Looking back 45 years or so, progress against poverty in India has been highly uneven over time and space. It took 20 years for the national poverty rate to fall below—and stay below—its value in the early 1950s. And trend rates of poverty reduction have differed appreciably between states. This research project aimed to understand what influence economy-wide and sectoral factors have played in the evolution of poverty measures for India since the 1950s, and to draw lessons for the future. This database contains detailed statistics on a wide range of topics in India. The data are presented at the state level and at the all-India level separately. The database uses published information to construct comprehensive series in six subject blocks. Period coverage is roughly from 1950 to 1994. The database contains 30 spreadsheets and 89 text files (ASCII) that are grouped into the six subject blocks. The formats and sizes of the 30 spreadsheets vary considerably. The list of variables included: . Expenditures (distribution) . National Accounts . Prices Wages . Population . Rainfall

taking advantage of published data on life-history traits and short-term information on fishery parameters from 3132 records for 644 fish stocks along the coast of india, we calculated resilience (r) and vulnerability (v). further, we developed an index of resilience and vulnerability (irv) for 133 species of tropical finfishes, crustaceans, and molluscs. using 7 resilience and 6 vulnerability attributes, two-dimensional scatter plots of the resilience and vulnerability scores were generated and the euclidean distance and angle from the origin to each point were calculated to determine irv and the effect of fishing on fish species. by ranking the species, the top 10 highly resilient, highly vulnerable, and high-risk species (low irv) were identified. while small-sized species with fast growth rate and low trophic level were among the highly resilient species, large predatory species such as sharks and barracudas were among the highly vulnerable and high-risk species. more than 100 of the 133 species were resilient-yet-vulnerable, and most crustaceans showed high resilience. differences in irv scores among species within the same family were discernible, indicating the differences in the biological characteristics and response to fishing. sensitivity analysis indicated that an abridged irv with 6 attributes works similar to 13 attributes and can be used in data-deficient situations. comparison of r and v of irv with other assessments showed different results because of divergences in the objectives, number and types of attributes, and thresholds used. these assessments do not convey the same information and therefore great care must be taken for reproducing these frameworks to other fisheries. the results of irv analysis can be useful for stock assessments and in developing effective management measures in combination with other complementary information.

India Mean Drought Index data was reported at 0.795 NA in 2021. This records a decrease from the previous number of 1.074 NA for 2020. India Mean Drought Index data is updated yearly, averaging -0.184 NA from Dec 1960 (Median) to 2021, with 62 observations. The data reached an all-time high of 1.755 NA in 2019 and a record low of -2.312 NA in 1972. India Mean Drought Index data remains active status in CEIC and is reported by World Bank. The data is categorized under Global Database’s India – Table IN.World Bank.WDI: Environmental: Climate Risk. The SPEI fulfills the requirements of a drought index since its multi-scalar character enables it to be used by different scientific disciplines to detect, monitor, and analyze droughts. Like the sc-PDSI and the SPI, the SPEI can measure drought severity according to its intensity and duration, and can identify the onset and end of drought episodes. The SPEI allows comparison of drought severity through time and space, since it can be calculated over a wide range of climates, as can the SPI.;Global SPEI database (SPEIbase). https://spei.csic.es/database.html;;

We complied district- and country-level crop area and production data for India from 1947 to 2014. Country level data covering 31 crops for 1947 to 1960 were obtained from a combination of Indian Statistical Abstracts (Statistical abstract, India, 1951-1961) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Statistical Yearbooks (FAO, 1949-1962). For 1961 to 2014, data covering 80 crops from FAOSTAT (2017) were used. District level data were compiled from (i) the India Agriculture and Climate (IAC) data set, which covers 20 crops for 1956 to 1987 (Sanghi et al., 1998) and (ii) the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), which covers 24 crops for 19 states for the period from 1966 to 2011 (ICRISAT, 2013).
