    Description

Cats are a popular choice in Europe when it comes to pet ownership, although we don’t see them outside as often as their canine friends. As shown in this statistic, Germany and France are the two countries leading the list of cat owners in the EU, with the former’s narrow win. While Germany also ranks as the top EU country with the highest number of pet dogs, cats still win in European households.

    EU loves cats

Compared with the cat population in Germany and France, countries such as Latvia, Ireland and Estonia had a low number of household felines. Yet across Europe in general, the number of cats has gone up significantly since 2010. In 2022, the EU alone was home to a large population of cats, making them the most preferred pets.

Cat food in pet care industry

The population of household cats in the European Union also corresponds to the volume of the pet care industry in this region. Between 2010 and 2022, pet food industry achieved steady growth.

    Cat Supplements Market Outlook

The global cat supplements market size is projected to grow from USD 2.5 billion in 2023 to approximately USD 4.8 billion by 2032, registering a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.5% during the forecast period. One of the critical growth factors driving this market is the increasing awareness among pet owners about the health benefits associated with dietary supplements for cats.

One of the significant growth drivers in the cat supplements market is the rising expenditure on pet healthcare. With cats becoming an integral part of many households, pet owners are increasingly willing to invest in the health and well-being of their feline companions. This trend is particularly noticeable in developed economies where per capita disposable incomes are high. Moreover, the humanization of pets has led to increased spending on premium pet products, including dietary supplements that cater to various health needs of cats.

Another contributing factor is the growing prevalence of chronic diseases and age-related health issues in cats. As cats age, they are more susceptible to conditions such as arthritis, digestive disorders, and skin problems. This has fueled the demand for supplements aimed at improving joint health, skin and coat condition, and digestive health. Innovations in veterinary science and enhanced product formulations have also made these supplements more effective and appealing to pet owners.

Additionally, the increasing trend of adopting rescued and older cats from shelters has boosted the market for cat supplements. Older cats often require specialized diets and supplements to manage age-related ailments and ensure they maintain a good quality of life. Furthermore, the ongoing trend of nuclear families and urbanization has led to an increase in single-person households where pets serve as companions, further driving the demand for health-focused pet products.

The introduction of Cat Specific Lotion products has also contributed to the growth of the cat supplements market. These lotions are formulated to address specific skin conditions and enhance the overall skin health of cats. With the increasing awareness about dermatological issues in pets, cat owners are now more inclined to invest in products that provide targeted care. Cat Specific Lotions are designed to soothe irritated skin, reduce inflammation, and promote a healthy coat, making them a popular choice among pet owners who prioritize their feline's skin health.

From a regional perspective, North America currently holds the largest market share, primarily due to the high pet ownership rates and substantial spending on pet healthcare. Europe follows closely, with significant contributions from countries like Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. The Asia Pacific region is poised for substantial growth due to the increasing pet adoption rates and rising disposable incomes in countries like China and India. Latin America and the Middle East & Africa are also expected to witness steady growth, although their market shares remain relatively smaller compared to other regions.

    Product Type Analysis

The cat supplements market can be segmented by product type, which includes vitamins, minerals, probiotics, omega fatty acids, and others. Vitamins are one of the most popular categories as they play a crucial role in various bodily functions, including vision, bone health, and immune system support. The increasing awareness among pet owners about the benefits of these supplements in maintaining overall health and preventing deficiencies has led to a significant rise in demand for vitamin supplements for cats.

Mineral supplements are also gaining traction, especially for cats with specific health issues that require additional mineral intake. Essential minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium are vital for maintaining bone health, nerve function, and overall cellular processes. The growing focus on preventive healthcare for pets is driving the segmentÂ’s growth, as these supplements help in preventing conditions like osteoporosis and arthritis in aging cats.

Probiotics are another rapidly growing segment, primarily due to their benefits in promoting digestive health. These supplements contain beneficial bacteria that help in maintaining a healthy gut microbiome, which is essential for nutrient absorption and overall well-being. With increasing cases of

Growing Pet Ownership across Developing Countries to Aid Growth

It is anticipated that one of the key factors driving the market would be the rising rate of pet ownership throughout the world, particularly in emerging areas. The pace of market expansion is further accelerated by the growing urbanisation and pet humanization, which encourage pet owners to choose wholesome and premium pet food. The growing per capita income of consumers encourages them to spend money on organic and nutritious pet food items to improve the health of their pets.

The introduction of Tastefuls, a new line of cat food, was announced by General Mills, Inc. The item is specifically made to support with cognitive growth.

    (Source:www.generalmills.com/news/stories/one-taste-is-all-it-takes-with-new-blue-buffalo-cat-food)

Moreover, the convenience and nutritional benefits associated with dry pet food make it an attractive option for pet owners in busy urban environments. As a result, the market is poised for sustained growth in the foreseeable future.

Market Dynamics of Dry Pet Food

Stringent Regulations Associate with Pet Food to Obstruct Market Growth

Pet food comes under the most highly regulate food products, especially across the Western markets. In established markets, pet animal meals are rigorously inspected at every level, from the materials used to prepare the food through its sale and marketing. The stringent standards connected with commercialization may function as a significant barrier to the market's expansion. Moreover, lower acceptance for premium or high-priced pet food across some developing markets can also hinder growth.

Impact of COVID-19 on the Dry Pet Food Market

Disruptions in the worldwide market's supply chain were seen during the pandemic's early stages. These interruptions are brought on by a lack of labour for raw supplies and transportation limitations. However, because the lockdown was so simple, operations were restored to normal. Global pet food sales have been favourably influenced by increased pet adoption, an increase in demand for luxury pet food, and improvements in manufacturing practises by pet food companies. Pet owners have also stock up pet food through the lockdown in 2020, which caused a short-term boom in sales. Introduction of Dry Pet Food

While most pet feeds are utilised as utilitarian goods, they are often designed to give pets a comprehensive and balanced diet. A processed pet food diet is a dry diet, a biscuit diet, or a kibble diet. Compared to other pet food products, the demand for dry meals is significantly higher since pet owners view them as an accessible and simple diet option without sacrificing nutritional content. Dry pet food is in greater demand globally among young, employed urban pet owners due to how simple it is to store and feed pets. Furthermore, growing adoption of pets and increasing public awareness of their health needs are expected to drive sales in the market. Pet owners have become more conscious of the benefits and requirements of providing nutrient-rich food to their pets due to pet humanization.

.These developments empower businesses to offer better-tailored solutions and services, which, in turn, contribute to the growth of the dry pet foodindustry.

For instance, MARS Petcare launched premium cat food under the IAMS brand in India. This brand offers four dry variants in India, specially designed to ensure a healthy, natural defense for adult cats and kittens.

    Description

The European pet food market is a dynamic and rapidly growing sector, exhibiting a significant increase in demand driven by several key factors. The rising pet ownership rates across Europe, coupled with increasing humanization of pets, fuels the demand for premium and specialized pet food products. Consumers are increasingly prioritizing the health and well-being of their companion animals, leading to higher spending on premium pet food segments like wet food, pet nutraceuticals, and veterinary diets. This trend is particularly evident in Western European countries like the UK, Germany, and France, which have established mature pet food markets with high per-capita spending. The market is also witnessing a shift towards online purchasing, with e-commerce channels gaining traction as a convenient and accessible option for pet owners. Furthermore, the growing awareness of pet allergies and dietary needs is driving innovation in the pet food industry, resulting in a wider range of products catering to specific dietary requirements. This includes a surge in demand for hypoallergenic and organic pet food options. However, the European pet food market also faces some challenges. Economic fluctuations and changing consumer spending habits can impact overall market growth. Increased competition from both established players and new entrants requires companies to constantly innovate and differentiate their product offerings. Moreover, stringent regulations regarding pet food ingredients and labeling necessitate compliance with evolving standards, adding to operational costs. Despite these challenges, the long-term outlook for the European pet food market remains positive, driven by the sustained growth in pet ownership and the increasing focus on pet health and nutrition. The market is expected to continue its expansion in the coming years, with premiumization and specialization remaining key drivers of growth. Specific growth rates will likely vary across different segments and countries, reflecting local market dynamics and consumer preferences. Competitive landscape analysis will be crucial for identifying strategic growth opportunities within the market. Recent developments include: July 2023: Hill's Pet Nutrition introduced its new MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certified pollock and insect protein products for pets with sensitive stomachs and skin lines. They contain vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants.May 2023: Nestle Purina launched new cat treats under the Friskies "Friskies Playfuls - treats" brand.
