State and territorial executive orders, administrative orders, resolutions, and proclamations are collected from government websites and cataloged and coded using Microsoft Excel by one coder with one or more additional coders conducting quality assurance.

Data were collected to determine when individuals in states and territories were subject to executive orders, administrative orders, resolutions, and proclamations for COVID-19 that require or recommend people stay in their homes. Data consists exclusively of state and territorial orders, many of which apply to specific counties within their respective state or territory; therefore, data is broken down to the county level.

These data are derived from the publicly available state and territorial executive orders, administrative orders, resolutions, and proclamations (“orders”) for COVID-19 that expressly require or recommend individuals stay at home found by the CDC, COVID-19 Community Intervention and At-Risk Task Force, Monitoring and Evaluation Team & CDC, Center for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support, Public Health Law Program from March 15, 2020 through August 15, 2021. These data will be updated as new orders are collected. Any orders not available through publicly accessible websites are not included in these data. Only official copies of the documents or, where official copies were unavailable, official press releases from government websites describing requirements were coded; news media reports on restrictions were excluded. Recommendations not included in an order are not included in these data. These data do not include mandatory business closures, curfews, or limitations on public or private gatherings. These data do not necessarily represent an official position of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The primary legal divisions of most states are termed counties. In Louisiana, these divisions are known as parishes. The Religious Characteristics of States Dataset (RCS) was created to fulfill the unmet need for a dataset on the religious dimensions of countries of the world, with the state-year as the unit of observation. The third phase, Chief Executives' Religions, provides data on religious affiliations of countries' 'chief executives,' i.e., their presidents, prime ministers, or other heads of state/government exercising largely real, not ceremonial, political power. The dataset, like others in the RCS data project, is designed expressly for easy merger with datasets of the Correlates of War and Polity projects, datasets by the United Nations, the Religion And State datasets by Jonathan Fox, and the ARDA national profiles.

Northeastern United States State Boundary data are intended for geographic display of state boundaries at statewide and regional levels. Use it to map and label states on a map. These data are derived from Northeastern United States Political Boundary Master layer. This information should be displayed and analyzed at scales appropriate for 1:24,000-scale data. The State of Connecticut, Department of Environmental Protection (CTDEP) assembled this regional data layer using data from other states in order to create a single, seamless representation of political boundaries within the vicinity of Connecticut that could be easily incorporated into mapping applications as background information. More accurate and up-to-date information may be available from individual State government Geographic Information System (GIS) offices. "Coal Fields of the Conterminous United States" is a digital representation of James Trumbull's "Coal Fields of the United States" (sheet 1, 1960), which is an adaptation of previous maps by Averitt (1942) and Campbell(1908). It is intended to be the first in a series of open file reports that will eventually result in an I-series map that conforms to the U.S. Geological Survey mapping standards. For this edition, coal boundaries were digitized from Trumbull and plotted to represent as closely as possible the original map. In addition, the Gulf Province was updated using generalized boundaries of coal bearing formations digitized from various state geological maps.

The tobacco disparities dashboard data utilized the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data to measure cigarette smoking disparities by age, disability, education, employment, income, mental health status, race and ethnicity, sex, and urban-rural status. The disparity value is the relative difference in the cigarette smoking prevalence among adults 18 and older in a focus group divided by the cigarette smoking prevalence among adults 18 and older in a reference group. A disparity value above 1 indicates that adults in the focus group smoke cigarettes at a higher rate, as reflected by the disparity value, compared with the rate among adults in the reference group who smoke cigarettes. A disparity value below 1 indicates that adults in the focus group smoke cigarettes at a lower rate, as reflected by the disparity value, compared with the rate among adults in the reference group who smoke cigarettes. A disparity value of 1 means there is no relative difference in the rate of adults who smoke cigarettes for the two groups compared.

All states (including the District of Columbia) are required to provide data to The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on a range of Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) indicators related to key application, eligibility, enrollment and call center processes.
