    Description

This dataset includes aggregated weekly data on the percent of emergency department visits and the percent of hospital inpatient admissions due to influenza-like illness (ILI), COVID-19, influenza, RSV, and acute respiratory illness. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) collects data for Emergency Department visits to all 185 acute care hospitals in Illinois. The data are submitted from IDPH to the CDC’s BioSense Platform for access and analysis by health departments via the ESSENCE system.

The CDC National Syndromic Surveillance Program (NSSP) utilizes diagnostic codes and clinical terms to create definitions for diagnosed COVID-19, influenza, RSV, and acute respiratory illness. For more information on diagnostic codes and clinical terms used, visit: https://www.cdc.gov/nssp/php/onboarding-resources/companion-guide-ed-data-respiratory-illness.html

The data is characterized by selected demographic groups including age group and race/ethnicity.

The dataset also includes percent of weekly outpatient visits due to ILI as reported by several outpatient clinics throughout Chicago that participate in CDC’s Influenza-like Illness Surveillance Network (ILINet).

For more information on ESSENCE, see https://www.dph.illinois.gov/data-statistics/syndromic-surveillance

For more information on ILINet, see https://www.cdc.gov/fluview/overview/index.html#cdc_generic_section_3-outpatient-illness-surveillance

All data are provisional and subject to change. Information is updated as additional details are received. At any given time, this dataset reflects data currently known to CDPH. Numbers in this dataset may differ from other public sources.

    Description

NOTE: This dataset has been retired and marked as historical-only. Only Chicago residents are included based on the home ZIP Code as provided by the medical provider. If a ZIP was missing or was not valid, it is displayed as "Unknown". Cases with a positive molecular (PCR) or antigen test are included in this dataset. Cases are counted based on the week the test specimen was collected. For privacy reasons, until a ZIP Code reaches five cumulative cases, both the weekly and cumulative case counts will be blank. Therefore, summing the “Cases - Weekly” column is not a reliable way to determine case totals. Deaths are those that have occurred among cases based on the week of death. For tests, each test is counted once, based on the week the test specimen was collected. Tests performed prior to 3/1/2020 are not included. Test counts include multiple tests for the same person (a change made on 10/29/2020). PCR and antigen tests reported to Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) through electronic lab reporting are included. Electronic lab reporting has taken time to onboard and testing availability has shifted over time, so these counts are likely an underestimate of community infection. The “Percent Tested Positive” columns are calculated by dividing the number of positive tests by the number of total tests . Because of the data limitations for the Tests columns, such as persons being tested multiple times as a requirement for employment, these percentages may vary in either direction from the actual disease prevalence in the ZIP Code. All data are provisional and subject to change. Information is updated as additional details are received. To compare ZIP Codes to Chicago Community Areas, please see http://data.cmap.illinois.gov/opendata/uploads/CKAN/NONCENSUS/ADMINISTRATIVE_POLITICAL_BOUNDARIES/CCAzip.pdf. After over two years of public reporting, the State Profile Report will no longer be produced and distributed after February 2023. The final release was on February 23, 2023. We want to thank everyone who contributed to the design, production, and review of this report and we hope that it provided insight into the data trends throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Data about COVID-19 will continue to be updated at CDC’s COVID Data Tracker. The State Profile Report (SPR) is generated by the Data Strategy and Execution Workgroup in the Joint Coordination Cell, in collaboration with the White House. It is managed by an interagency team with representatives from multiple agencies and offices (including the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the HHS Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, and the Indian Health Service). The SPR provides easily interpretable information on key indicators for each state, down to the county level. It is a weekly snapshot in time that: Focuses on recent outcomes in the last seven days and changes relative to the month prior Provides additional contextual information at the county level for each state, and includes national level information Supports rapid visual interpretation of results with color thresholds

    Description

Effective April 1, 2022, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office no longer takes jurisdiction over hospital, nursing home or hospice COVID-19 deaths unless there is another factor that falls within the Office’s jurisdiction. Data continues to be collected for COVID-19 deaths in Cook County on the Illinois Dept. of Public Health COVID-19 dashboard (https://dph.illinois.gov/covid19/data.html). This contains information about deaths that occurred in Cook County that were under the Medical Examiner’s jurisdiction. Not all deaths that occur in Cook County are reported to the Medical Examiner or fall under the jurisdiction of the Medical Examiner. The Medical Examiner’s Office determines cause and manner of death for those cases that fall under its jurisdiction. Cause of death describes the reason the person died. This dataset includes information from deaths starting in August 2014 to the present, with information updated daily. Changes: December 16, 2022: The Cook County Commissioner District field now reflects the boundaries that went into effect December 5, 2022. September 8, 2023: The Primary Cause field is now a combination of the Primary Cause Line A, Line B, and Line C fields.

    Description

The U.S. Geological Survey Central Midwest Water Science Center completed a report (Over and others, 2023) documenting methods, results, and applications of an updated flood-frequency study for the State of Illinois. The study developed regional regression equations that relate the peak-flow quantiles and the basin characteristics of selected streamgages in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, based on data through water year 2017 (a water year is the period from October 1 to September 30 and is designated by the year in which it ends; for example, water year 2017 was from October 1, 2016, to September 30, 2017). The data provided through this data release are those digital datasets of basin characteristics that have been collected, tested, and ultimately selected for use in regional regression equations. These datasets consist of raster grid files for slope (slope100.zip), calculated from a published digital elevation model (DEM) (Schafer and Sharpe, 2023), soil slope (stats_slope100.zip) subsetted and resampled from Wolock (1997), a soil texture permeability index (texp_indx_rnd.zip) computed using data from Wolock (1997), land cover (nlcd16_22_23_24.zip) adapted from Yang and others (2018), a basin soil wetness measure (drclass1a.zip) computed from U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) (2013), and an urbanization fraction (urbthe2010.zip) computed from Theobald 2010 data (Theobald, 2005). Some basin characteristics are not included in this data release as they are easily derived from StreamStats basin delineations themselves, such as basin drainage area. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Illinois Center for Transportation (ICT) and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), prepared these digital datasets of basin characteristics for use in the Illinois StreamStats application (https://streamstats.usgs.gov/ss/). Two additional shapefiles are provided: a shapefile of the streamgages (IL_StreamStats_Gages.zip) and a shapefile of the associated delineated streamgage drainage basins (IL_StreamStats_DrainageBasins.zip) used in analysis (Over and others, 2023).

    Description

Illinois Public Bodies of Water are defined in 17 Illinois Administrative Code, Chapter I, Section 3704 as all lakes, rivers, streams and waterways which are or were navigable and are open or dedicated to public use including all bayous, sloughs, backwaters and submerged lands connected by water to the main channel or body of water during normal flows or stages. The entire length and surface area of these waters in Illinois are open to the public except to a head of navigation for the following rivers: Sinsiniwa, Galena, Apple, Plum, Des Plaines, Iroquois, Vermilion(Illinois River Basin), Spoon, Sangamon, Sangamon River South Fork, Kaskaskia, Big Muddy, Vermilion (Wabash River Basin), Little Wabash, Saline, and Saline North Fork. A head of navigation limiting public access is also present for the following creeks; Stillman, Henderson, Bay, Macoupin, and Otter. The limiting head of navigation has been mapped for these rivers and creeks using the Public Land Survey System descriptions as listed in 17 IAC Section 3704 Appendix A. The extent of normal flows or stages open to public use are not represented in this dataset or this interactive web map. Additional site-specific data is required to determine the extent of normal flows or stages. Consequently all bayous, sloughs, backwaters and submerged lands connected by water to the main channel or body of water during normal flows or stages have not been mapped within this graphical dataset. The Illinois Public Water extent at the State boundaries are based on USGS 7.5 Minute Quadrangle Maps except for the boundary between Illinois and Kentucky. The Illinois/Kentucky border in this dataset is based on boundary coordinates from Illinois vs. Kentucky No. 106, Original, 500 U.S. 380 (1991) US Supreme Court Case. The final decree was entered on December 2, 1994.

    Description

This dataset contains the weekly estimated influenza risk level for each ZIP Code in Chicago. Estimates are made during flu season, which goes from MMWR week 40 to week 20 of the following year.

The risk level is based on observed level of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI). ILI Activity Level is determined as follows: ILI percentage for each ZIP Code for the week is compared to the mean ILI percentage during the non-influenza months (summer months). Level 1 corresponds to an ILI percentage below the mean, level 2 to an ILI percentage less than one standard deviation (SD) above the mean, level 3 to an ILI percentage more than one, but less than two SDs above mean, and so on, with level 10 corresponding to an ILI percentage more than eight SDs above the mean.

For more information on ESSENCE, which compiles the estimates, see https://www.dph.illinois.gov/data-statistics/syndromic-surveillance

All data are provisional and subject to change. Information is updated as additional details are received. At any given time, this dataset reflects data currently known to CDPH. Numbers in this dataset may differ from other public sources.
