    Description

This is a tiled collection of the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) and is one meter resolution. The 3DEP data holdings serve as the elevation layer of The National Map, and provide foundational elevation information for earth science studies and mapping applications in the United States. Scientists and resource managers use 3DEP data for hydrologic modeling, resource monitoring, mapping and visualization, and many other applications. The elevations in this DEM represent the topographic bare-earth surface. USGS standard one-meter DEMs are produced exclusively from high resolution light detection and ranging (lidar) source data of one-meter or higher resolution. One-meter DEM surfaces are seamless within collection projects, but, not necessarily seamless across projects. The spatial reference used for tiles of the one-meter DEM within the conterminous United States (CONUS) is Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) in units of meters, and in conformance with the North American Datum of 1983 ...

Extracting useful and accurate information from scanned geologic and other earth science maps is a time-consuming and laborious process involving manual human effort. To address this limitation, the USGS partnered with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to run the AI for Critical Mineral Assessment Competition, soliciting innovative solutions for automatically georeferencing and extracting features from maps. The competition opened for registration in August 2022 and concluded in December 2022. Training, validation, and evaluation data from the map georeferencing challenge are provided here, as well as competition details and a baseline solution. The data were derived from published sources and are provided to the public to support continued development of automated georeferencing and feature extraction tools. References for all maps are included with the data.

    Description

This table contains the SCUBA Legacy Catalogs, two comprehensive sets of source catalogs using data at 850 and 450um of the various astronomical objects obtained with the Submillimetre Common User Bolometer Array (SCUBA) on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT). The Fundamental Map Data Set contains data only where superior atmospheric opacity calibration data were available. The Extended Map Data Set contains data regardless of the quality of the opacity calibration. Each data set contains 1.2 degrees x 1.2 degrees maps at locations where data existed in the JCMT archive, imaged using the matrix inversion method. The Fundamental Data Set is composed of 1423 maps at 850um and 1357 maps at 450um. The Extended Data Set is composed of 1547 maps at 850um. Neither data set includes high sensitivity, single-chop SCUBA maps of "cosmological fields" nor solar system objects. Each data set was used to determine a respective object catalog, consisting of objects identified within the respective 850um maps using an automated identification algorithm. The Fundamental and Extended Map Object Catalogs contain 5061 and 6118 objects, respectively. Objects are named based on their respective J2000.0 position of peak 850um intensity. The catalogs provide for each object the respective maximum 850um intensity, estimates of total 850um flux and size, and tentative identifications from the SIMBAD Database. Where possible, the catalogs also provide for each object its maximum 450um intensity and total 450um flux and flux ratios. Since the goal of this project was to make maps and then catalog objects therein, all raw jiggle and scan data from SCUBA available in the JCMT archive were downloaded from the CADC in 2006 May. (Photometry and polarimetry data were ignored.) A full description of the instrumental characteristics of SCUBA was made by Holland et al. (1999MNRAS.303..659H). All maps are available at http://www3.cadc-ccda.hia-iha.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/community/scubalegacy/ This table was created by the HEASARC in December 2010 based on CDS catalog J/ApJS/175/277 files table2.dat and table3.dat. This is a service provided by NASA HEASARC .

    Description

This dataset is a categorical mapping of estimated mean building heights, by Census block group, in shapefile format for the conterminous United States. The data were derived from the NASA Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, which collected “first return” (top of canopy and buildings) radar data at 30-m resolution in February, 2000 aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor. These data were processed here to estimate building heights nationally, and then aggregated to block group boundaries. The block groups were then categorized into six classes, ranging from “Low” to “Very High”, based on the mean and standard deviation breakpoints of the data. The data were evaluated in several ways, to include comparing them to a reference dataset of 85,000 buildings for the city of San Francisco for accuracy assessment and to provide contextual definitions for the categories.

    Description

USGS researchers with the Patterns in the Landscape – Analyses of Cause and Effect (PLACE) project are releasing a collection of high-frequency surface water map composites derived from daily Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) imagery. Using Google Earth Engine, the team developed customized image processing steps and adapted the Dynamic Surface Water Extent (DSWE) to generate surface water map composites in California for 2003-2019 at a 250-m pixel resolution. Daily maps were merged to create 6, 3, 2, and 1 composite(s) per month corresponding to approximately 5-day, 10-day, 15-day, and monthly products, respectively. The resulting maps are available as downloadable files for each year. Each file includes 72, 36, 24, or 12 bands that coincide with the number of maps generated in the 5-day, 10-day, 15-day, and monthly products, respectively. The bands are ordered chronologically, with the first band representing the beginning of the calendar year and the last band representing the end of the year. Each set of maps is labeled according to year and product type. There are 17 GeoTIF (.tif) raster data files for each composite product.

    Description

The Global Landslide hazard map is a gridded dataset of landslide hazard produced at the global scale. Landslides happen around the world and have devastating impacts on people and the built environment. To better understand the spatial and temporal distribution of landslide hazard worldwide, the World Bank and the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) commissioned Arup to undertake a landslide hazard assessment at a global scale. Using a global landslide inventory, landslide susceptibility information provided by NASA, and an innovative machine learning model, our geohazard and risk management experts produced a state-of-the-art quantitative landslide hazard map for the whole world. The dataset comprises gridded maps of estimated annual frequency of significant landslides per square kilometre. Significant landslides are those which are likely to have been reported had they occurred in a populated place; limited information on reported landslide size makes it difficult to tie frequencies to size ranges but broadly speaking would be at least greater than 100 m2. The data provides frequency estimates for each grid cell on land between 60°S and 72°N for landslides triggered by seismicity and rainfall. Applications of this dataset include improved hazard screening based on frequency and severity, consistent national, regional and global scale exposure assessment, estimates of annual expected impact on population and the built environment.
