As required by the Dallas City Charter, redistricting of elected official districts is required every ten years based on updated Census information. This feature layer represents the updated city council district boundaries as approved by the Dallas City Council on Jun 27, 2022, effective on May 6, 2023. Boundaries are based upon the 2020 Census Block geography and may not conform with other data. Where street boundaries serve as district borders, the entire right of way is assigned to the northern or eastern boundary. Utilizing this file with non-census shapefiles may result in discrepancies between boundaries. To identify appropriate boundaries, please use the layer in conjunction with the 2020 Census edges and block files.More Information

ESRI Curated Zipcodes were clipped by the most recent version of the Dallas City Limits. These Zipcodes are being used in applications and maps for different purposes. Any time a Zipcode is the desired analysis geometry. However, zipcodes are NOT optimal for analysis, but should be used carefully.More data below:Zipcodes are an approximation of delivery routes from the Postal Service. There is not an authoritative GIS layer for Postal Zipcodes, but an approximation at best. Numerous articles exist. One is here: https://carto.com/blog/zip-codes-spatial-analysis/ explaining the reason why zipcodes are not good for geospatial analysis.
Pulling from historic resources the Department of Planning and Urban Design created this map showing the Dallas City Boundary in 1960, water features and transportation infrastructure present that year including rail infrastructure and the City street-grid plan. For context, the current City of Dallas boundaries are shown.

They are merely a collection of carrier routes. Zipcode Mapping is at best an approximation of the carrier routes, and subject to change without notice.National ZipCodes: https://dallasgis.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=0a2fde8aa7404187917488bafcbc77e6

This web map provides a detailed vector basemap for the world symbolized with a light gray, neutral background style with minimal colors, labels, and features that is designed to draw attention to your thematic content. The web map includes vector tile layers that are similar in content and style to the popular Light Gray Canvas map, which is delivered as two layers with raster fused map cache. This map includes a vector tile layer that provides unique capabilities for customization and high-resolution display. The map includes highways, major roads, minor roads, railways, water features, cities, parks, landmarks, building footprints, and administrative boundaries. The layers in this map are built using the same data sources used for the Light Gray Canvas and other Esri basemaps.Use this MapThis map is designed to be used as a basemap for overlaying other layers of information or as a stand-alone reference map. You can add layers to this web map and save as your own map. If you like, you can add this web map to a custom basemap gallery for others in your organization to use in creating web maps. If you would like to add this map as a layer in other maps you are creating, you may use the tile layer item referenced in this map.Customize this MapBecause this map includes a vector tile layer, you can customize the map to change its content and symbology. You are able to turn on and off layers, change symbols for layers, switch to alternate local language (in some areas), and refine the treatment of disputed boundaries. See the Vector Basemap group for other vector web maps. For details on how to customize this map, please refer to these articles on the ArcGIS Online Blog.
