Historical Employment Statistics 1990 - current. The Current Employment Statistics (CES) more information program provides the most current estimates of nonfarm employment, hours, and earnings data by industry (place of work) for the nation as a whole, all states, and most major metropolitan areas. The CES survey is a federal-state cooperative endeavor in which states develop state and sub-state data using concepts, definitions, and technical procedures prescribed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Estimates produced by the CES program include both full- and part-time jobs. Excluded are self-employment, as well as agricultural and domestic positions. In Connecticut, more than 4,000 employers are surveyed each month to determine the number of the jobs in the State. The 13 Weather Service (NWS) River Forecast Centers (RFC) produce Quantitative Precipitation Estimates (QPE) for their individual RFC areas. The RFCs produce the data using a multi-sensor approach utilizing NWS 88D radar estimates of precipitation, automated and manual precipitation gauges and satellite estimates of precipitation. These QPEs are used as input into their hydrologic models to produce NWS river forecasts and guidance products. The QPEs from each RFC are combined into a single mosaic to create a QPE product that covers the lower 48 states, Alaska and Puerto Rico. These QPE 's measuring units are in inches. The data are on an approximate 4km x 4km grid cell scale. The individual hourly data products (labeled Since 12Z Observed and those labeled Last X hours) contain data for the labeled time frame. These products are updated every hour to incorporate the most recent data. The individual daily data products (Today's Analysis Observed, those labeled Last X Days Observed, and those labeled X To Date Observed.) represent a 24 hour total ending at 12UTC on the indicated date. These 24-hour data are then summed together to produce multi-day precipitation totals. Normal precipitation data are also produced for the Today's Analysis Observed and multi-day summations of 7 days or greater using data from the PRISM Climate Group. Percent of normal and departure from normal comparisons are also available by comparing the QPE data with the PRISM normal data. The daily data may be updated several times between 12UTC and 21UTC each day as updated data becomes available.Link to graphical web page: https://water.weather.gov/precip/index.phpLink to data download (Advanced Hydrologic Predictive Services (AHPS) Precipitation Downloads): https://water.weather.gov/precip/download.phpLinks to metadata:ObservedNormalDeparture from NormalPercent of Normal PrecipitationQuestions/Concerns about the service, please contact the DISS GIS teamTime Information:This service is not time enabled

Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Data - 2020 year to date (Updated thru 04/25/2020)

This map contain Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims data, from the United State Department of Labor, Employment & Training Administration, starting on 01/01/2020 and updated weekly. These data are used in current economic analysis of unemployment trends in the nation, and in each state.

Initial claims is a measure of emerging unemployment. It counts the number of new persons claiming unemployment benefits and it is released after one week.

Continued claims is a measure of the total number of persons claiming unemployment benefits, and it is released one week later than the initial claims.

The data is organized by state, with the following attributes (as defined by the United State Department of Labor) repeated for each week
    • Week/date when claims were filed
    • Number of initial claims
    • Week/date reflected in the data week
    • Number of continued claims
    • Total covered employment
    • Insured unemployment rate
The latest information on unemployment insurance claims can be found here.

    TECHNICAL NOTES
These data represent the weekly unemployment insurance (UI) claims reported by each state's unemployment insurance program offices. These claims may be used for monitoring workload volume, assessing state program operations and for assessing labor market conditions. States initially report claims directly taken by the state liable for the benefit payments, regardless of where the claimant who filed the claim resided. These are the basis for the advance initial claims and continued claims reported each week. These data come from ETA 538, Advance Weekly Initial and Continued Claims Report. The following week initial claims and continued claims are revised based on a second reporting by states that reflect the claimants by state of residence. These data come from the ETA 539, Weekly Claims and Extended Benefits Trigger Data Report.

    A. Initial Claims
An initial claim is a claim filed by an unemployed individual after a separation from an employer. The claimant requests a determination of basic eligibility for the UI program. When an initial claim is filed with a state, certain programmatic activities take place and these result in activity counts including the count of initial claims. The count of U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance is a leading economic indicator because it is an indication of emerging labor market conditions in the country. However, these are weekly administrative data which are difficult to seasonally adjust, making the series subject to some volatility.

    B. Continued Weeks Claimed
A person who has already filed an initial claim and who has experienced a week of unemployment then files a continued claim to claim benefits for that week of unemployment. Continued claims are also referred to as insured unemployment. The count of U.S. continued weeks claimed is also a good indicator of labor market conditions. Continued claims reflect the current number of insured unemployed workers filing for UI benefits in the nation. While continued claims are not a leading indicator (they roughly coincide with economic cycles at their peaks and lag at cycle troughs), they provide confirming evidence of the direction of the U.S. economy

    C. Seasonal Adjustments and Annual Revisions
Over the course of a year, the weekly changes in the levels of initial claims and continued claims undergo regularly occurring fluctuations. These fluctuations may result from seasonal changes in weather, major holidays, the opening and closing of schools, or other similar events. Because these seasonal events follow a more or less regular pattern each year, their influence on the level of a series can be tempered by adjusting for regular seasonal variation. These adjustments make trend and cycle developments easier to spot. At the beginning of each calendar year, the Bureau of Labor Statistics provides the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) with a set of seasonal factors to apply to the unadjusted data during that year. Concurrent with the implementation and release of the new seasonal factors, ETA incorporates revisions to the UI claims historical series caused by updates to the unadjusted data.

The Ocean Data Inventory database is an inventory of all of the oceanographic time series data held by the Ocean Science Division at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. The data archive includes about 5800 current meter and acoustic doppler time series, 4500 coastal temperature time series from thermographs, as well as a small number (200) of tide gauges. Many of the current meters also have temperature and salinity sensors. The area for which there are data is roughly defined as the North Atlantic and Arctic from 30° - 82° N, although there are some minor amounts of data from other parts of the world. The time period is from 1960 to present. The database is updated on a regular basis.

    Description

To provide estimates of employment, unemployment, and other characteristics of the general labor force, of the population as a whole, and of various subgroups of the population. Monthly labor force data for the country are used by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to determine the distribution of funds under the Job Training Partnership Act. These data are collected through combined computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) and computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI). In addition to the labor force data, the CPS basic funding provides annual data on work experience, income, and migration from the March Annual Demographic Supplement and on school enrollment of the population from the October Supplement. Other supplements, some of which are sponsored by other agencies, are conducted biennially or intermittently.
