Generally, indicators reported are related to a given municipality's General Fund, as reported to the Office of Policy and Management. Intergovernmental Revenue counts any revenue received from other governments, including state, federal, and other municipal governments. This income may be part of grants, shared taxes, advances, cooperative or joint financing funds, or repayment for services rendered by one government for another. Other Revenue includes items such as licensing and user fees, and is calculated here by subtracting Property Tax Revenue and Intergovernmental Revenue from the Total Revenue. Total Transfers into General Fund includes revenue items the town includes in the budgeting process. Items that are not included in the budget, such as debt proceeds or bond refunds, are not included in this indicator, but are included in the Total Revenue including Other Sources indicator. Non-Educational Expenditures are calculated by subtracting Educational Expenditures from the Total Expenditures. Net Revenue is the surplus (or deficit) left after subtracting a municipality's Total Expenditures from its Total Revenue. Current Year Adjusted Taxes collectible are used in the calculation of an Equalized Mill Rate. State Fiscal Years run from July 1 through the following June 30. Population estimates used to calculate Per Capita measures were derived using the Connecticut Department of Public Health estimates as of July 1 of the year ending the State Fiscal Year - ie. SFY 2012-2013 uses the population estimate for July 1, 2013.

Employment by Industry reports the total Number of Employers, the Annual Average Employment, and the Annual Average Wage by industry at the town, county, and state level. Industries included in this dataset vary from location to location. In as many locations as possible, five specific industry segments are consistently present (Construction, Manufacturing, Retail Trade, All Industries, Total Government) as well as the largest 3 out of the remaining segments for that location, ranked by Annual Average Employment. Not every location has data for every segment, and some may not have data for the five consistently reported segments. This data is from the Connecticut Department of Labor Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW). The program produces a comprehensive tabulation of employment and wage information for workers covered by Connecticut Unemployment Insurance (UI) laws and Federal workers covered by the Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees (UCFE) program.

Labor Force reports the number of civilian noninstitutionalized labor force participants, which includes employed and unemployed persons; and the unemployment rate (per 100 persons). The civilian noninstitutionalized labor force is all persons aged 16 and over who are not on active duty in the Armed Forces and who are not inmates of institutions, including prisons, mental facilities, and nursing homes who are either employed or unemployed. Employed persons are labor force participants who, during the week when data was collected, do any work as paid employees (at least one hour), work as self-employed, or are temporarily absent from work during the time of data collection period but otherwise employed. Unemployed persons are labor force participants who, during the week when data was collected, do not have jobs, who have actively looked for work in the past 4 weeks, and who are currently available to work. The unemployment rate is the percentage of the labor force that is unemployed. The Connecticut Department of Labor reports monthly and annual averages. CTdata.org carries the monthly data and the annual averages. In 2015, LAUS redesigned its methodology (see Technical Notes for more detail). This new methodology was carried back to 2010, hence, many areas can be expected to see breaks in the series between 2009 and 2010.
