    Description

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a statistical measure that tracks the average change over time in the prices paid by consumers for a basket of goods and services. It serves as a key indicator of inflation, reflecting the cost of living and the purchasing power of a currency. Calculated periodically, the CPI is used by governments, economists, and policymakers to make informed decisions on monetary policy, wage negotiations, and economic forecasting. By comparing the CPI across different periods, one can gauge the health of an economy, understand inflationary pressures, and assess the impact of economic policies on everyday consumer expenses.

    Description

Consumer price indexes (CPIs) are index numbers that measure changes in the prices of goods and services purchased or otherwise acquired by households, which households use directly, or indirectly, to satisfy their own needs and wants. In practice, most CPIs are calculated as weighted averages of the percentage price changes for a specified set, or ‘‘basket’’, of consumer products, the weights reflecting their relative importance in household consumption in some period. CPIs are widely used to index pensions and social security benefits. CPIs are also used to index other payments, such as interest payments or rents, or the prices of bonds. CPIs are also commonly used as a proxy for the general rate of inflation, even though they measure only consumer inflation. They are used by some governments or central banks to set inflation targets for purposes of monetary policy. The price data collected for CPI purposes can also be used to compile other indices, such as the price indices used to deflate household consumption expenditures in national accounts, or the purchasing power parities used to compare real levels of consumption in different countries.

In an effort to further coordinate and harmonize the collection of CPI data, the international organizations agreed that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) would assume responsibility for the international collection and dissemination of national CPI data. Under this data collection initiative, countries are reporting the aggregate all items index; more detailed indexes and weights for 12 subgroups of consumption expenditure (according to the so-called COICOP-classification), and detailed metadata. These detailed data represent a valuable resource for data users throughout the world and this portal would not be possible without the ongoing cooperation of all reporting countries. In this effort, the OECD collects and validates the data for their member countries, including accession and key partner countries, whereas the IMF takes care of the collection of data for all other countries.

    Description

The SADC Secretariat has been implementing the Harmonised Consumer Price Index (HCPI) since August 2011 when the first SADC Stage 1 HCPI was computed based on national HCPIs of member states. The main aim of the HCPI process is to produce Consumer Price Indices (CPIs) among Member States which are produced using comparable methodologies and classifications and using the same statistical frameworks to facilitate comparison of the indices among member states. Among others, the index is useful for monitoring progress towards attainment of goals and targets for economic convergence in the SADC region. SADC Council of Ministers at its meeting held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo in August 2011 approved that result of the Stage I Harmonised Consumer Price Indices (HCPIs) for SADC and its Member States be launched and disseminated by the SADC Secretariat during the third quarter of 2011. Since then Stage 1 SADC HCPI is produced sustainability on a monthly basis. In this dataset, we have extracted the table data from the PDFs and combined data for tables 1-4 across all years (note, this is a work in progress and as such we have not yet covered all years - we have begun with the latest reports and worked backwards). The methodology used to produce each newsletter is described in the final pages of each publication, and the reader is encouraged to contact the authors (details below) for more information. Description

Child Protective Investigations (CPI) is authorized to investigate abuse and neglect allegedly committed by a person responsible for a child's care, custody or welfare and to protect abused and neglected children from further harm. This authorization is derived from the U.S. Social Securities Act, Texas Family Code, Human Resources Code, Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, Indian Child Welfare Act and the Adam Walsh Act.

CPI conducts either a traditional investigation or Alternative Response (AR). Both require CPI to assess safety and take needed actions to protect a child and assess the risk of future abuse or neglect in the foreseeable future. AR, however, allows for a more flexible, family engaging approach on lower priority cases involving alleged victims who are age 6 or older. AR differs from traditional investigations in that there is no substantiation of allegations, no entry of perpetrators into the Central Registry (a repository for reports of child abuse and neglect), and there a heightened focus on guiding the family to plan for safety in a way that works for them and therefore sustains the safety.

Completed investigations only include those cases conducted as a traditional investigation that were not administratively closed or merged into another stage. An investigation can only be administratively closed if all allegations have a disposition of administrative closure. A completed investigation can include more than one alleged victim. Completed investigations do not include any Alternative Response cases. A description of Alternative Response and how it differs from a traditional investigation is in the glossary.

FOOTNOTES An investigation represents a report of abuse or neglect and can involve multiple children.

The data on completed investigations does not include investigative stages that were administratively closed or merged into another investigation.

All completed investigations have a case disposition and a risk finding.

    Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2017-2021 5-Year Estimates. It presents the median household income from the years 2010 to 2021 following an initial analysis and categorization of the census data. Subsequently, we adjusted these figures for inflation using the Consumer Price Index retroactive series via current methods (R-CPI-U-RS). Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset illustrates the median household income in Portal, spanning the years from 2010 to 2021, with all figures adjusted to 2022 inflation-adjusted dollars. Based on the latest 2017-2021 5-Year Estimates from the American Community Survey, it displays how income varied over the last decade. The dataset can be utilized to gain insights into median household income trends and explore income variations.

    Key observations:

From 2010 to 2021, the median household income for Portal increased by $36,416 (47.98%), as per the American Community Survey estimates. In comparison, median household income for the United States increased by $4,559 (6.51%) between 2010 and 2021.

Analyzing the trend in median household income between the years 2010 and 2021, spanning 11 annual cycles, we observed that median household income, when adjusted for 2022 inflation using the Consumer Price Index retroactive series (R-CPI-U-RS), experienced growth year by year for 8 years and declined for 3 years.
