    Description

This layer serves as the authoritative geographic data source for California's K-12 public school locations during the 2024-25 academic year. Schools are mapped as point locations and assigned coordinates based on the physical address of the school facility. The school records are enriched with additional demographic and performance variables from the California Department of Education's data collections. These data elements can be visualized and examined geographically to uncover patterns, solve problems and inform education policy decisions.

The schools in this file represent a subset of all records contained in the CDE's public school directory database. This subset is restricted to TK-12 public schools that were open in October 2024 to coincide with the official 2024-25 student enrollment counts collected on Fall Census Day in 2024 (first Wednesday in October). This layer also excludes nonpublic nonsectarian schools and district office schools.

The CDE's California School Directory provides school location other basic school characteristics found in the layer's attribute table. The school enrollment, demographic and program data are collected by the CDE through the California Longitudinal Achievement System (CALPADS) and can be accessed as publicly downloadable files from the Data & Statistics web page on the CDE website.

Schools are assigned X, Y coordinates using a quality controlled geocoding and validation process to optimize positional accuracy. Most schools are mapped to the school structure or centroid of the school property parcel and are individually verified using aerial imagery or assessor's parcels databases. Schools are assigned various geographic area values based on their mapped locations including state and federal legislative district identifiers and National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) locale codes.

    Description

This point datalayer shows the locations of schools in Massachusetts. Schools appearing in this layer are those attended by students in pre-kindergarten through high school. Categories of schools include public, private, charter, collaborative programs, and approved special education. This data was originally developed by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) GIS Program based on database information provided by the Massachusetts Department of Education (DOE). The update published on April 17th, 2009 was based on listings MassGIS obtained from the DOE as of February 9th, 2009. The layer is stored in ArcSDE and distributed as SCHOOLS_PT. Only schools located in Massachusetts are included in this layer. The DOE also provides a listing of out-of-state schools open to Massachusetts' residents, particularly for those with special learning requirements. Please see http://profiles.doe.mass.edu/outofstate.asp for details. Updated September 2018.

    Description

The National Center for Education Statistics’ (NCES) Education Demographic and Geographic Estimate (EDGE) program develops annually updated school district boundary composite files that include public elementary, secondary, and unified school district boundaries clipped to the U.S. shoreline. School districts are special-purpose governments and administrative units designed by state and local officials to provide public education for local residents. District boundaries are collected for NCES by the U.S. Census Bureau to develop demographic estimates and to support educational research and program administration. The NCES Common Core of Data (CCD) program is an annual collection of basic administrative characteristics for all public schools, school districts, and state education agencies in the United States. These characteristics are reported by state education officials and include directory information, number of students, number of teachers, grade span, and other conditions. The administrative attributes in this layer were developed from the 2021-2022 CCD collection. For more information about NCES school district boundaries, see: https://nces.ed.gov/programs/edge/Geographic/DistrictBoundaries. For more information about CCD school district attributes, see: https://nces.ed.gov/ccd/files.asp. Notes: -1 or MIndicates that the data are missing. -2 or N Indicates that the data are not applicable. -9 Indicates that the data do not meet NCES data quality standards. All information contained in this file is in the public domain. Data users are advised to review NCES program documentation and feature class metadata to understand the limitations and appropriate use of these data.

    Description

SCHOOL PROFICIENCY INDEXSummaryThe school proficiency index uses school-level data on the performance of 4th grade students on state exams to describe which neighborhoods have high-performing elementary schools nearby and which are near lower performing elementary schools. The school proficiency index is a function of the percent of 4th grade students proficient in reading (r) and math (m) on state test scores for up to three schools (i=1,2,3) within 1.5 miles of the block-group centroid. S denotes 4th grade school enrollment:Elementary schools are linked with block-groups based on a geographic mapping of attendance area zones from School Attendance Boundary Information System (SABINS), where available, or within-district proximity matches of up to the three-closest schools within 1.5 miles. In cases with multiple school matches, an enrollment-weighted score is calculated following the equation above. Please note that in this version of the data (AFFHT0004), there is no school proficiency data for jurisdictions in Kansas, West Virginia, and Puerto Rico because no data was reported for jurisdictions in these states in the Great Schools 2013-14 dataset. InterpretationValues are percentile ranked and range from 0 to 100. The higher the score, the higher the school system quality is in a neighborhood. Data Source: Great Schools (proficiency data, 2015-16); Common Core of Data (4th grade school addresses and enrollment, 2015-16); Maponics (attendance boundaries, 2016).Related AFFH-T Local Government, PHA and State Tables/Maps: Table 12; Map 7.

    Description

This dataset attempts to represent the point locations of every educational program in the state of Minnesota that is currently operational and reporting to the Minnesota Department of Education. It can be used to identify schools, various individual school programs, school districts (by office location), colleges, and libraries, among other programs. Please note that not all school programs are statutorily required to report, and many types of programs can be reported at any time of the year, so this dataset is by nature an incomplete snapshot in time.

Maintenance of these locations is a result of an ongoing project to identify current school program locations where Food and Nutrition Services Office (FNS) programs are utilized. The FNS Office is in the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). GIS staff at MDE maintain the dataset using school program and physical addresses provided by local education authorities (LEAs) for an MDE database called "MDE ORG". MDE GIS staff track weekly changes to program locations, along with comprehensive reviews each summer. All records have been reviewed for accuracy or edited at least once since January 1, 2020.

Note that there may remain errors due to the number of program locations and inconsistency in reporting from LEAs and other organizations. Some organization types (such as colleges and treatment programs) are not subject to annual reporting requirements, so various records included in this file may in fact be inactive or inaccurately located.

Note that multiple programs may occur at the same location and are represented as separate records. For example, an elementary and secondary school may be in the same building, but each has a separate record in the data layer. Users may leverage the "CLASS" and "ORGTYPE" attributes to filter and sort records according to their needs. In general, records at the same physical address will be located at the same coordinates.

This data is also available in CSV format. For that format only, OBJECTID and Shape columns are removed, and the Shape column is replaced by Latitude and Longitude columns.

    Description

This layer serves as the authoritative geographic data source for California's K-12 public school locations during the 2023-24 academic year. This subset is restricted to K-12 public schools that were open in October 2023 to coincide with the official 2023-24 student enrollment counts collected on Fall Census Day in 2023 (first Wednesday in October).

    Description

The schools, districts, and other educational institutions in the Detroit Educational Institutions datasets were identified from the State of Michigan Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI) Educational Entity Master (EEM) database. Schools of all statuses (Open - Active; Open - Pending; Open - Inactive; Open - Under construction/remodeling; Open - Vacant/empty; Closed – Pending; Closed) are included in the dataset to provide access to information about schools that currently and previously operated in Detroit. Educational institutions with a mailing address in Detroit but a physical location outside the City are not included in this dataset. Each record in the dataset represents an educational entity, which may be a school, a district, or other entity directly associated with an educational institution. The word, "entity" is used in field (i.e., column) names and descriptions when a field is applicable to multiple types units associated with an educational entity (e.g., if applicable to schools, districts, and other facilities).Link to metadata: https://cepi.state.mi.us/eem/Documents/ColumnDescriptions.pdf
