TwitterThis paper is a progress report of an effort whose goal is to demonstrate the effectiveness of automated data mining and planning for the daily management of Earth Science missions. Currently, data mining and machine learning technologies are being used by scientists at research labs for validating Earth science models. However, few if any of these advancedtechniques are currently being integrated into daily mission operations. Consequently, there are significant gaps in the knowledge that can be derived from the models and data that are used each day for guiding mission activities. The result can be sub-optimal observation plans, lack of useful data, and wasteful use of resources. Recent advances in data mining, machine learning, and planning make it feasible to migrate these technologies into the daily mission planning cycle. This paper describes the design of a closed loop system for data acquisition, processing, and flight planning that integrates the results of machine learning into the flight planning process.

Abstract This aim of this paper is the acquisition of geographic data from the Foursquare application, using data mining to perform exploratory and spatial analyses of the distribution of tourist attraction and their density distribution in Rio de Janeiro city. Thus, in accordance with the Extraction, Transformation, and Load methodology, three research algorithms were developed using a tree hierarchical structure to collect information for the categories of Museums, Monuments and Landmarks, Historic Sites, Scenic Lookouts, and Trails, in the foursquare database. Quantitative analysis was performed of check-ins per neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro city, and kernel density (hot spot) maps were generated The results presented in this paper show the need for the data filtering process - less than 50% of the mined data were used, and a large part of the density of the Museums, Historic Sites, and Monuments and Landmarks categories is in the center of the city; while the Scenic Lookouts and Trails categories predominate in the south zone. This kind of analysis was shown to be a tool to support the city's tourist management in relation to the spatial localization of these categories, the tourists’ evaluations of the places, and the frequency of the target public.

TwitterProteomic analysis with data-independent acquisition (DIA) approaches represented by the sequential window acquisition of all theoretical fragment ion spectra (SWATH) technique has gained intense interest in recent years because DIA is able to overcome the intrinsic weakness of conventional data-dependent acquisition (DDA) methods and afford higher throughout and reproducibility for proteome-wide quantification. Although the raw mass spectrometry (MS) data quality and the data-mining workflow conceivably influence the throughput, accuracy and consistency of SWATH-based proteomic quantification, there lacks a systematic evaluation and optimization of the acquisition and data-processing parameters for SWATH MS analysis. Herein, we evaluated the impact of major acquisition parameters such as the precursor mass range, isolation window width and accumulation time as well as the data-processing variables including peak extraction criteria and spectra library selection on SWATH performance. Fine tuning these interdependent parameters can further improve the throughput and accuracy of SWATH quantification compared to the original setting adopted in most SWATH proteomic studies. Furthermore, we compared the effectiveness of two widely used peak extraction software PeakView and Spectronaut in discovery of differentially expressed proteins in a biological context. Our work is believed to contribute to a deeper understanding of the critical factors in SWATH MS experiments and help researchers optimize their SWATH parameters and workflows depending on the sample type, available instrument and software.
