Where roads cross watercourses, bridges and culverts can create barriers to fish and wildlife movement. This impacts natural heritage system connectivity and can also cause road mortality. CVC’s Road and Valley Crossings project evaluated existing bridge and culvert infrastructure. We identified priority structures for mitigation or replacement to improve fish and wildlife habitat connectivity in the Credit River Watershed. Improving connections in these areas can also reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions. This in turn improves health and safety for both people and wildlife.This shapefile was created to characterize existing conditions for fish and wildlife passage at bridges and culverts. Data for this file was collected through field inventories at bridges and culverts, primarily between 2014-2017, focusing on municipal roads. Additional sites have been added periodically, as additional data becomes available.
