    Variables measured
Black Population, Black Population as Percent of Total Black Population of Texas, Black Population as Percent of Total Population of cities in Texas
    Measurement technique
To measure the rank and respective trends, we initially gathered data from the five most recent American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates. We then analyzed and categorized the data for each of the racial categories identified by the U.S. Census Bureau. Based on the required racial category classification, we calculated the rank. For geographies with no population reported for the chosen race, we did not assign a rank and excluded them from the list. It is possible that a small population exists but was not reported or captured due to limitations or variations in Census data collection and reporting. We ensured that the population estimates used in this dataset pertain exclusively to the identified racial categories and do not rely on any ethnicity classification, unless explicitly required. For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

    • 2015-2019 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates

    Variables / Data Columns

    • Rank by Black Population: This column displays the rank of cities in the Texas by their Black or African American population, using the most recent ACS data available.
    • cities: The cities for which the rank is shown in the previous column.
    • Black Population: The Black population of the cities is shown in this column.
    • % of Total cities Population: This shows what percentage of the total cities population identifies as Black. Please note that the sum of all percentages may not equal one due to rounding of values.
    • % of Total Texas Black Population: This tells us how much of the entire Texas Black population lives in that cities. Please note that the sum of all percentages may not equal one due to rounding of values.
    • 5 Year Rank Trend: TThis column displays the rank trend across the last 5 years.

    Description

The USGS Central Region Energy Team assesses oil and gas resources of the United States. The onshore and State water areas of the United States comprise 71 provinces. Within these provinces, Total Petroleum Systems are defined and Assessment Units are defined and assessed. Each of these provinces is defined geologically, and most province boundaries are defined by major geologic changes. The Bend Arch-Fort Worth Basin Province is located in north central Texas and south western Oklahoma, encompassing all or parts of Archer, Bandera, Baylor, Blanco, Bosque, Brown, Burnet, Callahan Clay, Coleman, Collin, Comanche, Concho, Cooke, Coryell, Dallas, Denton, Eastland, Ellis, Erath, Foard, Gillespie, Grayson, Hardeman, Harmon, Haskell, Hill, Jack, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Know, Lampasas, Llano, Mason, McCulloch, McLennan, Menard, Mills, Montague, Palo Pinto, Parker, Real, Runnels, San Saba, Shackelford, Somervell, Stephens, Tarrant, Taylor, Throckmorton, Tillman, Wichita, Wilbarger, Wise, Young Counties in Texas and Harmon, Jackson and Tillman Counties in Oklahoma. The main population centers within the study area are Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. The main highway, I-20, generally traverses the area from east to west and I-35 traverses the eastern edge of the Province from north to south. The Colorado River, Brazos River and Pease River (RED RIVER) and their tributaries drain the area. For this study the Bend Arch-Fort Worth Province also includes Hardeman Basin.

    Description

Dispersal, establishment, and spread of aquatic invasive species such as the zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) can be influenced by riverine velocities and volumetric flows in invaded lake-stream ecosystems. Zebra mussels, which have a planktonic larval form (veliger), disperse rapidly downstream from a source population. Concentrations, dispersal, and body conditions of zebra mussel veligers were studied under different volumetric flow, or discharge, conditions in a coupled lake-stream ecosystem in northern Texas, USA. Veliger densities in lotic environments were strongly related to population dynamics in upstream lentic source populations. A strong exponential decrease in veliger density was observed through a 28-km downstream study reach. Increased water releases from the source reservoir increased veliger flux and dispersal potential, concomitantly increasing veliger flux and decreasing transit time. However, passage through release gates in the dam and increased turbulence in the river during high-discharge events could negatively affect body condition of veligers, and veliger body condition generally decreased from the source population to the farthest downstream site and was lower for veligers during periods of high discharge. Thus increased discharge appears to reduce the proportion of viable veligers because of increased turbulence-induced mortality. Colonization of distant downstream reservoirs can occur if discharge and propagule pressure are sufficient or if interim habitats are suitable for establishment of in-stream populations.
