    Cryptocurrency historical datasets from January 2012 (if available) to October 2021 were obtained and integrated from various sources and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) including Yahoo Finance, Cryptodownload, CoinMarketCap, various Kaggle datasets, and multiple APIs. While these datasets used various formats of time (e.g., minutes, hours, days), in order to integrate the datasets days format was used for in this research study. The integrated cryptocurrency historical datasets for 80 cryptocurrencies including but not limited to Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Binance Coin (BNB), Cardano (ADA), Tether (USDT), Ripple (XRP), Solana (SOL), Polkadot (DOT), USD Coin (USDC), Dogecoin (DOGE), Tron (TRX), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC), EOS (EOS), Cosmos (ATOM), Stellar (XLM), Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), Uniswap (UNI), Terra (LUNA), SHIBA INU (SHIB), and 60 more cryptocurrencies were uploaded in this online Mendeley data repository. Although the primary attribute of including the mentioned cryptocurrencies was the Market Capitalization, a subject matter expert i.e., a professional trader has also guided the initial selection of the cryptocurrencies by analyzing various indicators such as Relative Strength Index (RSI), Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD), MYC Signals, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci Retracement, Stochastic Oscillator and Ichimoku Cloud. The primary features of this dataset that were used as the decision-making criteria of the CLUS-MCDA II approach are Timestamps, Open, High, Low, Closed, Volume (Currency), % Change (7 days and 24 hours), Market Cap and Weighted Price values.     The data is made of the historical prices of some of the major cryptocurrencies and includes pricing details for 365 days. Each row contains the data a particular date. The dataset consists of one csv file per currency and a total of 20 such files for the top 20 cryptocurrencies (by Market Cap). The following are the columns available in each csv file:

    currency : Name of the cryptocurrency ticker : Ticker symbol of the currency date : Date of the price details open_price : Opening price (in USD) on the given date high : Highest price (in USD) on the given date low : Lowest price (in USD) on the given date close_price : Closing price (in USD) on the given date volume : Volume (in USD) of the currency traded on the given date market_cap : The total market value (in USD) of a cryptocurrency's circulating supply. It is analogous to the free-float capitalization in the stock market.

    This dataset contains historical prices as tracked by www.coinmarketcap.com for the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization as of September 22, 2017, and is current to that date.

    Each CSV file is named by its cryptocurrency as named on www.coinmarketcap.com, with the sole exception of "I-O Coin" in place of I/O Coin for ease of importing.

    Also accompanying the zip of the top 100 CSVs is a CSV named "Top 100.csv", which is a list of the top 100, ordered 1 to 100 with Bitcoin at the beginning and GridCoin at the end. The second row of this CSV is the Market Cap as of September 22, 2017.

Although this data is available across various sites, there is a lack of understanding as to what is driving the exponential rise of many individual currencies. This data set is intended to be a starting point for a detailed analysis into what is driving price action, and what can be done to predict future movement.     Inspiration For the past few months I have been searching for a reliable source for historical price information related to cryptocurrencies. I wasn't able to find anything that I could use to my liking, so I built my own data set. I've written a small script that scrapes historical price information for the top 200 coins by market cap as listed on CoinMarketCap.com. I plan to run some basic analysis on it to answer questions that I have a "gut" feeling about, but no quantitative evidence (yet). Questions such as:

    What is the correlation between bitcoin and alt coin prices What is the average age of the top 10 coins by market cap What day of the week is best to buysell Which coins in the top two hundred are less than 6 months old Which currencies are the most volatile What the hell happens when we go to bed and Asia starts trading

    It is estimated that the cumulative market cap of cryptocurrencies increased in early 2023 after the downfall in November 2022 due to FTX. That value declined in the summer of 2023, however, as international uncertainty grew over a potential recession. Bitcoin's market cap comprised the majority of the overall market capitalization. What is market cap? Market capitalization is a financial measure typically used for publicly traded firms, computed by multiplying the share price by the number of outstanding shares. However, cryptocurrency analysts calculate it as the price of the virtual currencies times the number of coins in the market. This gives cryptocurrency investors an idea of the overall market size, and watching the evolution of the measure tells how much money is flowing in or out of each cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency as an investment The price of Bitcoin has been erratic, and most other cryptocurrencies follow its larger price swings. This volatility attracts investors who hope to buy when the price is low and sell at its peak, turning a profit. However, this does little for price stability.     The Bitcoin (BTC) price again reached an all-time high in 2025, as values exceeded over 95,508.31 USD on November 16, 2025. Price hikes in early 2025 were connected to the approval of Bitcoin ETFs in the United States, while previous hikes in 2021 were due to events involving Tesla and Coinbase, respectively.     Description

    Authors, through Twitter API, collected this database over eight months. These data are tweets of over 50 experts regarding market analysis of 40 cryptocurrencies. These experts are known as influencers on social networks such as Twitter. The theory of Behavioral economics shows that the opinions of people, especially experts, can impact the stock market trend (here, cryptocurrencies). Existing databases often cover tweets related to one or more cryptocurrencies. Also, in these databases, no attention is paid to the user's expertise, and most of the data is extracted using hashtags. Failure to pay attention to the user's expertise causes the irrelevant volume to increase and the neutral polarity to increase considerably. This database has a main table named "Tweets1" with 11 columns and 40 tables to separate comments related to each cryptocurrency. The columns of the main table and the cryptocurrency tables are explained in the attached document. Researchers can use this dataset in various machine learning tasks, such as sentiment analysis and deep transfer learning with sentiment analysis. Also, this data can be used to check the impact of influencers' opinions on the cryptocurrency market trend. The use of this database is allowed by mentioning the source. Also, in this version, we have added the excel version of the database and Python code to extract the names of influencers and tweets. in Version(3): In the new version, three datasets related to historical prices and sentiments related to Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Binance have been added as Excel files from January 1, 2023, to June 12, 2023. Also, two datasets of 52 influential tweets in cryptocurrencies have been published, along with the score and polarity of sentiments regarding more than 300 cryptocurrencies from February 2021 to June 2023. Also, two Python codes related to the sentiment analysis algorithm of tweets with Python have been published. This algorithm combines RoBERTa pre-trained deep neural network and BiGRU deep neural network with an attention layer (see code Preprocessing_and_sentiment_analysis with python).
