    Description

Biological data analysis is the key to new discoveries in disease biology and drug discovery. The rapid proliferation of high-throughput ‘omics’ data has necessitated a need for tools and platforms that allow the researchers to combine and analyse different types of biological data and obtain biologically relevant knowledge. We had previously developed TargetMine, an integrative data analysis platform for target prioritisation and broad-based biological knowledge discovery. Here, we describe the newly modelled biological data types and the enhanced visual and analytical features of TargetMine. These enhancements have included: an enhanced coverage of gene–gene relations, small molecule metabolite to pathway mappings, an improved literature survey feature, and in silico prediction of gene functional associations such as protein–protein interactions and global gene co-expression. We have also described two usage examples on trans-omics data analysis and extraction of gene-disease associations using MeSH term descriptors. These examples have demonstrated how the newer enhancements in TargetMine have contributed to a more expansive coverage of the biological data space and can help interpret genotype–phenotype relations. TargetMine with its auxiliary toolkit is available at https://targetmine.mizuguchilab.org. The TargetMine source code is available at https://github.com/chenyian-nibio/targetmine-gradle.

    Description

The Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT) instrument measures surface mineralogy, targeting the Earth’s arid dust source regions. EMIT is installed on the International Space Station. EMIT uses imaging spectroscopy to take measurements of sunlit regions of interest between 52° N latitude and 52° S latitude. An interactive map showing the regions being investigated, current and forecasted data coverage, and additional data resources can be found on the VSWIR Imaging Spectroscopy Interface for Open Science (VISIONS) EMIT Open Data Portal. In addition to its primary objective described above, EMIT has demonstrated the capacity to characterize methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) point-source emissions by measuring gas absorption features in the shortwave infrared bands. The EMIT Level 2B Methane Enhancement Data (EMITL2BCH4ENH) Version 2 data product is a total vertical column enhancement estimate of methane in parts per million meter (ppm m) based on an adaptive matched filter approach. EMITL2BCH4ENH provides per-pixel methane enhancement data used to identify methane plume complexes, per-pixel methane uncertainty due to sensor noise, and per-pixel methane sensitivity that can be used to remove bias from the enhancement data. The EMITL2BCH4ENH Version 2 data product includes methane enhancement granules for all captured scenes, regardless of methane plume complex identification. Each granule contains three Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG) files at a spatial resolution of 60 meters (m): Methane Enhancement (EMIT_L2B_CH4ENH), Methane Uncertainty (EMIT_L2B_CH4UNCERT), and Methane Sensitivity (EMIT_L2B_CH4SENS). The EMITL2BCH4ENH COG files contain methane enhancement data based primarily on EMITL1BRAD radiance values. Each granule is approximately 75 kilometers (km) by 75 km, nominal at the equator, with some granules at the end of an orbit segment reaching 150 km in length.Known Issues Data acquisition gap: From September 13, 2022, through January 6, 2023, a power issue outside of EMIT caused a pause in operations. Due to this shutdown, no data were acquired during that timeframe.Improvements/Changes from Previous Versions Methane uncertainty and sensitivity variables have been added. For more details on the uncertainty variable, see Section 6 of the Algorithm Theoretical Basis Document (ATBD) and Section 4.2.2 for details on the sensitivity variable. Enhancement, uncertainty, and sensitivity data are now included for all granules, including those without plume complexes. Version 1 of this product only included enhancement data for granules where plumes were present. The matched filter used to produce methane enhancement data has been improved by adjusting the channels used to those that fall within 500-1340 nanometer (nm), 1500-1790 nm, or 1950-2450 nm. More details can be found in Section 4.2.3 of the ATBD.

    Description

In 2012, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) launched a demonstration field experiment, the Mentoring Enhancement Demonstration Program (MEDP) and Evaluation to examine: (1) the use of an "advocacy" role for mentors; and (2) the use of a teaching/information provision role for mentors. The overall goal of MEDP was to develop program models that specified what advocacy and teaching look like in practice and to understand whether encouraging the general practice of advocacy and teaching could improve youth outcomes. The American Institutes for Research (AIR) conducted a rigorous process and outcome evaluation of programs funded by OJJDP in 2012. The evaluation was designed to rigorously assess the effectiveness of programs that agreed to develop and implement enhanced practices incorporating advocacy or teaching roles for mentors, including providing focused prematch and ongoing training to mentors, and providing ongoing support to help mentors carry out the targeted roles.MEDP grantees comprised collaboratives that would offer coordinated implementation of the same set of program enhancements in three or four separate established and qualified mentoring programs located within the same regional area. The MEDP collaboratives varied widely in their geographical locations, their size and experience in mentoring, and the structure of their mentoring programs. The types and structures of mentoring programs also varied across, and sometimes within, collaboratives. All the collaboratives proposed enhancements in the way they would train mentors for their roles, and in the way they would provide ongoing support to the mentors and in some cases the youth that they were matched with. This data collection consists of multiple types of respondents (youth, parents, mentors, and staff) across multiple data collection periods.

This survey looks at a broad arc of scientific and technological developments - some in use now, some still emerging. It concentrates on public views about six developments that are widely discussed among futurists, ethicists and policy advocates. Three are part of the burgeoning array of AI applications: the use of facial recognition technology by police, the use of algorithms by social media companies to find false information on their sites and the development of driverless passenger vehicles.

The other three, often described as types of human enhancements, revolve around developments tied to the convergence of AI, biotechnology, nanotechnology and other fields. They raise the possibility of dramatic changes to human abilities in the future: computer chip implants in the brain to advance people's cognitive skills, gene editing to greatly reduce a baby's risk of developing serious diseases or health conditions, and robotic exoskeletons with a built-in AI system to greatly increase strength for lifting in manual labor jobs.

    Description

GRACEnet (Greenhouse gas Reduction through Agricultural Carbon Enhancement network) is a research program initiated in the early 2000s . Goals are to better quantify greenhouse gas GHG emissions from cropped and grazed soils under current management practices and to identify and further develop improved management practices that will enhance carbon (C) sequestration in soils, decrease GHG emissions, promote sustainability and provide a sound scientific basis for carbon credits and GHG trading programs. This program generates information that is needed by agro-ecosystem modelers, producers, program managers and policy makers. Coordinated multi-location field studies follow standardized protocols to compare net GHG emissions (carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane), C sequestration, crop/forge yields, and broad environmental benefits under different management systems that: Typify existing production practices Maximize C sequestration Minimize net GHG emissions Meet sustainable production and broad environmental benefit goals (including C sequestration, net GHG emissions, water, air and soil quality, etc.) Resources in this dataset:Resource Title: GRACEnet Brochure 2016. Description

The data in this dataset was collected by Yiqi Tang. The initial data came from the Internet, and then through manual data filtering, blurred, distorted and low resolution images were removed. Randomly divide into training and testing sets in a ratio of approximately 4:1. Afterwards, the training and testing sets were subjected to data augmentation such as stretching, inversion, and brightness adjustment. Finally, I used three data processing methods: 1. Gray scale 2. Edge extraction - low threshold 3. Edge extraction - high threshold
