    Description

The North Carolina State and County Boundary vector polygon data provides location information for North Carolina State and County Boundary lines derived from the best available survey and/or Geographic Information System (GIS) data. Sources for information are the North Carolina Geodetic Survey (NCGS), NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT), United States Geological Survey (USGS), and field surveys conducted by licensed surveyors in North Carolina and neighboring states that have been approved and recorded in their respective counties. North Carolina Geodetic Survey assists counties on a cooperative basis (NC General Statute 153A-18) in defining and monumenting the location of uncertain or disputed boundaries as established by law. Some counties have completed boundary surveys for at least a portion of their county boundary. However, the majority of county boundaries have not been surveyed and are represented by the best currently available data from GIS sources, including NCDOT county maps (which originally came from the USGS) and updated county parcel maps.

    Description

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The primary legal divisions of most states are termed counties. In Louisiana, these divisions are known as parishes. In Alaska, which has no counties, the equivalent entities are the organized boroughs, city and boroughs, municipalities, and for the unorganized area, census areas. The latter are delineated cooperatively for statistical purposes by the State of Alaska and the Census Bureau. In four states (Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, and Virginia), there are one or more incorporated places that are independent of any county organization and thus constitute primary divisions of their states. These incorporated places are known as independent cities and are treated as equivalent entities for purposes of data presentation. The District of Columbia and Guam have no primary divisions, and each area is considered an equivalent entity for purposes of data presentation. The Census Bureau treats the following entities as equivalents of counties for purposes of data presentation: Municipios in Puerto Rico, Districts and Islands in American Samoa, Municipalities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The entire area of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas is covered by counties or equivalent entities. The boundaries for counties and equivalent entities are as of January 1, 2017, primarily as reported through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS).

1 Overview World Administrative Boundaries are available from various sources (UN, WHO, Global Administrative Areas [GADM], Natural Earth, World Bank). We would like to have the most accurate one with a reasonable size for an interactive world map in a Data Exploration Application, called CLIMINET. We provide a complete Geospatial Data that covers at least all 249 countries in the international ISO 3166-1 standard. We aim to maintain a reasonable data size, with countries' boundaries as accurate as possible, to ensure FLUIDITY in data visualization applications. The data are optimized for efficient performance and smooth interactions in interactive world maps for the best possible user experience. 2. Data Overview Number of Spatial Features: 275 countries/territories Data Sources: Compiled from multiple sources to ensure completeness and precision (WHO, Global Administrative Areas [GADM]) CRS Options: WGS84 [EPSG:4326] World Robinson (1963) [ESRI:54030] World Winkel-Tripel (Winkel III) - (1921) [ESRI:54042] Data Level: Level 0 (Countries) File Format: GeoJSON File Size: WGS84 [EPSG:4326]: 18.86 MB World Robinson (1963) [ESRI:54030]: 30.91 MB World Winkel-Tripel (Winkel III) - (1921) [ESRI:54042]: 30.90 MB 3. The VA_TOWN dataset is a feature class component of the Virginia Administrative Boundaries dataset from the Virginia Geographic Information Network (VGIN). VA_COUNTY represents the best available city and county boundary information to VGIN.VGIN initially sought to develop an improved locality and town boundary dataset in late 2013, spurred by response of the Virginia Administrative Boundaries Workgroup community. The feature class initially started from the locality boundaries from the Census TIGER dataset for Virginia. VGIN solicited input from localities in Virginia through the Road Centerlines data submission process as well as through public forums such as the Virginia Administrative Boundaries Workgroup and VGIN listservs. Data received were analyzed and incorporated into the VA_COUNTY feature class where locality data were a superior representation of the city or county boundary.

This layer contains Legal City boundaries within Los Angeles County. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works provides the most current shape file of these city boundaries for download at its Spatial Information Library.Note: This boundary layer will not line up with the Thomas Brothers city layer. Principal attributes include:CITY_NAME: represents the city's name.CITY_TYPE: may be used for definition queries; "Unincorporated" or "City".FEAT_TYPE: contains the type of feature each polygon represents:Land - Use this value for your definition query if you want to see only land features on your map.Pier - One example is the Santa Monica Pier. Description

This dataset was created by TxDOT for internal purposes. TxDOT is not the authority for county boundary data for the state. These features were digitized by TxDOT from georeferenced USGS topo maps to enable the classification of roadway attributes for the purposes of satisfying federal and state reporting requirements, and to serve as a base layer for TxDOT's cartographic products. This version utilizes a generalized boundary along the coast, which is sometimes necessary for analysis in which it is important to encompass segments of roadways that travel over water. Roadways on bridges or causeways that span intracoastal waterways are not covered by detailed polygons that precisely follow the coastline, therefore a generalized boundary is needed for some types of analysis where it is important to preserve such relationships.Use at your own risk.
