    Description

The Wireless Telecommunications Carriers industry is highly concentrated, with four mobile network operators (MNOs) – EE, O2, Vodafone and Three – dominating the market. This means revenue is largely dictated by the performance of those top four MNOs. Higher consumer and business demand for wireless connectivity over wired telecoms has supported demand in recent years, as it's advancing to become faster and more reliable. However, revenue is expected to edge downwards at a compound annual rate of 6.4% to £13.1 billion over the five years through 2024-25. The shift in consumer preferences towards data-based communication, like Facebook and WhatsApp, over traditional voice calls and SMS, which have traditionally been higher revenue generators, has led to intense competition, which has reduced average revenue per user (ARPU) and regulatory pressures like reduced mobile termination rates. Economic challenges and affordability issues among consumers have further strained revenue as companies adjust their offerings to remain competitive amid these pressures. MNOs have benefitted from heightened demand for post-paid smartphones and data services as technology demands more data, with average monthly data usage booming 21% to 9.9 GB in 2023. Mobile phone usage and consumers seeking data services to use on their smartphones anytime, anywhere, has further boosted demand and customer access has improved, with 92% of premises being accessible by 5G as of November 2024. However, external competition is climbing with the growing popularity of apps and fierce internal competition, contributing to the drop in revenue. Weak consumer confidence, falling average revenue per user (ARPU) and increasing regulation (including cuts in mobile termination rates) have made operating conditions difficult for wireless telecom providers. Still, in 2024-25, revenue is set to climb by 1.1%, driven by greater 5G uptake, although the cost-of-living crisis has forced many people to cut spending and seek cheaper deals, lowering ARPU. Revenue is forecast to climb at a compound annual rate of 1.2% over the five years through 2029-30 to £13.9 billion. Continued growth in demand for data services and declining competition from wired telecommunications will support MNOs. As 5G networks expand further across the UK, demand for telecom services from businesses and consumers alike is slated to swell. The high capital investment required to maintain and expand the network will likely constrain wireless telecom providers' profitability in the short term, but it will improve product offerings in the long term. However, challenges remain; intense competition and market saturation will likely continue to cut into ARPU, constraining revenue growth, while low MTRs and rising regulation are expected to further limit MNOs’ performance.

    Description

The UK Business Intelligence (BI) market is experiencing robust growth, driven by increasing data volumes, the need for improved decision-making, and the adoption of cloud-based BI solutions. The market's expansion is fueled by several key factors. Firstly, the burgeoning digital economy across various sectors, including BFSI, retail, and manufacturing, necessitates sophisticated data analytics capabilities for competitive advantage. Secondly, the increasing availability of affordable and scalable cloud-based BI platforms is democratizing access to advanced analytics, even for smaller businesses. This contrasts with the previous landscape dominated by expensive on-premise solutions. Furthermore, the growing emphasis on data-driven decision-making across all levels of organizations contributes significantly to market growth. Finally, government initiatives promoting digital transformation and data analytics further stimulate demand for BI solutions within the UK. However, the market also faces certain challenges. Data security and privacy concerns remain a significant restraint, especially with the growing regulatory scrutiny around data handling. Integration complexities with existing IT infrastructure can also hinder adoption. Despite these challenges, the long-term outlook for the UK BI market remains positive. The continued growth of data generation across industries, coupled with increasing awareness of the value of data-driven insights, suggests that the market will maintain a healthy CAGR, surpassing previous years' growth trajectory. The market segmentation reveals significant opportunities in the large-scale organizational segment and within the BFSI and IT & Telecom sectors, indicating lucrative potential for BI vendors focusing on these specific areas. The UK's strong digital infrastructure and a skilled workforce also contribute to the positive market forecast. Recent developments include: December 2022: Snowflake, a data cloud startup, has announced Snowflake's wide availability on Microsoft Azure in the United Kingdom, owing to increasing customer demand for local data residency in both the commercial and public sectors in the United Kingdom. Snowflake enables organizations in various industries to deploy data and analytical workloads to meet their mission-critical requirements. With actual multi-cloud availability across three major public clouds, businesses may deploy Snowflake's unique data capabilities for workloads, including region-to-region and cross-cloud data replication, across their preferred cloud service providers., August 2022: Pyramid Analytics (Pyramid), a pioneering provider of decision intelligence platforms, announced the establishment of a UK Public Sector Practice. The new division will offer the transformative power of augmented analytics to government departments, agencies, and bodies across the UK. AI and machine learning-enabled decision intelligence help revolutionize the delivery of vital public services such as healthcare, electricity, and transportation in Europe's largest public sector market.. Key drivers for this market are: Growing adoption of IoT-enabled technologies and Advanced Analytics tools in the UK, Migration to the cloud has enabled SME's to leverage data to support their decision-making process. Potential restraints include: Growing adoption of IoT-enabled technologies and Advanced Analytics tools in the UK, Migration to the cloud has enabled SME's to leverage data to support their decision-making process. This dataset covers vocational qualifications starting 2012 to present for England.

The dataset is updated every quarter. Data for previous quarters may be revised to insert late data or to correct an error. Updates also reflect where qualifications were re-categorised to a different type, level, sector subject area or awarding organisation. Where a quarterly update includes revisions to data for previous quarters, a table of revisions is published in the vocational and other qualifications quarterly release

In the dataset, the number of certificates issued are rounded to the nearest 5 and values less than 5 appear as ‘Fewer than 5’ to preserve confidentiality (and a 0 represents no certificates).

Where a qualification has been owned by more than one awarding organisation at different points in time, a separate row is given for each organisation.

Background information and key headlines for every quarter are published in in the vocational and other qualifications quarterly release.
