of Covid-19 on the students’ social lives - their current situation of living, number of people around them where they live, their feelings towards meeting their friends, visiting their institution of study, events that would have been held offline. Students were asked about their top 5 past time activities during the lockdown and the amount of time they spend on social media online. 4) 6 items to gauge their experience with online learning during the lockdown - questions about feeling connected to their peers, maintaining discipline, structured learning, and the stress/burden felt by them due to online learning in the lockdown 5) 11 items to comprehensively gather information about the students’ mental health - how well have they adapted to stay-at-home instructions, their overall mood in the lockdown, feelings towards Covid 19, their prime concerns regarding their academic schedule, being updated and informed about Covid 19, the impact of social media on their beliefs. Finally, the students were asked to write about how they feel the pandemic has changed them as a person and affected their thinking process, and the students were asked to share a one-line message for the world during the lockdown.
