    Description

COVID-19Plots and analysis relating to the coronavirus pandemic. Includes five sets of plots and associated R code to generate them.1) HeatmapsUpdated every few days - heatmaps of COVID-19 case and death trajectories for Local Authorities (or equivalent) in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Germany.2) All cause mortalityUpdated on Tuesday (for England & Wales), Wednesday (for Scotland) and Friday (for Northern Ireland) - analysis and plots of weekly all-cause deaths in 2020 compared to previous years by country, age, sex and region. Also a set of international comparisons using data from mortality.org3) ExposuresNo longer updated - mapping of potential COVID-19 mortality exposure at local levels (LSOAs) in England based on the age-sex structure of the population and levels of poor health. There is also a Shiny app which creates slightly lower resolution versions of the same plots online, which you can find here: https://victimofmaths.shinyapps.io/covidmapper/, on GitHub https://github.com/VictimOfMaths/COVIDmapper and uploaded to this record4) Index of Multiple Deprivation No longer updated - preliminary analysis of the inequality impacts of COVID-19 based on Local Authority level cases and levels of deprivation. 5) Socioeconomic inequalities. No longer updated (unless ONS release more data) - Analysis of published ONS figures of COVID-19 and other cause mortality in 2020 compared to previous years by deprivation decile.Latest versions of plots and associated analysis can be found on Twitter: https://twitter.com/victimofmathsThis work is described in more detail on the UK Data Service Impact and Innovation Lab blog: http://lab.ukdataservice.ac.uk/2020/05/21/visualising-high-risk-areas-for-covid-19-mortality/Adapted from data from the Office for National Statistics licensed under the Open Government Licence v.1.0.http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/open-government-licence/version/3/

    Description

Datasets in this publication report the number of diagnoses with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as reported by the Department of Health in Ireland. This includes new cases diagnosed per day and cumulative cases, hospitalisations, ICU admissions, deaths, number of healthcare workers, number of clusters, gender of cases, age groups of cases, mode of transmission, age groups of those hospitalised, and cases per county. To aid standardisation of age groups and cases per county, the population estimates by age group for 2019 and the actual county population in the 2016 Census from Ireland's Central Statistics Office are also included as separate datasets, to allow expression of cases per million population.

    These are

    1. YYYY-DD-Mon_covid_ie_cases_analysis.csv, where data from Ireland's Health Protection Surveillance Centre is included up to midnight on the date YYYY-DD-Mon.
    2. age_population_cso_2019.csv
    3. counties_population_cso_2016.csv

Older datasets are also included as follows.

For the files YYYYMMDD_covid_ie_age_groups.csv, variable descriptions are as follows:

    • age_group: Age groups, in years
    • cases: Total cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in Ireland by age group, as per the Department of Health
    • pop_estimate: National population estimates by age group for 2019 in Ireland, as per the Central Statistics Office (Table 7 https://www.cso.ie/en/releasesandpublications/er/pme/populationandmigrationestimatesapril2019/), expressed in thousands.
    • cases_per_million: Cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in Ireland by age group, expressed per 1 million individuals

For the files YYYYMMDD_covid_ie_daily_cases, variable descriptions are as follows:

    • date: Date, in DD-MM-YYYY format
    • daily_cases: New cases of COVID-19 diagnosed per day in Ireland, as per the Department of Health (https://www.gov.ie/en/news/7e0924-latest-updates-on-covid-19-coronavirus/)
    • cumulative_cases: Cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Ireland
    • percent_daily_increase: New cases of COVID-19 diagnosed per day in Ireland as a percentage of cumulative number of cases up to that date.

Please see FAQ for latest information on COVID-19 Data Hub data flows: https://covid-19.geohive.ie/pages/helpfaqsNotice:Due to the surge of cases over the Christmas period 2021, and increased processing times, updates of the Local Electoral Area (LEA) historic time series were paused. Updates of the historic time series resumed on 25th February 2022 (for cases created up to midnight on 21st February). As work is still ongoing to geo-code all cases created during the surge period, there is a gap in the historic LEA time series for cases created between 21st December 2021 and 21st January 2022. From the week of 30th May 2022 LEA data will no longer be updated. Please refer to the FAQ page for more information.14 Day Incidence of confirmed COVID-19 cases by LEA.14 Day Time Series Incidence Rate of confirmed COVID-19 cases by LEA - Rate per 100kThis hosted feature view provides a visualisation of the 14 Day Incidence rate per 100k population of COVID-19 cases at the Local Electoral Area (LEA) level across Ireland. In total, there are 166 LEA's across Ireland. Please note: For confidentiality reasons, following consultation with the CSO, all LEA's with values below 5 have been suppressed to 'Less than 5'. Where a rate per 100k is set to 'Less than 5' it means that the LEA has a 14 Day incidence below 5 and its value has been suppressed to show 'Less than 5'. This is not an indication of zero (0) confirmed cases. For a proportion of notified COVID-19 cases, their location on the map may reflect their place of work rather than their home address. Confirmed cases have been geo-coded and allocated to Local Electoral Areas (LEA's) by the Health Intelligence Unit (HIU) at the HSE.This service is used in Ireland's COVID-19 Data Hub, produced as a collaboration between Tailte Éireann, the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, the Department of Health, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), and the All-Island Research Observatory (AIRO).
