What is a portrait sitting?A portrait sitting is a moment of interaction between an artist, a sitter (the person who is portrayed) and sometimes others, from which a portrait is typically produced. What is the portrait-sitting database? The portrait-sitting database is a collection of information about portrait sittings, specifically, sittings for British portraits 1900-1960 and, predominantly, portraits in the National Portrait Gallery. What is the portrait-sitting ontology? The portrait-sitting ontology is a formal specification of the objects, concepts and relationships that make up knowledge about portrait sittings. It is the framework, according to which the data in the portrait-sitting database has been structured.Who is behind this project? The portrait-sitting ontology and data are products of my (Dawn Kanter's) PhD research at The Open University. The project is titled Collecting and Connecting Portrait Sittings: A Re-evaluation of Portrait-Sitting Accounts in Enhancing Knowledge and Understanding of British Portraiture 1900-1960.

The Portraits of American Life Study (PALS) is an extensive, national-level panel study focused on religion in the U.S., with a particular focus on capturing ethnic and racial diversity. PALS seeks to understand the impact of religion in everyday life, and ultimately the connections between religious change and other forms of change in individuals and families over the course of their lives and across generations. It includes substantive modules on family relationships, deviance, health, civic participation and volunteering, moral and social attitudes, and race and ethnic issues. It currently includes two waves, collected in 2006 and 2012. This file contains only the respondents who were in both waves (N=1,314).
ARDA Note: The ARDA coded the variable names in a way that is easy to identify across waves. The variable names have stems (e.g., CA23), and the suffix (e.g., W1) will tell you the wave of the corresponding variable. "W1" refers to Wave 1, "06" refers to Wave 1 variables that may not have been in the original Wave 1 dataset, and no suffix means that the variable is a Wave 2 variable. For example, CA23W1 belongs to Wave 1 and CA23 belongs to Wave 2. In all instances, examine the variable description, which contains the wave information (e.g., [Wave 2]) and the full question wording.

The study was designed to create a portrait of domestic violence courts across America, specifically courtroom policies, procedures and goals were examined as described by court employees and prosecutors that work with the domestic violence courts. Geographic information on 338 courts was collected and organized in a national compendium of domestic violence courts. From this compendium a sample of 129 domestic violence courts was surveyed along with 74 prosecutors offices.

The main dataset consists of counts and descriptions of funerary portraits, tombs and burials and their chronology at the archaeological site of Palmyra, Syria. It derives from the Palmyra Portrait Project led by Rubina Raja (Aarhus University, Denmark) between 2012-2020. The project was funded by The Carlsberg Foundation. We are thankful to the following researchers and assistant researchers for the collation of the data: J. V. Jensen, D. K. Johnson, S. Krag, N. B. Kristensen, A. H. Sørensen, and R. R. Thomsen.
It is accompanied by three additional datasets:
Dataset_events: Romanowska, Iza 2020 “Historical events at Palmyra, Syria”, version 1.0.

Abstract This paper takes up the photographic work Lost Angels (2014), by Lee Jefries, which portraits people living on the streets in large urban centers, to think about how the effects of the structure in photographic image constitute a contingent relationship of alterity. Through these portraits of vulnerable people, Jeffries signs ways to summon the look articulated between the desired codification and the regularization of the aesthetic dimension. In this duality, the images are examined based on the possible repercussions of the modes of figuration that trigger a certain visual delight according to the ways in which the presence of people is called upon. We reflect on how documentary photography could offer visual operators in the topics of human portrait and what is its specific designation in these subjects’ exposures in a plastic and conversational perspective of the image.
Household surveys:
Subnational information from different available household surveys of farmers and smallholders in developing and emerging countries.
Household data provides an overview on farmer households livelihoods, decisions, constraints, among other dimensions. One of the main purposes of this suite of data is to provide farmer information disaggregated at different subnational levels, as well as georeferenced information, when available.
The surveys available in this section provide information divided in ten main dimensions: Production, Consumption, Income, Capital, Inputs, Access to markets, Labor, Technology adoption, Infrastructure, and Social.
Currently available is the Data Portrait of Small Family Farms, more will be added.
Data Portrait:
The Data Portrait of Small Family Farms is a project developed by FAO with the objective to set the ground for a standardized definition of smallholders across countries as well as provide consistent measures of inputs, production, sociodemographic characteristics of smallholder farmers across the world. It generates an image on how small family farmers in developing and emerging countries live their lives, putting in numbers the constraints they face, and the choices they make so that policies can be informed by evidence to meet the challenge of agricultural development.
The Data Portrait of Small Family Farms makes use of household surveys developed by national statistical offices in conjunction with the World Bank as part of its Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS).
The Data Portrait of Small Family Farms collected data for 19 countries across the world, and for some of them data was reported for more than one round, resulting in a total of 29 surveys. The following table shows the sources of the data. Country and year available information is also presented. Find the link to the table here
'The United States Geological Survey (USGS) Land Cover Trends field photography collection is a national-scale, ground-reference dataset which initially served as a research tool to aid in Landsat-derived land-use/land-cover (LULC) change analyses and assessments. Between 1999 and 2007, Land Cover Trends scientists collected over 33,000 geographically referenced field photos with associated keywords capturing existing LULC and regional change process taking place. The field photography collection represents the most comprehensive national database of geo-referenced USGS field photography in the United States. In a project funded by the USGS Climate and Land Use Change and Core Science Systems Mission Areas, 13,000 photos distributed across 44 Level III Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ecoregions are currently being disseminated to the public. As the remaining field photographs are geotagged, the online collection will grow to include photos within 40 additional ecoregions.'
