The BC Data Catalogue is the place to find B.C. Government data, applications and web services. Government ministries and many broader public sector agencies publish their data resources in the Catalogue. This data can be used to make informed decisions and create opportunities for the benefit of all British Columbians.
Where we live may determine our vulnerability to earthquakes. In this lesson, students will examine earthquake occurrence and develop an understanding of earthquake activity in British Columbia. They will learn how to use ArcGIS Online and examine data from the DataBC Data Catalogue. This Web Map displays the 'Earth's Tectonic Plates' map service, significant Earthquake data showing the latest world earthquakes in the last 90 days, as well as DataBC map services on Tsunami Zones and Geological Faults in BC.Lesson: The lesson for this Web Map can be found here: Investigate Earthquakes in BCContent Source(s): Latest Earthquakes RSS Feed, United States Geologic Service (USGS)This data was taken November 2013 from http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/catalogs/Earth's Tectonic Plates map service, Esri CanadaInformation on the content of this map service can be found here.Tsunami Notification Zones for BC map service, DataBCInformation on the content of this map service can be found here.Geologic Faults for BC map service, DataBCInformation on the content of this map service can be found here.Coordinate System: Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere (WKID 102100) Publication Date: November, 2013 Update Frequency: As RequiredWeb Map created by Esri Canada © 2013.
The BC Address Geocoder is a REST API that can used to resolve the physical locations of addresses and place names in British Columbia (i.e., their latitude and longitude). It also provides additional capability, such as correcting and standardizing civic and non-civic addresses, reverse geocoding addresses within areas of interest, locating intersections and identifying parcels associated with specific addresses. For more information please see the glossary and the developer guide. The API is governed by these terms of use, with the exception of the parcels API resource (see note below). Note: the parcels API resource is restricted to B.C. government ministries use only. Ministries should contact DataBC to request an API key.

This tabular dataset is the result of an analysis supporting the 'Status of Ground-Level Ozone in B.C.' indicator produced by Environmental Reporting BC. The results contain the Canadian Ambient Air Quality Standards (CAAQS) metrics for ozone for air quality monitoring stations and air zones in B.C. It contains results for the reporting periods 2011-2013, 2014-2016, 2015-2017, 2016-2018, 2018-2020, and 2019-2021. The analysis uses the following source datasets: - Air Quality Monitoring: Verified Hourly Data - Air Quality Monitoring Station metadata - British Columbia Air Zones The methods and R code for reproducing this indicator summary data is available on GitHub.
CHANGE NOTICE: Effective June 3, 2021 DataBC has updated the service urls for all public BC Geographic Warehouse (BCGW) feature layer items in ArcGIS Online (INCLUDING THIS ITEM!). This will require ACTION on the part of all ArcGIS Online web map authors to update any references to this layer's service url in their ArcGIS Online web maps or web applications. To avoid errors, updates must be done prior to November 30, 2021. For more information please visit: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/data/geographic-data-services/web-based-mapping/agolPurpose: The primary use of this data is to provide information about Indigenous Owned Businesses identified at specific civic address locations in B.C. Notes: The BC Indigenous Business Listings dataset offers a brief summary of Indigenous businesses operating in the province. For each business listed in the dataset, information including the Indigenous owner(s) of the company, location, links to websites as well as primary contact information including email addresses and phone numbers is provided where available. This information is intended to facilitate connections between business owners and consumers, investors, and industry. It is also meant to support an understanding of ownership trends among Indigenous businesses.
To add or update your Indigenous-owned business, please visit the BC Indigenous Business & Investment Council. Table Comments: GSR_INDIGENOUS_BUSINESSES_SV is a spatially enabled layer comprising a brief summary of INDIGENOUS Businesses operating in the province. Purpose: To provide a visual index for the first nations in British Columbia. This point dataset shows the approximate locations of each First Nations main community.Notes: This spatial dataset contains the approximate locations of First Nations in British Columbia. Locations are based on the location of the main community, as obtained from Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC). This data includes 6 Yukon or NWT bands that have parts of their traditional territories in B.C. and have been accepted into the BC treaty process. This is a multipoint feature. LIMITATONS: Although every attempt has been made to ensure that this data is accurate and complete, some First Nations may be missing or inaccurately positioned. Purpose: The Tsunami Notification Zone classifications are used to differentiate the notification areas along the coast of BC. These Zones are used to add BC specific information to tsunami alerts issued from West Coast Alaska Tsunami Warning Center. BC tsunami alerts are disseminated via the Provincial Emergency Notification System (PENS) which encompasses automated phone calls to key stakeholders, faxes, email distribution and updates on the emergencyinfobc.gov.bc.ca website as well as Environment Canada's WeatherOffice, WeatherRadio and MediaWeb services. Each zone has a corresponding level of general risk associated with it, based on a suite of potential tsunami scenarios, which allows emergency managers to estimate the level of risk in each zone.Notes: The Tsunami Notification Zone classifications are used to differentiate the notification areas along the coast of BC.
