Turkey observed a large gender gap when it comes to the use of cryptocurrency for payments or trading in 2020. This according to a survey held that year, which investigated a sample group that had used Bitcoin for transactions. A large majority were of this group were men. Note that the figures shown in here are different from other sources that mention Turkey as one of the leading countries worldwide in terms of crypto. Statista's own consumer surveys also lists Turkey as one of those countries. Unlike most other surveys - which focus on ownership - this particular survey seems to look at practical use, asking respondents whether they used cryptocurrencies for transactions or trading.
In Turkey, the share of people who had heard of cryptocurrency or Bitcoin rose dramatically, from 16 percent in 2020 to 70 percent in 2021. In 2023 and 2024, almost all participants of the survey were familiar with the concept of Bitcoin or cryptocurrency.
In 2024, the share of the people who made a transaction with cryptocurrency reached 27 percent in Turkey. In comparison, the share of respondents who had made transactions with cryptocurrency or bitcoin was way lower in 2020, measuring at 0.7 percent.
According to a 2020 survey in Turkey, a small number of respondents used cryptocurrencies for transactions - of which seven out ten were from Gen Y. The numbers provided in here are significantly different from various sources that list Turkey as one of the countries worldwide with a large interest in crypto, including consumer surveys conducted on this topic by Statista. Unlike most other surveys - which focus on ownership - this particular survey seems to look at practical use, asking respondents whether they used cryptocurrencies for transactions or trading.

The global Binance app is used often for crypto in Turkey, although most consumers preferred local language platforms. BtcTurk PRO, Paribu and Binance TR - Turkey's branch of Binance - are all from the country itself, reaching a cumulative market share of roughly 36 percent based on lifetime downloads since the apps were initially released. Consequently, big name apps such as Metamask or Coinbase were used less often in Turkey.

Turkey's domestically developed apps for cryptocurrency purchasing or storage were more popular than the Coinbase app in 2021. Two things stand out for Turkey: First, the domestic nature of most its cryptocurrency apps. BtcTurk, Thodex, OKEx and Bitay are all Turkish, with only Binance being a popular non-domestic alternative. Second, the daily active users or DAU observed in February 2021 is higher than the DAU for cryptocurrency wallets in the United Kingdom. Indeed, in 2020 Turkey ranked inside the top 10 of in a consumer comparison for 55 different countries worldwide on cryptocurrency adoption.

As of June 2024, the account of Merkez Bankası (the Central Bank of Turkey) reached more than 608,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter) and ranked first in the finance category in Turkey. Moreover, the account of Binance Türkiye, a cryptocurrency exchange platform, placed second on the social media platform, with over 526,000 follower count.
The most popular LUNC trade in June 2024 involved the Terra Luna Classic/Tether pair on Binance, making up over 30 percent of total 24h trade volume. Out of the big soccer clubs worldwide that offer fan tokens, Paris Saint-Germain's market cap was over 20 million U.S. dollars higher than that of FC Barcelona. Fan tokens from the Catalan club became especially popular in April 2021 after they were listed on crypto trading platform Binance - explaining the sudden growth in market cap around that time. The market cap increase for PSG is less clear, although there have been reports that Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi received "a large amount of" cryptocurrency fan tokens as a signing on fee at the French club. Regardless, fan tokens - or NFTs issued by sports clubs that grant owners special perks or give them (limited) ownership over their favorite team, and can be bought and traded like cryptocurrencies - became increasingly popular in 2021. This development originally started in Italy to spread to Spain and Turkey, with AS Roma and Manchester City becoming the latest clubs to join in this trend.
Singapore's most downloaded crypto wallets include Crypto.com, Metamask, and Binance - although the latter was impacted substantially in 2022. These figures were gathered according to estimates based on the downloads of 25 different apps that focus on digital assets since 2015 - and that attracted the highest average amount of downloads per day since the initial release of the app. Up until February 2022, Binance consistently ranked among the most downloaded crypto apps in Singapore. Downloads stopped during that month, however, as a ban came into effect because the company had withdrawn its crypto exchange license within the country. This consequently led to an increase in the number of downloads of two sub-versions of Binance: Binance TR, the exchange from Turkey, and Binance Custody, an institutional investor variant of the platform.
